We made it through the first round unsurprisingly..............

Its started big time now

I personally think that Kerry are too canny for the likes of Armagh/Tyrone/Mayo

Kerry to retain Sam

Too early to tell, but you needn't look past ourselves, Tyrone, Armagh + one of the pack, possibly Mayo, but someone always exceeds expectations and goes on a run. Last year it was Fermanagh/Mayo.

Kerry will be favourites, and probably deservedly so, and I'm obviously siding with them. The talent is there, you won't assume the strength and fitness is intact, and most of all, the knowledge is there. And we have Gooch.

One game at a time for Dublin I reckon, today was easy.

I'll go for Kerry

No stumbles for the Kingdom yesterday, Tipperary are game, but it was never going to happen really. On to Limerick and although they took us to a replay last year (and should have won the first game really), I don't think they are as strong and we are stronger, so you'd have to say that realistically Kerry should have a few points over them. Then again, every team has a ropey match or two now and then, so Jacko will have to have them focused, which in fairness, he seems to do very well.

Westmeath have looked a shadow of the team that won the Leinster title last year and to be honest, it was no surprise to see them going down to Kildare - who looked fairly determined. Westmeath have a lot to do to get their act together for the qualifying series. Leinster looks like a Laois/Kildare/Dublin/Wexford fight, from those I'd go with Dublin/Wexford and if really pushed, with Dublin.

I was raised on the Carlow border and know a lot of Carlow men and they've been going on for yrs about how they're catching up.
They have their excuses in early for this one as they reckon they're becomming a hurling county and were becomming a Footballing one.

Im just hoping wexford are still in something by mid July so i can get to a few games.

I hope you all get the same enjoyment out of this summer as I did last year.

I'll see you in 2006

RIP Leinster Champions

hard luck, the old element of surprise went with the winning of Leinster last year

Roscommon will be the dark horse of this years championship and will win the moral victory through their defeat in the second round of the qualifiers. Its a toss up between Armagh and Kerry

Today is the first really big match of the football championship - only today do I feel that it's started really. I reckon Dublin will roll them over, but would like the comedy value of a Meath win.

The big derby today, Wexford v Carlow, have to get the auld RTÉ radio concection out of retirement for that one.

Carlow 2:10
Wexford 3:12,

jaysus, they ran us close!

Setanta:

"Wexford claimed their Bank of Ireland Leinster SFC semi-final spot but they had to withstand a huge second-half challenge from 14-man Carlow before emerging with a 3-12 to 2-10 victory in this Croke Park semi-final.

Carlow, trailing by four points at the interval, hauled themselves right back into the game through a 42nd-minute goal from a Simon Rea penalty. A Rea free had the sides level, 3-7 to 2-10, after 56 minutes, but it was three Mattie Forde points in the closing minutes that sealed the Model County victory.

After the opening 16 minutes one was left with the inescapable fact that this was going to be a runaway victory for Wexford, as they had raced into a 3-2 to 0-4 lead despite playing into the breeze.

Wexford's opening goal arrived as early as the 4th minute when poor defending allowed midfielder through and he easily beat 'keeper John Brennan. Carlow clawed their way back with points from Simon Rea and Brian Carberry, but dreadful defending once again let them down as PJ Banville and Mattie Forde struck for goals after 11 and 16 minutes.

Carlow then hit a decent passage of play with a fine run from Mark Carpenter ending in a 21st minute goal but they still trailed 3-5 to 1-7 at the interval, with their left half back Richard Sinnott been sent off on a double yellow card one minute into additional time.

SCORERS:

Wexford - M Forde 1-6 (2f), D Fogarty 1-1, PJ Banville 1-0, S Cullen, R Barry, D Kinsella, D Breen, P Colfer 0-1.

Carlow - S Rea 1-5 (1-0p, 4f), M Carpenter 1-0, P Hickey 0-3f, T Walsh, B Carberry 0-1.

BOOKED: P Wallace, D Fogarty, P Curtis (Wexford), P Walsh, R Sinnott 2 (Carlow).

SENT OFF: R Sinnott (Carlow)."

sorry to disappoint you mate

we did roll them over, only in general play and not on the scoreboard hence the nailbiting climax. Dublin could have easily won it by 4 or 5 more points but yet again their lack of a big game free taker could nearly have cost them the victory. I'm glad the manager seen right and substituted Quinn who was having a real mare with the dead ball as in doing so he might have unearthed a gem with the dead ball in Mark Vaughan who knocked one over from 58 metres and then pointed a nerve racking crucial insurance point in the last couple of minutes.

Plus points for Dublin were the displays in defence by newcomer O'Shaughnessy and at centre half by Cahill. Midfield easily won their battle
and young Alan Brogan was superb, easily the best forward on display.

Dublin still have plenty of work to do and their age old problem of turning possession into scores still haunts them. Right now they are no match for the big guns like Kerry, Armagh, Tyrone, Mayo and Loch Gorman ;)
A sustained run in the championship will improve their mettle as a team but I think its far too soon for us Dublin fans to be thinking of Sam. Maybe in another year or two if the present team stay together and put some miles on the clock

I'll watch it tonight.....listening to Newstalk there tonight (Oisin Langan is a bit of a halfwit all the same), fans texting in with All-Ireland this and All-Ireland that.....some things never change.

Just watched Wexford, Mattie Forde is some animal.

I was at the Derry & Offaly games last last yr and he was amazing all right, nice to hear hes in top form again but i thought they'd finish off Carlow a bit easier than that tbh.

How did a Kerry player end up being born in Wexford though?

This can't be swept under the carpet.

they're cute hoors down there

Couple of nice ones there, but I suppose Croke Park will be the centre of attention. I'll go for Dublin, but I want Wexford to win, and Forde to have a blinder, because he's a brilliant player.

As for us, well, it's easy to take Limerick lightly, but they came closest to beating us last year. In fact that may have been a wake up call for our lads, after that game, we pretty much smacked everyone else out of sight. We haven't had a bad game in a while, but they do come along. Jack is brilliant at geting them right on the day though, and even if we are without Gooch, you'd still say Kerry to win.....but you never know with these things.

I reckon Armagh will do Donegal

Absolutely. They need to be on top form though and take their scores as they come. Dublin will start and finish at 100mph I reckon, Wexford need to match them physically around then, disrupt the momentum, gauge the freetaker and be ruthless about picking off the points when Dublin begin to settle down after their bursts. Dublin work best when they get a bit of momentum going, Whelan starts striding through the midfield and the forwards start to show early and turn - Wexford need to disrupt that. Cluxton may drop clangers, but he is usually a decent shotstopper and a cut above the usual, so taking the points will be vital for Wexford.

It would be some result for Wexford to beat dublin in football, in Croke park. Do they have a chance?

they're favourites mate although don't rule out the shock of seeing Dublin and Limerick advance ;)

Just seen the Dublin team on RTE's website, good news is that they have retained Vaughan who will start and should help with the free taking situation.
Bad news for Dublin fans though is that instead of dropping the woeful Colly Moran the Pillar has decided to drop Jayo to make way for Vaughan. Crazy, every Dublin fan I know thinks that Moran is a showboating waste of space, at least with Sherlock you always have a goal threat, Moran's "look at me I'm great" attitude gets right up peoples noses. Rant over.

Unimpressive Dublin edge past Wexford

Hooch goals Kingdom to victory over Limerick after poor team display in first half

Laois destroy Kildare

Mayo beat Roscommon

Cavan hold Tyrone in thriller

Armagh dump Donegal

I'm happy, we had our dodgy game, I just knew we would - Limerick are a quality side on their day, not many will want them in the qualifiers. Thank God for Gooch.

I'll tell you what Nialler, that Ciaran Whelan would want to get a grip of himself. Aggression is all well and good, but he's acting like a spastic everytime he runs out on the pitch.

Colm O'Rourke really hates him doesent he. He could very well have been sent off in the first 10 seconds against Meath but stayed on to the refs credit, common sense prevailed for once. He can't argue with the sending off yesterday and hasn't really been punished as he will be eligible for the Leinster Final.

O'Rourke is a bitter cnut when it comes to the Dubs

jaysus lads, that was a bit of an aul' slog in the heat......still, Munster Cup back in Ciarrai.

I think the other counties should take a long look at The Sunday Game tonight, that's as many wides as we're ever likely to hit.

Not impressed with the Munster campaign generally, but a good tough workout nonetheless, time to put the heads down now until September. It's shit hard to win back to back All-Ireland's these days, and we have plenty to be getting on with in training over the next few weeks.

I was hoping to watch the Sunday Game not knowing the score in the Kerry/Cork game but the opening segment of the poxy RTE News at 9.00pm gave the victors away, I'll probably still watch

Was it a good game and did yis win by much ?

No and no.

Too hot for football to be honest, Gooch is like a rasher tonight I'd say. Decky Sulls goal (which was a nice one..)is what did it, it was a slog, and our forwards have a severe off day, some of the misses were comical. There was a bit of off the ball shenanigans as well, punches, digs, the usual - Cork had one or two fouls that may have been punished a bit more, but so did we in fairness..

The only thing you could take away from today is that we're fitter than Cork....if you take it as given that we're better footballers like...

Ulster Final is where it's at for telly viewing purposes....

yis still won but I wonder did Cork flatter to deceive and will they have an impact on the qualifiers ?
