Gundogan has had the vaseline ready for the likes of Bayern and Barca but has never seemed that keen on Utd apart from using us to get a better deal from another club and basically only wanting us if 4 other clubs say NO first. I say we tell him and his tub of vaseline where to go and sign players of equal brilliance to sign for us instead such as Krychowiak and Schneiderlin, players who would be honored to wear the jerser and we are sorted in that department then for a very long time

He might prefer plain old spit anyway, how do you know?

There's a worrying trend of people believing everything they read recently.

Seems like he will stay, even a new contract is now possible. Seems like no one wanted to take the risk and sign him.

No. No. No. He had a good talk with the coach and has been convinced by his arguments.

Wonder when Sterling and Rodgers will have the talk.

After watching Pereira this season and at the U20's I don't want another deep play maker. It's time he got a chance.
Is Pereira a deep playmaker? I always thought he was very attack minded, and can play on the wing or as a #10...

At this moment he can go either way, seems to play a more attacking role atm, but he can develop into a deep playmaker. Its where he seemed to play on his 2 United games this season

He has played deep in the past. He's talented enough to excel in several positions.

Does he have the defensive capabilities to play as a deep midfielder? Or will he need a player like Schneiderlin next to him, do you reckon?

In saying that, Gundogan never came across as decent at defending.

Well he doesnt shun the defensive aspect of the game and is tenacious in the tackle, he wouldn't be able to sit deep on his own though.

Seemed like he was sniffing around everywhere he could to me. Just think nobody wanted to pay tubby the huge wage he wanted

Dortmund isn't exactly the club you join for the money though. The journalist also claims that his sources told him that an internal disagreement between Sammer and Reschke vs Rummenigge might have caused Bayern's interest to cool off, as well as Gündogan's unwillingness to leave Dortmund on a free transfer next summer.

Obviously claiming that Tuchel suddenly changed his mind seems pretty thin as an explanation, but so does the assumption that they are simply looking for the highest bidder.

I never said he joined Dortmund for money, more the clubs he wanted to join this summer. SportsWitness mentioned how his father and uncle were very willing for a move to Barcelona to get a hefty sign-on bonus.

Again, I don't think Dortmund are looking to sell as high as they can, I think Ilkay was looking to do so. He wasn't able to, perhaps, and as a result may actually sign an extension and get back to a previous level before attempting a move.

All this journo BS can get sooooo tiring. Gun Dog may end up being our transfer saga implosion of this summer.
Is it me or has it all started earlier than normal this year?

My gut feeling is that if we offered him a contract or discussed terms, it was heavily weighted towards performance conditions. i.e. a lower basic than he wanted but large bonuses for playing time. This would be the smart move given the question marks over his long term fitness. I imagine Barca and whoever else were rumoured to be interested, wanted the same sort of deal which had pay as you play weighting. In general player contracts are headed more and more in this direction anyway.

If he ends up resigning with Dortmund, he's going to have some egg on his face to be honest. They were very good to him throughout his long lay off, but he clearly wanted to leave as soon as he was fit. The fact his potential suitors haven't met his demands and he's now likely to stay, well...I'm not sure how I'd feel about that as a Dortmund fan.

if he really ends up staying at dortmund, i'll laugh bitterly for at least several seconds. plus it would somewhat make me lose the last bit of naive confidence in dortmund's managing department that i had been able to maintain. i mean i'd even be somewhat content if gündogan in fact signed a new contract, even though he seemed to toy with the club and its supernice guys in charge, but then why wouldn't he. it has no negative consequences anyway. or how about he does leave the club this summer and then they get him back in 2017 after two mediocre, underwhelming seasons at some big name club. :wenger:

If anyone loses face in this it will be Gündogan and not Dortmund. They've kept their position, they always wanted a contract extension, so the one who changes his mind will be Gündogan alone. And what's that last sentence about? Sahin has been quite good since he returned and, especially since DLPs aren't exactly easy to come by. Kagawa has had his up and downs but his form has been on the rise in the second half of the season, certainly not a terrible signing for the €8m.
If you want to give Zorc and Watzke shit it should be over Lewandowski's succession, which didn't work out at all despite them having more than a year to prepare, or the sigining of Kampl, who thus far hasn't delivered at all.

If Dortmund manages to keep all of Hummels, Gündogan and Reus after the season they had and after losing Klopp, the management should be applauded. feck sentimentality, that would be a fantastic sign for the future and if Tuchel justifies the hype around him, they'll be significantly stronger than last year even if they don't sign any new players.

Still think this will be confirmed out of the blue. Sky reported it was nearly done so there must be something in it.

I certainly hope so, if we get in Schneiderlin and Gundogan (and a CB!) this would be our best transfer window ever...not to mention the midfield options that LVG will have next season

Still think we need a striker.

With Herrera that could be a stable midfield for 5 years at least.

Schneiderlin, Gundogan and Herrera is a midfield that is capable of winning it all. It will certainly be different from seeing Anderson and Clev stink up the CM.

Mate Gundogan of today isnt the same player you elude to.......I love the guy but that midfield wouldnt necessarily dominate at all.

Just getting a proper CDM like Schneiderlin in the side would be transformative enough...since Keane left we haven't had anyone who could effectively screen the back 4 and enable the other midfielders to be creative .
Gundogan v 2015 may not be as effective as Gundogan v 2013 but he is exactly what he need in the CM.

Add on to your list - an extra CB, an RB (with Tony as back up) & 1 or 2 strikers (Falcao's gone - was shit anyway & RvP might be gone too) & we're sorted

It's far too early to write him off, he's played half a season after a serious injury, he's not going to immediately return to his best. At around £20mil I still think it's worth the risk, even if he never improves on the player he is now, it would still be a shrewd purchase in my books, it just all comes down to wages.
