2013 Major League Baseball (MLB)

Total overpay of course but he has great speed. Finding it hard to see how he has managed to get 7 years and $153 million from it though. If he had several 2011 type seasons then yes, but he hasn't.

This will probably drive up the price for Choo as well. feckers.

Speaking of ridiculous contracts, the Royals have supposedly offered $48m/3yrs to Beltran. Christ on a bike.

Konerko's getting $2.5m by the way. Which makes the big issue the roster spot.

Can we interest anybody in an Adam Dunn? He hits dingers!

Tigers signed Nathan, you bastards, but it's been said Texas wanted to move on. $20m/2yrs with a club option for a third year.

Feliz will inherit his closer role back if he can remain healthy. He had 72 saves from 2010-2011 until injuries caught him with only 14 appearances in past two seasons. Have heard a rumor they may go after Kimbrel as Atlanta are reluctant to pay top dollar. No clue what it would take to acquire Kimbrel or if he's worth such a big investment.

Relievers are rarely worth big investment. Nathan is one of the few who has been worth big investment and if he can replicate what he did in Texas/most of Minnesota then he'll perform to/outperform his contract (although it'd still be stupid having given up Fister to get him) but looking at his numbers there seems to be a fairly high chance of regression.

stfu nerd

Nerding it up further: he gave up 2 home runs in 64.2 innings. 0.28 HR/9, compared to 0.98 the year before and 1.41 the year before. Unsustainable.

Robinson Cano agrees to terms with the Mariners, 10 years! and $240 million.

Thanks for the good times Robbie, but that is waaaaaaay beyond what was sensible to give.

Stupid Mariners. Enjoy fighting for last place annually, Robinson!

So much for Jay-Z being this awesome agent. Any poster in this thread could have got Robinson to the Mariners! Seattle is not exactly a preferred spot to market an athlete outside the sport.

So, did the Yanks overpay for Ellsbury or the Mariners underpay for Robinson?

I thought nobody was stupid enough the hand out 10 year contracts anymore. Step forward the Mariners. Lets see how long it is before Robbie stops hustling. Enjoy last place. Pujols and Hamilton can tell you about big contracts and going from good teams to bad teams.

Stumbled across this gif and the "story" behind it. And it's fairly spot on on how most of the America sees Yankees fans/New Yorkers.

Beltran always wanted to be a Yankee, glad it finally happened but its a shame its about 10 years late.

Kuroda is back on a 1 year, $16 million deal. Manage his innings better and its great, now go get a middle piece.

Texas signed some backup catcher that hit .194 last year, Arencibia is his name and hitting isn't in his game. Imagine being a terrible player and still making $1.8 million. I really should have used the juice back in the early 90s.

On the other hand it is nice to see players sign for someone other than one of the usual big clubs now and then. Either Seattle is trying to make a statement and Cano sees himself as the leader of the resurgence or this is a horrible mistake for all involved.

Texas overpays for Choo. Not sold on that contract. He got o/a $30m more than he should have thanks to Ellsbury's deal and Texas needing a legit leadoff hitter. His agent fleeced the Rangers coffers.

Tanaka will be signing somewhere this week, I want to see his pure filth splitter in the pinstripes.

And the Yankees get Tanaka. 7/155.

Thats the $189m target well and truly broken, figure they will go after another rotation arm now. Probably Garza.
