2009 Golf Season

Mickelson wins in the States. A second successive 69 for Tiger to finish in the top ten. It won't be long before he is back to 100%.

4th round he looked in top form... you can see just the odd shot here and there that wouldnt drop, and 10 foot putts would be 2-3 footers on a normal run.

Can't wait for the Masters, he'll be a threat.

Good sunday to watch though, Phil seems like he wants his respect and is playing on another planet leading up to April... a battle between him and Tiger would be epic.

Yea it would be great to see Tiger and Mickelson go head to head. Harrington will be a factor in the majors. He reckons his whole season these days are geared towards the last 9 holes in each of the majors. I'd prefer to see Harrington and Woods going head to head on the final round of a major.

Tiger is on the prowl... going to be another one to watch for, will be flicking between this and the UNC game

Brilliance, we will never see an athlete do such a thing ever again in any sport.

Enjoy this while we can people.

I wonder if Tiger ever does the Senior Tour or he will just keep playing in the PGA til he retires. Reckon he will have a 1986 like Masters for Nickalus when he is 55 if his heart is still in the game.

When he landed it that close, you just knew it was going in. My number one Tiger moment was his first Masters because I was at it, but after that I am up in the air over the 2005 Masters and last year's US Open

Looking at him last night I think he may go on and dominate even more than he was in previous years. Some of the sheer power he showed when scrambling was amazing, time and time again he shows why hes the best by a country mile. Great to have him back.

I only watch golf when tiger plays, the thing is though he's like united, he starts off slowly but wipes the floor with the rest at the business end. One of the very few athletes where people are unanimous in acknowledging him as the very finest. He makes golf entertaining for people who are less interested in the sport. I still remember the shot he played that was used by nike as an ad:eek::eek::drool::drool:

There's an ounce of intimidation, and even in the high-pressure situations he lacked any sort of slip (Minus the bunker on 17) as opposed to O'Hair.

Zach Johnson was having alot of fun as a part of that trio

He's said himself that he will retire the day his best isn't good enough to win on the tour anymore. He's such a competitive person, and I don't think the Senior Tour will provide the kind of competitiveness that he desire. Wouldn't surprise me if he called it a day at a relative young age. As a player relying so much on his body strength and athleticism, I can see him struggle when his body starts to age. The man has so much god given talent though it is unreal, It wouldn't surprise me if he could evolve his game so he doesn't get too dependent on his athletic build. If he can do that, I can see him carrying on well into his 50s.

I think this is actually a good point. Tiger has been playing golf since he was 2 years old.

How much of his success is down to talent and how much is down to dedication and practice?

Taking absolutely nothing away from him - I consider him to be one of the most dominant athletes of all time.

I remember Rooney saying in an interview that when he was younger, him and all of his friends wanted to be professional footballers. Difference was he played football even when it meant not going to the cinema with his friends.

I think dedication and determination probably have as much to play as talent in a lot of cases.

Great first PGA tour win for Casey. Fair play to him. He is coming into top form at the right time.

Did anyone watch the Irish Open over the weekend? It was some achievement for the amateur Shane Lowry to win in his first ever professional tournament. Unbelievable.

Didn't catch it but i've heard of the lads name and he's quite the up-and-coming player... heard nothing but good things about the lad.

Where will he go pro, in Europe or the States?

But he can't take the prize money home, ridiculous.

Europe I'd say. He hasn't announced that he is going pro. Apparently he wants to compete in the Walker Cup. However, he has been receiving offers from media companies for sponsorship etc so I wouldn't be surprised if he scraps that idea and looks for a Ryder Cup spot instead.

I think he'll have to get a hell of a lot more experience to compete on the US tour as it is of much higher standard than it's European counterpart.

Lowry did not do well in his first professional tournament. He missed the cut by a mile. I think he might struggle in his first few tournaments with all the pressure on him. In a few weeks when the novelty has subsided the press won't be all over him and he'll be left to get back to his game which I am sure he will do.

The world's toughest golf tourney: one hole, three miles long

By Jay Busbee

So what's the world's toughest golf tournament? Take your Augustas and your Bethpages and pack 'em away, friend, because we've found the most difficult golf tournament on the planet: courtesy of the AP, we present the Elfego Baca Shootout. Man, even the name sounds rough.

Held in Socorro, New Mexico, the tournament consists of exactly one hole, and the target is a 50-foot circle. Easy, right? Not so fast. The tee to that hole is 2,550 feet up the side of a mountain, and nearly three miles from the green. So yes, you have to be able to pound the golf ball with some accuracy a la Briny Baird hitting off a building in San Diego or golfers belting off the side of a mountain in South Africa -- but after that, you've still got miles to go before you sleep.

The rules alone should give you an idea of how hard the course is. You're allowed ten balls, and must finish with at least one of those. If you can't find one of your balls in 20 minutes, it's a stroke. You can tee up every single shot because the terrain is so rugged. You're even allowed three spotters to watch where the heck your ball goes.

And they'll have plenty to see. Hazards include abandoned mine shafts, remote canyons, rattlesnakes, mountain lions and much more. No need to take a full bag; many golfers get by with only a driver and a five-iron.

Named for Elfego Baga, a local peacekeeper during the Old West, the one-hole shootout is part of the larger Socorro Open, and was first played in 1960. Since then, about the only difference is that the players have begun using laser range-finders. The hazards haven't changed one bit.

Oh, and the course record? Nine strokes to cover three miles. Beat that, Tiger.

SICK

I'm on Tiger this weekend and he's 4 behind going into the final round, doable if he's feeling his god like self.

Just 2 behind now, but in good company. Ernie, Ogilvy, Furyk all there too.

1 behind :D -4 after 7.

Come on Tigerrrrrrrrrrrr.
