2013 Major League Baseball (MLB)

Towers has just said on AZ sports radio that he didn't have the chance to speak to Prado's representatives before the deal, so at the moment they're just 'hopeful' that he'll extend there.

And I get upset with Dombrowski sometimes!

TBF to me though, he did sign Willis to one of the worst contracts in MLB history, ditto Nate Robertson

At least your club didn't give Chan Ho Park a ridiculous contract to leave a pitcher's park in LA to pitch in a hitter's park in Texas. Biggest bonehead decision ever.

Brandon Webb retires :( Discussion on a D-backs site around how much money Webb would have made gave this quite interesting link on pensions in American sports:
http://articles.businessinsider.com...fetime-healthcare-major-leagues#ixzz2IIGLmDw6
MLB players must play 43 days in the majors to earn a minimum $34,000 annual pension plan. Just one day in the majors gets them lifetime healthcare coverage. After 10 years in the big leagues, benefits grow to $100,000 annually.
And as I doubted it earlier in the thread, I guess I ought to give the sexiest GM in baseball kudos for extending Prado.

If they keep Longoria healthy and gets some decent power from their outfield you cannot sniff at those odds, their rotation is fantastic.

Couple that with the Red Sox rebuilding and the Yankees nowhere near as strong as the past couple of seasons you can genuinely see the Blue Jays and Rays battling for the title and wildcard, I think Orioles will struggle to maintain their 2012 form.

Yeah Yahoo is the best, we tried to get one going on here but there was never enough people.

Anyone following the World Baseball Classic? Japan, Netherlands and the Dominican Republic all through to the semis. USA will probably join them unless Puerto Rico can upset them.

Don't think I've been less enthusiastic about the start of a new season. Worst off-season evra (since 2004).

Awful prections time:

AL East: Tampa Bay
AL Central: Detroit
AL West: LAA
Wild card: Texas over Toronto

NL East: Washington
NL Central: Cincinnati
NL West: LAD
Wild card: Atlanta over San Francisco

ALCS: LAA over Tampa Bay
NLCS: Atlanta over LAD
WS: LAA over Atlanta

AL ROY: Trevor Bauer
NL ROY: Oscar Taveras

AL Cy Young: Felix Hernandez
NL Cy Young: Clayton Kershaw

AL MVP: Mike Trout
NL MVP: Justin Upton

There is literally nobody to get excited about in the Yankee team this year, I mean obviously its fun to watch Cano and Ichiro but prospect wise theres nothing, just old leftovers the other teams don't want.

He falls into the leftovers bit, and you know he does!

I'm just jealous as seemingly every team in baseball has a breakout prospect or two to watch or has sewn up their superstars on long extensions. All whilst the Yankees let their best hitter potentially go to free agency and have all our prospects no higher than Double A.

It's gonna take another 100-150 years of suffering before I feel sorry for the Yankees. Plus, they're only trying to get under the luxury tax this year. They'll be spending obscene gobs of money next off-season.

Without any doubt, this feels like a make do season. Thing is by using scrapheap stuff to plug numerous holes it just makes the 2014 offseason incredibly important and you can never trust them to not feck it up.

I'd feel tons better if A-Rod fecked off though.

Nope. But I remember it on the news at the time. Since I became I fan I read up a lot about it. Jim Joyce seems like a classy guy. Terrible call though.

I missed Phillip Humber's perfecto, but watched live when he gave up 8 runs in 1/3 of an inning against the Twins.

So chaps I have room for one of these players in my fantasy baseball team: Justin Morneu, Matt Carpenter or Domonic Brown. Morneu is obviously the highest ranked but he's facing a tough pitcher at a fairly unfriendly ball-park. Thoughts?

White Sox 2-0. I have a feeling this is gonna be a lonely thread this year.
