2005 GAA Championship

Great win for the Dubs today 14-13 against Laois in the Leinster Final..............I honestly didn't think they'd win but they showed great composure and fighting qualities firstly to see Laois close down their five point lead from the first half, then Dublin went ahead by three and Laois hauled them back again and went ahead only for Mossy Quinn to kick two superb 45's under immense pressure to seal it for Dublin. Great game attended by over 81,000 people

Still hope we get a handy one in the quarter-final draw as I think the semis are probably the most realistic target for the Dubs this year

I was in the Hogan Stand yesterday for the match. Not the best of games but nerve wrecking towards the end all the same. My voice will come back today at some stage I hope. Went down to the Palace Bar after, about 100 people outside having a sing song, next thing we looked over the road and loads of tourists were clapping us and taking videos. They didn't know what was going on at all. Fell into bed at 3 this morning. Absolutely great day.:)

I cant really remember how they based this but according to the Sunday Indo the Leinster winners will play the Ulster beaten finalists and the beaten Leinster finalists will play the Ulster champions in the All Ireland Quarters

feck that anyway, I was hoping Sligo would make it through to the quarters and give Dublin a handy draw

theres a Kerryman at work though who thinks that the two Ulster finalists will be knackered by the time they get to the quarters and will be there for the taking, maybe so maybe not

Who do you lot think will make it to the semis ?

I was on the hill for this one!! Savage game but Mossy Quinn needs to get the eary ones! He missed 4 kickable frees in a row and then hit those 2 great 45s which were far more difficult!! Great performance by Cullen and I thought O'Shaughnessy and Griffin were superb as was Casey and Cahill!! I think Wheelo needs to show up for a full 70 mins though or else we will pay against better sides

Armagh and Tyrone are both big strong sides but I still cant stand the "Surround him and beat him til he gives you the ball then knock it long to your full forwards" Football!! I think Dublin Kerry Laois and Mayo have better players than Armagh and Tyrone and have applied some of the northern tactics to their own styles which make it really exciting! Galway could be dark horses but I think the semis will be Dublin Kerry Armagh and Galway.

If the Leinster sides have to play the Ulster sides, then that's the end of that for Dublin and probably Laois. As for Dublin having better players than Armagh or Tyrone.....if you're impressed by funny hairdo's, white boots, soccer players and celebrities, then I'd agree with you...if you're talking about players who know what they're at as part of a championship winning team in Croke Park in August and September, then I'd have to disagree.

That was borne out a bit last year wasn't it, with the Fermanagh and Mayo victories. Teams have off days, no doubt about that - so anything is possible on a given day. Having said that, do I see the Ulster boys as 'there for the taking'?, no.

As another Kerryman, we haven't shown anything in this years championship yet. Victories over Limerick and Cork are nothing to sneeze at (these are not easy games by any stretch), but last year, as the year went on, we were putting teams away by huge margins, hopefully the timing is just as good this year. The fear is that we'll be caught cold by someone like a Derry or a Galway.

What every self-respecting Kerryman wants, is a crack at Armagh or Tyrone on the big day, hopefully we'll get that game.

Dublin shouldn't let their "Leinster" go to their heads and shouldn't listen to the "big upping" they are currently receiving from the mostly Dublin based media. I see it happen all the time and all it does is piss off the other 31 counties especially the ones who have more realistic hopes of lifting Sam this year and makes them up their game against the Dubs when they play us. Its a bit like the way the British media install England as favourites for every major football tournament they play in (much to our amusement) and all it does is heap pressure on the team. Pillar Caffrey will make sure they don't get big heads despite tosspots like Roy Curtis in the Sunday World writing back page articles about the amount of dosh Jayo could have earned so far had the sport been professional, on the day of the Leinster Final. They can do without garbage like that being written about them.

I do think they have a 50-50 chance of getting to the semis despite the fact that they'll have to beat either Armagh or Tyrone to get there ( even though I believe those two teams are better than Dublin are right now) I wouldn't mortgage my house to bet on it though thats for sure.

Still think Kerry will win it again

O'Shaughnessy plays for my local team. We feckin love him.

Ah your a Lucan man so!! I didnt notice him til the meath game and he has been the player of the championship for dublin so far!! Great defender always biting at the heels of his opponent!! This is probably the strongest fullback line I have seen dublin play since the win in 95

Yeah things tend to go to the head of the players but I cant see how people are so sure armagh are better than dublin! I mean armagh have an aging team who have done it before but for me their main weekness is Bellew and they can be exposed. Tyrone and kerry are favs in my view but dublin on their day with mossy quinn firing can beat anyone

Roy Curtis is a prick! He couldn't write objectively on any subject if he was paid.

..... Wait a minute, something wrong with that sentence. He couldn't give a neutral view on anything if his life depended on it. Mick McCarthy apparently was God's gift to Irish football and don't you dare criticise his management skills. As for GAA, All Curtis ever seems to do is find some obscure angle and blow it up to make headline news i.e. how much Sherlock would have made only for GAA. He was also the wanker who broke the story about the Roscommon players playing naked pool a few years ago. He never mentioned the fact that players revolt caused the dismissal of two managers there and the county board "somehow" managed to get laden with a €1.5 million debt.

He's also a jack of all trades and master of none, notice how he suddenly becomes the senior Rugby journalist prior to an Ireland game but rarely writes about it any other week, notice how last weekend he had the whole six back pages to himself to "write" about the Leinster final and in particular Dublin who are the biggest draw in GAA yet this weekend theres not a peep out of him as presumably the Hurling isn't big enough for his high profile taste..............he's not too shy either with placing his Mugshot all over his articles and whats with the flowery analagies in every sentense he "writes" ?

Dublin would have been crushed out there today.

its gas, the one year we sneak into the All-Ireland quarters without a major media hullaballoo, the one constant voice of reason, none other than Pat Spillane, suggests that Dublin's "fighting team spirit" could take them all the way

who'd have thought it

I certainly dont buy it

Pat's being an eejit.

Dublin are a different proposition this year, but let's be realistic. Laois are flowery and almost topped them. Dublin have neither the experience, the wit nor the muscle to put with either Tyrone or Armagh, nor Kerry if it came to it.

Aren't they playing Tyrone? The only hope they have is that Tyrone are gone, Mickey Harte is a born again or something isn't he? I don't trust them lads as far as I can throw them. They have 'faith'. That's worse than drugs. I'd be up for Dublin against them, unless we get a chance to do them ourselves.

so you don't

14 matches unbeaten ( Ulster champs again) , they deserve another all-Ireland

I dunno I just dislike them and their tactics. I dislike that they reduce football to rugby without rules. What happened to Canavan after he put in one high tackle was a disgrace. I mean Canavan should have been booked and the person who dragged him around and pulled off his jersey should have been booked but just sending off Canavan was totally wrong! They shot the wrong Michael Collins!! He was absolutely rubbish! As for his sending off of O'Neill! He read his notes wrong!! FFS was he writing a novel on the park!! A dull dreary day in croker where a boring brawl is going the way of Tyrone!! Lets liven things up a little!!

O'Neill for Tyrone looked awesome on sunday and I cant see them being beaten again this year unless its by a mental ref! The standard of reffing has to improve. Tyrone for the all-Ireland

they'll be our opponents in the quarters should they beat Monaghan, I wouldn't rule out a shock though as regards Monaghan

Cavan have improved with every game but I think Mayo will have too much for them.
P.S. Am heading to Puck Fair this year but what date does it start?

Beats me. It's a week or two before the Rose of Tralee festival though....which is usually starts on the second last weekend in August.

Good craic in Killorglin - bring your best donkey.

As for the Cavan v. Mayo match...I just think that Mayo shot their bolt last year. Since the All-Ireland semi last year, they haven't put in a decent show against anyone worth a shite and there's no indication that they're about to start now. Too many white-booted, newly hairstyled soccer players masquerading as wannabe All-Stars for my liking. Beckham is a good player on his day, but it's all about him. If it's a sunny day and Cavan aren't too rough about it, then maybe, you'd never know....Kerry won't be overly afraid of whatever one of those two comes through.

You'd never know though.

the funny thing is that she now lives just 5 doors down from my office building, she was my second Kerry woman

Two Kerry women? There are fella's walking around Tralee with All-Ireland medals that didn't have to work as hard as that.

Both red cards handed to the Tyrone lads in the Ulster final have been rescinded!! Jesus I think we should make Mick Collins ref in his clown suit next time and instead of a whistle give him one of those honking horns!! :wenger:

Cork beat Sligo 3-13 to 1-11 to book a quarter final place

dont know the score in the Cavan Mayo game yet
