2013 Major League Baseball (MLB)

I'm a bandwaggoner, though I apologise for it.

Eboue, do you hate Ortiz coz he's so fecking good? The RedSox Nation thing I get. Cork have this People's Republic of Cork shite and it rankles a bit. Cork, however, is 150 miles away, so I never hear from the hoors. Dublin, on the other hand, is full of bigger cnuts and is only 50 odd miles away.

No, I hate him because he is a fecking asshole.

8-1.
The commentators kept saying it was a great turnaround season. Is that within this year or compared to last year?

I remember YEARS ago, when I never saw any baseball, that the BlueJays went from worst to first in a year. Is that not the best ever?

The previous season in which they finished fifth (last) in their division, which to be fair has been quite stacked the last four/five years with the resurgence of Baltimore and Toronto and the rise of Tampa.

Not an MLB fan, but this has been a great game and an epic conclusion.

Buck got his gig because of his daddy (and he's shit at it) and McCarver is an arrogant prick that once was given a "cooling off" by Deion Sanders (in retaliation of McCarver's unwarranted criticism of Deion's two-sport career; some versions have stated Deion "cooled him off" three or four times that evening).

Bloody hell. Just watched Game3 on Sky+ as I was away yesterday. The fecking recording stopped just as Molina got to 3rd base in the bottom of the 9th. Modern fecking technology. Had avoided anything that might mention the game, then couldn't watch the end. Just saw the winning run on mlb.com.

Red Sox in trouble, from what little I know about it. Too many holes in their defence. Pedroia is playing brilliantly, especially as he's covering a lot for Ortiz too.

OK lads, I'm getting sucked in to this WS completely. Marcello said that TV ratings are down, but I think it's enthralling. So far, apart from Game1, the games have gone down to the wire. Red Sox's win last night at least means they get back to Fenway.

I have to say that the amount of full games I have seen could be totted up very quickly, but I think the mistakes are adding to the enjoyment.

Mind you a 9.5 is still a high rating in the overall ratings scheme, especially for a US sporting event, but MLB has become a less-watched sport over the years. Though NCAA (regionally) and NFL games usually draw well above 10 ratings and the Super Bowl is normally in the 40s.

In the biggest baseball news of the last few weeks, the White Sox announced the signing of Jose Abreu.

Next year's mlb season will start with a match in Melbourne Cricket Ground which holds over 100,000 people. It is nearly 600 feet long and 500 feet wide.....I guess there won't be too many HRs that day!

They'll setup an outfield fence with dimensions in the 300-400ft range. But if they didn't there could be many "inside the park" homeruns hit.

Gomes just got hit by a pitch. The umpire pointed at Wacha. Is there any sanction on the pitcher for that?

...looked to me that Gomes was tagged at the home plate. Anyway 3-0.

Probably a warning but there is no doubt that was unintentional. Gomes was safe. Molina didn't get his leg until the foot had crossed over the plate.

Watched the first three innings and finally Boston broke through. Now time to find something else and switch back around the 8th inning. Baseball has become so boring to me over the years.

Wanted it to go to a Game 7 because it'd be a win-win, either Peavy wins and it's good 'cos I like him or Peavy blows it and it's good 'cos the White Sox win the trade. Alas.

Point: Bank of America donated $1 million to support service members

Counterpoint: Bank of America announced a third quarter profit of $2.5 billion (with a B)
Counterpoint2: Bank of America illegally foreclosed on hundreds of active duty service members

Let's all thank Bank of America, a proud supporter of our service members and veterans!

I someday hope to finally see MLB end this seventh-inning 'God Bless America' shit. The networks don't go to commercial break until after the song and yet the coolest thing at Fenway, the rendition of 'Sweet Caroline' during the eight-inning, is not televised. Oh but the US doesn't promote religion. Sigh.

I am not alone. http://ethicsalarms.com/2013/06/02/...d-the-obligatory-god-bless-america-rendition/

Found that quite odd during the game last night...it's not a tradition I was aware of.

I doubt there's a country whose citizenry has patriotism shoved down its throat more than America's.

Congrats to the Red Sox. Amazing that it's been 95 yrs since they won it at home.
There must be a hell of a hangover there in NE this morning.

that whole patriotic thing makes me uncomfortable. the introduction of the servicemen and women and all that....

when I was living there in 1990-'92 the Red Sox and Pats were pretty poor, so the recent success must be all the sweeter now for them.
still don't like the Pats though ;)

So, Prince Fielder just got traded for Ian Kinsler.

$30 million going to the Rangers, rumors that another player might be involved, though no one is reporting who

Interesting, to say the least. Blockbuster I guess, if trading two struggling potentially great players is what constitutes a blockbuster.

Don't know the dimensions of Arlington, but a few people saying that Prince is going to do well. He should, hopefully he gets over his personal issues and becomes the player I think all Tigers fans thought he would be hitting behind Cabrera. I really hope Fielder does well there, even though I think Texas fans are some of the most annoying fans in all of baseball.

The Yankees should have been in on Fielder. Make him a DH. If he wasn't hitting ground balls to first, he was hitting pop flies about 270 feet into the outfield. Isn't that how deep Yankee Stadium is in right field now?

Either way, I remember going mental upon hearing that Fielder was signing for Detroit. My reaction to this is, well, reserved. Though I think we'll have to wait a couple weeks to see the full extent of this deal and its implications for the Tigers. Nathan, Max long term, and Cabrera at first would be good. Ellsbury or Choo in left would be an added bonus for sure
