2016 US Presidential Elections | Trump Wins

I'll give you an honest answer. Because I'm an arsehole who would find it funny and cares more about his own amusement than the repercussions of it actually happening. Also I like Trump, he doesn't give a shite what people think of him.

On the contrary, he's extraordinarily thin-skinned ... which is why Hillary Clinton has found it so easy to bait him. Or take his need to try and show that he doesn't have small hands.

Trump is a neo-fascist.

The ignorance on display there makes my head hurt. Also, the guy talking about "the enclaves"... Says he doesn't like it that "they" are trying to create an exclusivist culture and sees no irony in that whatsoever as he's surrounded by middle aged white "Christians".

The majority of Trump's support comes from the ill-educated - people who never went beyond High School, including those who never finished High School. Many are the people who get their "facts" from TV reality shows, conspiracy websites and far-right talk-radio show hosts.

Most of them have probably never been outside the USA and many would be stumped if you showed them a blank map of the world and asked them to point out the continent of Europe.

Just reading another guardian article with interviews with Trump supporters. They seem to do them daily but oddly no press on Clinton supporters.

Anyway a man made the point of Hillary taking money from people who pay taxes and giving it to those who don't work. That seems to be a very British mantra that i wouldn't expect to hear over in the US. Is anti-welfare an equally hostile and hot topic over there?

Exactly. I can't believe I'm agreeing with you. But you're dead right.

At least it's not football only current issues :D

The only hope for America is that, these lot aren't reproducing at a faster rate than the rest of the country. Cause if not, you lot are fecked.

The most fertile population in US is the hispanics, plus the fact that some of them probably don't believe in birth control, thanks to catholicism, they are the fastest growing demographic.

It's even worse than that in some instances. I had a student not able to point out the USA or SC on a blank map. The student is in high school.

The conservatives in this country take that mantra and put it on steroids.

I thought that was more of an anti-socialist mantra rather than a very specific issue with benefits. May have just been the phrasing which made me think twice, perhaps Farage has been briefing on the issue :nervous:

The majority of Trump's vocal support, the majority of those at his rallies, I'd agree. There's plenty of otherwise intelligent Republicans who support him and intend on voting for him who aren't appearing on camera making fools of themselves.

I was over there earlier this year and one colleague, who has seen almost as much of the world as I have went to great lengths to explain how he felt everything in life should be earned, that there should be no free education, medicare, welfare etc and that the Democrats were ruining the US by giving it all away and encouraging immigration. Another who I later toured the UK and Europe with for a week visiting projects was even more convinced that Trump was the only answer and that another Clinton would be ruinous. When challenged on the loopier Trump stuff both dismissed it as rabble rousing (something his idiotic vocal support prove) and believe that he is using the furore for free publicity but will drop the outlandish shit once in office and run the US like a business again.

I don't agree with them with regards to their politics but they're not the ill educated, passportless goofs we'd like to portray all his support as and I do suspect they may be right that much of Trump's schtick is an act to appeal to the masses and that those same masses will be the most disappointed and hardest hit under a Trump presidency in much the same way many of the most vocal Brexit supporters will suffer most when the realities are felt.

I just hope to feck there's not as many silent, intelligent Republicans out there who still believe Trump is the only option who will bolster the ranks of the idiots in the voting and give him a win despite what all the polls say.

Oh you sweet summer child

With the amount of pills they demand from their doctor, poor diet and living close to farming/chemical/energy production waste plants these will go a long way to help that. I have never come across a more unintelligent demographic of a developed country in my life. The unwillingness to accept basic facts and hatred of everyone that is not like them is so frustrating. Although I am a staunch atheist I kind of wish that Jesus came back, was gay and black, told them he literally loves everyone, that Buddhists and Hindus are closer to the truth and meaning of the universe, Palestine belongs to the Palistinians and his real name is Horus. The meltdown would be epic. Or he could be a chilled out white dude with beautiful hair talking about universal love with twelve other dudes, at which point they would call him a liberal communist who hates America. My head hurts even knowing I live on the same beautiful rock with these people.

That means nothing to me. I still want Trump to win. He won't. But I want him to

The people who I know that are educated and support Trump are broadly those that either have never cared much for politics and would enjoy watching the world on fire, or those that are rabidly anti-left. And I'm anti-left myself, but have realized that: a. Hillary is not left. b. Whatever I might think of the left, I don't need to jump off any cliffs to prove my point.

Some of these polls are frankly ridiculous.

The ABC poll has changed from Clinton 12 up to Clinton 4 up since Monday.

An eight point swing in a few days?

I generally ignore the daily tracking polls - so that rules out the ABC, LATimes/USC, and IBD/TIPP trackers. Trouble is, Silver and RCP use them in their averages and forecast models.

Obviously polls mean incrementally less as we approach Nov 8th since millions of votes have already been cast in many states. They are however important from a perceptual standpoint as if they appear to be tightening, it will embolden Trump supporters to vote on November 8th because they will think there is still a chance for Trump to win. If they polls are widening, some might not bother as they may believe a Hillary win will happen irrespective of whether or not they vote.

And meanwhile the IBD one that people were fretting about last week has moved in Clinton's direction

Lol. Why?

EDIT: Nevermind, saw your explanation above. Liking a homophobic, Islamophobic, sexist, misogynist and xenophobic person who insults war veterans and brags about committing sexual assault and dodging taxes because he 'doesn't care what people think of him' is a bit odd, especially when he goes batshit crazy and sues anyone who says something bad about him but each to their own I guess. Personally I'm not a fan of those values and traits. Anyone with them is a bell end.

A lot of noises. Similar to post-Dem convention. Double digit lead not durable in the absence of continued intense bad coverage for Drumpf/good coverage of Clinton.

Johnson and Stein voters are coming home. Final margin 6-8 points as things stand.

It's all about the downballot now. He's already lost FL, going by the early vote number.

Polls are tightening up - Silver's forecast was as high as 92% 10 days ago. Its now gone down to nearly 80.

http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/?ex_cid=rrpromo#now

RCP average is down to 4.4

It's really amazing how they can swing so much, even with different people being polled all the time. It gives the impression people are changing their minds and I struggle how that happens this late in the process. We could use one more debate before the election day.

A CNBC and New York Times hack.

Hardly a fair unbiased source.

Trump is closing.

I'm done responding to you after this post.

Earlier you claimed 150m Americans had "bought into" Trump. There are two - and only two - relevant facts here:

1) Only those who vote for Trump can be fairly said to have "bought into" him.
2) Only around 52m Americans, on current polling evidence, will vote for Trump

52m is not 150m - geddit?

Yeah, relax there fella. You're arguing over a post where I quoted a figure of 40 odd percent of America instead of 40% of those who vote.
But remember, I also had about 10 Kenny Powers quotes in that post. So feel free to get all wound up and refuse to engage with me any more.

Anyway, I stand by my comment. If 100 million people don't care enough to vote against Donald Trump then, for me, they've bought into him enough.

Bravo good Sir, bravo!
