Now the European team is official I thought the Ryder Cup specific chat would be better in its own thread.

I am pretty shocked Justin Rose was left out TBH.

EUROPEAN RYDER CUP TEAM
Lee Westwood (Eng) Age 37; Previous Ryder Cups 6
Martin Kaymer (Ger) 25; Debut
Rory McIlroy (NI) 21; Debut
Graeme McDowell (NI) 31; RC 1
Ian Poulter (Eng) 34; RC 2
Ross Fisher (Eng) 29; Debut
Francesco Molinari (Ita) 27; Debut
M A Jimenez (Spa) 46; RC 3
Peter Hanson (Swe) 32; Debut
Padraig Harrington (Ire) 38; RC 5
Luke Donald (Eng) 32; RC 2
Edoardo Molinari (Ita) 29; Debut

I would have took Rose instead of Harrington without doubt, couple of good wins in the US lately and a fantastic performance in the last Ryder Cup, on the other hand Harrington has had a bad year and can't really ever think of him performing that well in a Ryder Cup.

If the US don't take Woods, whoever the captain is should be shot. I think it looks on paper like the Europeans should saunter to it, but these things dont really mean much. Regardless Europe will win as it is in their back yard

Harrington really shouldn't have been picked, he's lost his last nine Ryder cup games and had a poor year overall, Casey or Rose would have been far better picks imo

Out of the 3, Rose would have been my choice based on this year's form. I did, however, think they'd take Harrington based on his reputation, and that seems to be the primary reason Monty chose him.

On Woods' form the past year, I wouldn't have picked him, but he seems to have upped his game the last few weeks (not sure if he's won anything but SSN has been impressed by him). His reputation is also a reason he's picked, no-one will want to play Tiger because he is capable of doing something special (his win at the US Open against Mediate was incredible).

I would leave Woods out, his Ryder Cup record isn’t very good. Won 10 and lost 13 equates to a losing record. Same goes for Stuart Cink, lost 7 won 4.

Personally I would have gone for rookies and left those two at home.

I think Woods wi have a great Ryder Cup.

He hasn't won anything but in terms of improvement in form, he's an inspired selection. It somehow ends up justifying Harrington's selection for the Europeans though.

I foresee them being paired together in the singles.

I also reckon Monty will pair the Molinari bros in the foursomes.

Just taken Fri. 1st Oct. off for this as i missed the last one. Should be great stuff. im still sticking with my prediction of an american win.

The time is almost upon us for the most highly anticipated event in Golf's calender. Can Europe recapture the title the lost two years ago in America or can the USA team hold firm in turning round Europes recent fortunes? With this years Cup being particularly exciting with the revival of American form in the competition, possibly Europes greatest ever Ryder cup exponent captaining the side & Tigers recent 'lifestyle amendments' being brought to his attention by the likely boistrous Welsh crowd.

Will Monties decision to bring out of form, three time major winner Harrington at the expense of Casey come back to haunt him and will Pavin's choice of Tiger as a wildcard be seem in the end as a big Gamble on the world no.1 regaining form for a competition he's never seemed to care for too much before. It certainly will be a magnificent event, lets hope it comes down to the 18th green in the last singles match on sunday at 6pm for the title.

Which bright spark decided that having a Ryder cup in Wales, in October was a good idea?

I can't wait for this to start. I've taken holidays on Friday and Saturday to watch it and I'm missing out on a ¾ marathon on Sunday that I've already entered to watch.

Same as.

Missed alot of the last one so said we do this one properly. few of us took fri. off.

Sky are doing highlight shows of some previous Ryder Cups this week. Watched a bit of the 1995 one. Didnt follow Golf back then. Well worth watching.......Cracking last day in the singles.

FRIDAY FOURBALLS

So their both obviously trying to leave the big showdown for the singles.

I'm going to say 2.5-1.5 to the US.

I obviously want Europe to regain the cup but I do hope McIlroy faces Tiger and has his cocky little ass kicked all over the show.

Love to see a Woods-McIlroy matchup, but to be fair all Rory said was Tiger's lost his aura, which is true. Doesn't mean Woods is all of a sudden an average player (although at times he has looked it), and as I commented in the other thread, if Woods is on form it's like having an extra player in your team.

I'd also like to see Fowler-McIlroy play each other. Both are supremely talented, and although Rory has more experience, Fowler has something special about him.

Can't wait for this to start, hope the weather holds up the next 3 days...

Can't find a stream for this anywhere, all shut down it seems. A pm from anyone would be great.

Thanks.

Reckon it will get called off for the day, seriously whoever decided Wales in October for this deserves to be shot.

So play suspended, europe 3 up so far.

Harrington and Donald have actually been very unlucky to be 2 down. The Americans hit two fantastic shots for birdies. I still reckon that match will be won by the Europeans.

I've never really paid any attention to golf, but I was watching some interviews with the main protagonists earlier and I couldn't help but notice that Lee Westwood looks like he has Down's Syndrome.

He doesn't, does he?

Great putt at the end from Poulter. Yanks leading in 2 of the matches, Westwood/Kaymer 1 up in theirs and the putt from Poulter ensured that match is all-square.

BBC reporting fog is expected tomorrow morning and "loads more rain Sunday", with today's fourballs still to finish tomorrow, it's looking like atleast a Monday finish if there are more delays...
