2018 Winter Olympics (Pyeongchang)

Great night/morning for the norwegians! Aksel!!!

The biathletes still can't shoot, though.

I don't think Tiril is THAT bad...

Hilarious! Hahahaha!
She's so fecking cute.... i would actually let her have me. Twice!

I just had to check that :D She's been living in Germany since 2002 though (half her life) and he sacrificed any standard of living he enjoyed previously and moved to Chemnitz in 2014.
(It's funny cos it's tru :D )

Laura Dahlmeier grabs another medal, bronze this time. Surprise winner with 22 yo Hanna Öberg from Sweden, she was so overwhelmed :)

Just read something that of the 117 olympic winter games medals the Dutch have, 111 are from speed skating:eek::lol: Mental!

Yes!
Fourcade missed 2 on last shooting!
Maybe both Bø brothers can get medal!

Would be amazing.

That Biathlon is crazy, Fourcade and Bø with two misses in their last shooting.

An Austrian managed 0 misses now, that's more or less a guaranteed medal.

Hope Johannes wins, but there are a couple who haven't missed, that will be dangerous.

She should start having snakes at the shooting range during competitions as well! Or men in sado gear close by! :D

What a 20k by JTB, though! He still couldn't shoot, but with skiing like that, he didn't have to!

To everyone's suprise, Germany wins the luge team relays ;)

When you Germans dress up in tight rubber suits, it's best just to leave you to it

Any chance of us Noggies catching you as far as gold medals are concerned, or have you just gotten started?

Not to be a hater but... these winter olympics seem so pointless to me. The summer ones are the real deal. So many nations don't even compete and who cares what someone wins

The winter nations obviously do care:lol:
Really an odd view, some countries are simply more winter sports aligned due to their geographical position, some aren't and therefore show less interest - which is understandable but shouldn't take anything away from the games.

I know. I'm just being silly. Just personally growing up I always saw summer as the real deal and winter as the...secondary one.

You're not completely wrong. More people take part in - and care about - the summer olympics. However, even those games have a lot of events that are traditionally confined to smaller parts of the world. Dressage? Track cycling? Sailing? Not likely to face stiff competition from the Kenyans any time soon.

Athletics - running in particular - is probably the purest and most democratic sport in the world. After that, it's a case of geography and money.

Like us with the summer olympics, mainly cause we're irrellevant there.
I don't watch anything during summer olympics, and find it really boring.

Alot more entertaining watching someone go down a mountain in over 100km/h, while driving zig-zag, than someone running 100m really fast.
Same with those jumping over 130m on skiis (don't think the flying is in the olympics?). Or the best of them all, biathlon, skiing and shooting - great entertainment! Especially compared to someone running really fast and jump into sand

The snowboard cross was amazing. Like SSX Tricky meets Destruction Derby.

Man, I still remember in the early days of the V-style, before we had gotten used to it, and Noriaki Kasai flew down the hills with his head a foot lower than his skis. Looked like a suicide attempt. Downhill alpine skiing needs no justification. You've got to have balls of steel to do that.

However, I can somehow understand the lack of appreciation of cross-country skiing. When Klæbo runs uphill, it looks similar to a scuba diver attempting a run with his fins still attached. At times, it looks a bit silly.

What these games have taught us, though, is that the winter olympics should be held in Europe. Always. Imagine 50.000 beer-drinking Germans during the biathlon events, 100.000 cheering the cross-country skiers in Holmenkollen, Lillehammer or Falun or another 40.000 crazy Poles celebrating ski jumps in Zakopane.

When you Germans dress up in tight rubber suits, it's best just to leave you to it

Any chance of us Noggies catching you as far as gold medals are concerned, or have you just gotten started?
Not sure, Biathlon could still provide for both of us... and you'll always win on gold per capita :D

I think the winter games are just has important as summer games, they do just has much training , spend years trainings for each games.
Why are the Summer games the real deal, winter sports are every bit has good , in some cases harder than some summers games sports.

Wow, I just saw that we're only done with 39 out of 102 competitions so far

USA and Canada say hello.

I don't mind the odd untraditional host but they are starting to take the piss now. The cities you are mentioning are getting priced out. Sochi, Pyeongchang and Beijing hosting three winter olympics in a row says it all really. It's all about the money. IOC need a serious revamp of the whole organisation or else they'll just suck the life out of Olympic brand.

Sad state of affairs for international sport in general. Spot the difference:

Just watched it. Absolutely brilliant and probably the best event I've watched so far.
Just watched the highlights myself, i kept saying “Woahhh!” everytime they went over that huge jump and stacked it, haha. Great sport.

Yeah, thought about including Canada and USA here (enjoyed both Vancouver and Salt Lake City), but then I remembered Thunder Bay '95 and the Pyeongchang-ish atmosphere. As for the hosting process, you're spot on. Things really need to change. But, of course, we're a pretty hypocritical bunch - celebrating successes and elevating the olympics as the holy grail, while turning our noses up at the very idea of hosting it ourselves. With our history, we really should be hosting it every two-three decades.

A Scandinavian/German boycott might bring about a change, but that won't happen.

Half of the Germans gold medals are for playing kids games. Sledding down a hill? What's next, Olympic hide-and-seek? I'm kidding (maybe)

Bring it on, we are experts at making gold, art, and people disappear.
(I'll see myself out)

They should just default all speed skating medals to us honestly. I honestly don't understand why Dutch people are so good at it. Sure we like ice skating in winter and are big farmer like people with strong legs, but every other bloke that puts on ice skates wins an olympic medal.

Maybe it's not too late for me to try.
