2011 Baseball Thread

My Texas friend said the Rangers have considered making an offer to Pujols (well before they two clubs met in the World Series).

He'd hit 50+ homeruns in that lineup with the protection he'd get.

I told him the Rangers need to be wary of putting too much of their money into one player. They have to resign Wilson or find another quality starter and that's going to cost them probably 12-15m per year (insane a guy like Wilson will get that kind of money).

He also mentioned Fielder might end up in Texas. I think Fielder will end up with the Cubs and Pujols remains in St Louis. Wilson probably gets a big deal from the Yankees.

Still get angry every time I see Matt Harrison, Neftali Feliz and Elvis Andrus play for the Rangers. Cant believe we gave ALL of them (+ more) up for a rental on Mark Teixeira.

What did Atlanta get from the Angels so they could rent Teixeira?

BTW, the Braves also got Mahay in that trade. ;)

Casey Kotchman, who despite being a first baseman, would make the likes of David Eckstein look like a legitimate clean-up hitter. Probably one of the most pointless players I've seen in my life as a Braves fan.

Mahay was just awful. Maybe even worse than Scott Linebrink, who was this years worst player on the team.

Andrus & Feliz alone for that Tex rental must hurt, burnt on that one big time.

That's exactly why I don't like to see top prospects getting traded for anything less than a sure thing and certainly not a rental. I have that feeling that the Yankees are going to do that this winter with Montero, they don't think he is ready to catch, the DH spot traditionally is used for rotation and 1B is tied up long term.

I mean hell they nearly gave him up for a Cliff Lee rental a year ago. Unless they are signing Pujols (and they won't be) then let the kid DH and have 40 games at C, I wanna see him rake for years in pinstripes.

Oh and I also want Darvish and his filthy stuff no matter the cost/risk, it ain't my money.

Derek Holland came up big tonight. Shame he couldn't get through the 9th for the shutout. Massive performance.

Texas hasn't lost consecutive home games since August!

Game 6 is terrible defensively so far. Errors and mistakes galore. Cards starting pitcher didn't make it past three innings.

Come on Rangers. Say no to Game 7! Finish them!

it goes to game seven. I think that was the best game I have ever seen considering the magnitude of the game.

...why were they ripping the dude's clothes off?

Joke I've already thought up: "And yet, when I did that to the player who drove in the winning run for my softball team last week, she slapped me with a restraining order."

Saint Louis is alive tonight. Midnight now, just about to leave my apt downtown to join the party. What a night!

Really glad its going to game seven, the series really warrants it.

I have a sneaking feeling Pujols will have a big say in the outcome tomorrow. He has been quiet for a couple of games.

fecking Ron Washington exhausted his bull pen stupidly. I mean 2 out pitchers? WTF?
If he loses this World series, it should be the end of him. Rangers are too talented for his stupid moves.

I gotta be honest, I haven't been really watching this World Series, not pitch by pitch anyways.

For whatever reason I decided around the 7th inning to watch this thing.

Can I just say, best world series game of all time?

I was sure after the Josh Hamilton 2 homer it was all over. But these Cardinals, twice a pitch away, from losing the Series and then to come back and win.

Amazing scenes, simply amazing.

you can question tons of things but none of it really mattered. we had them down to their last strike TWICE and couldn't put them away.

gotta do it tonight against that shithead carpenter. GO RANGERS!!

Some amazing play off firsts in last nights game:

- First team to come back from being behind five times in a game.

- First time a team has come back with the final pitch twice in the same game.

- First time a team has scored in the 8th, 9th, 10th and 1th innings.

I think there was a couple more but I forget what they were.

Oh my its going to be a long winter of regrets for the Texans if the Cards hold this lead.

And so it ends. Congrats to the Cards and better luck next time to the Texans. Thanks for a great series.

Gary...that was the shit.

Ya'all deserved to win, but that Cardinal team wasn't going to lose.

The Texans deserved to win when the series was in the 8th innings of game six. I think by the end of game seven the Cards 100% deserved the win.

I'm starting to understand how Boston fans felt for years.

Texas simply choked. Washington is not a great in-game manager as evident by his calls this series. The pitching stunk - throw fecking strikes, it's that simple.

But for me the goat is Cruz. He should have caught that ball. And I'm reading over on ESPN that many people felt a player with more defensive range should have been in RF for the 9th. Thoughts?

I don't think it was a matter of Texas choking, but rather the Cardinals just pulling off comeback after comeback.

Over the course of the series, yeah, you're going to have some questionable calls from both managers, but, i think overall that Washington did just as good of a job with his club as La Russa. Hell, Tony successfully tried everything he could in game 5 to lose.

That Cardinals team started winning games at the end of August, and just kept pulling off the impossible, time and again. David Freese turned into a superman there at the end, and we were able to use the momentum from game 6 to finish it off last night.

i think nerves got feliz in the 9th when they had just one strike to get. he was wild, upset at the ump, had men on base. i think cruz did misplay that but without him they wouldn't have been there in the first place. the pitching overall did stink. too many walks. pitched scared.

I don't really see how Washington can take the blame here, he got within a strike twice of delivering a World Series. It's baseball, it happens and it sucks when you are on the losing end.

It's a choke when a club is up three runs with six outs remaining.

It's a choke when a club is up two runs with three outs remaining.

It's a choke when a club is one strike from the championship and a fielder misplays the ball.

It's a choke when a club is again up two runs with three outs remaining.

It's a choke when a club is again one strike from the championship.
