2016 US Presidential Elections | Trump Wins

Just woke up in Denmark. Speechless. Atleast weed is legal in California and Massachusetts if/when I go back.

The republicans control everything now. This after a pretty decent Obama presidency. How?

Do you think it would be a shitty tactic for the Dems to blitz the airwaves talking about the popular vote? Not to call the result into question, just to put it on the agenda.

Not sure why I care about shitty tactics against Trump but there you go.

They seem to struggle to come up with well reasoned arguments on a lot of issues, clearly. Any pseudo-intellectual can write off vast swathes of electorates as racist morons because they don't agree with their own enshrined opinions. A genuinely intelligent liberal would have the common sense to realise that nothing will be accomplished with that approach. But I've not seen many attempts at engaging with these arguments post Brexit, and I'm not hopeful of seeing m/any post Trump.

DNC should have went with Bernie as he was one of those few people who had the right moral compass AND an ability to voice his opinions in an convincing fashion. Instead they rigged the whole primary so their favorite Hillary could take it. The sad part is that Bernie had a lot of support among the "grass root" and undecided voters and the democrats would have voted on him vs Trump anyway

Nope. The most Trump can get is 310 which is less than either Obama victory, but better than Dubya's two wins. Its very hard for a Republican to win in a blowout these days just due to the way the EC breaks down.

Fair enough but if he beats Clinton by miore than 50 electoral college votes it'll be astounding nonetheless.

People are spoiled and selfish. They believe Obama is the reason they aren't better off.

When I first heard about Trump camp targeting Michigan, I thought it was optimistic. He has gone and won Michigan, PA and Wisconsin. 46 electoral votes which looked pretty safe for Clinton.

Did Clinton get complacent in those states? Just wondering if it was always going to turn or was the Clinton camp to blame for taking it for granted.

as a wise man once said, "people like coldplay and voted for the nazis. you can't trust people."

No they care about the poor refugees!! Just make sure you get their good side.

Ben Affleck, Amy Schumer and co's twitters will have turned more people to Trump than to Clinton. A lot more.

Yep. I don't see Bernie losing WI, MI and PA, primarily because he would have engaged with these areas, engaged with the big issues there rather than focus all of his campaign onto Trump and how racist and sexist his supporters are.

Hillary let Trump dictate the entire discourse of this election. Even though a lot of that discourse reflected badly on him, he still dictated it all. The reason for that is that she and her campaign team decided that they were morally superior, and no other arguments mattered.

It's got nothing to do with her being a woman... She represents the establishment and the elites and middle America have have had enough of it.
I never thought this but I'm honestly beginning to think it's a valid explanation. I mean you would struggle to name a US president who hasn't been involved in corruption, scandals or war crimes of one kind or another. Reagan had to resign on national TV ffs and he still has some of the highest approval ratings ever. Why then is this suddenly THIS offensive to so many Americans? Is it the old when a man is being two faced and manipulative, it is called cunning and smart politics but when a woman, it just doesn't commute? I am not sure but it certainly too much of a coincidence that the American public is suddenly this shocked about anything less than straight forwardness from their political figures.

She hasn't visited Wisconsin since April.

Trump won the young white people vote as well.

He's not going to win the popular vote is he, so I wouldn't suggest he has been hard done by the EC.

The man they voted for has suggested doing the exact thing that made Reagan resign.

The Republican party got lucky in some ways with Trump. They were dead in the water with all of their candidates. If Trump leaves after one term only or even if somehow he stays for two terms they could propose someone else and still be able to claim that it'd be a huge change, which people like, as opposed to 'more of the same' which people tend not to like.

That would make sense if the electorate had also thrown out incumbent senators and congresspeople...but they didn't.
