Óliver Torres - Another Spanish Midfield Maestro

There is plenty of room for Torres at Barca. I think Madrid will offload Modric soon enough and will probably take a look at him too.

Like Invictus said Barca tends to prefer midfielders from La Masia. And Oliver is a Atletico product so Real might be a no go. Plus Atletico showed last season they can compete with the two giants so if they have to sell they would probably prefer to sell abroad. Nothing to it right now though since Atletico are going to want to give him a chance in the first team before they think of selling.

What about his defensive abilities?
He's very aware of the correct positioning when defending. Also, he has shown an interesting ability to press high up on the pitch, but his lack of strength is an issue he would have to work on if he is to play in Simeone's system or in the Premier League.
He does keep possession and protect the ball very well, and he is a master at clearing the oponents first line of pressure, but defensively he can't fill Tiago's, Gabi's or Suarez's role. Ideally, Oliver would either play as a free rola CAM in a 4-2-3-1 or as the creative man in a classic 4-3-3 midfield, much like Invictus suggested.

I can't see how he'd fit into Simeone's set-up in truth, unless he rotated with Griezmann in the free role behind the #9, as he has nothing in common with the type of players Simeone seems to like as his CM's and he's not a wide player.

Griezmann seemingly had nothing with the Simeone type players too when he was signed, he struggled at the beginning but all the physical work paid off finally and now he's their best player. If Simeone has real plans for Torres, he'll fit him in his system and he'll make him work hard for it.

In the case of Griezmann though he is a forward, he certainly had to learn to press and track harder, but in the case of Oliver he's likely competing for a spot across the midfield 4 as being Griezmann's back-up is not going to be a great way to develop. As @Aboutreika18 says he could be molded into Turan's successor I guess, but @Invictus makes a valid point about how charging him with defensive work might ruin his natural game.

In the end it'll be down to how Simeone think he can change and adapt this player to his style and team. I don't know if he'll be a great fit but I can see it happening. Maybe replacing Koke's current who will himself be more central ?

Torres, tello, casemiro... All on loan
Hats off to the director of football or whoever else sorts out their transfer business
In fairness they are a pretty attractive proposition for players who are not getting game time at other clubs and for clubs who want their players to develop at the very best place without loaning them to a direct rival

Out of interest could torres play against athletico in the European cup should both sides progress?

There is no way he is moving to England, let alone Manchester. We can dream all we want but we wont get him. He is going to sign a long term contract at Athletico. They are putting together a nice team and he is their future in midfield alongside Koke.

He's not really what we need right now. What the midfield needs the most is a defensive midfield cover for Carrick and Blind.
He would be going against Di María, Herrera, Mata, Fellaini. So while he has potential, he isn't exactly a jump of quality.
Casemiro would be the player to grab from Porto's midfield. Madrid already have Kross in that spot, so it's not like they need Casemiro.

I think he is the natural Carrick successor. He'd fit right in - very good under pressure, eye for the pass, very quick feed can keep possession.

Torres --- Blind/Fellaini -- Herrera

Mata --- Rooney -- Di Maria

Looks very good and balanced.

I definitely think Koke is on the verge of being used central on a regular basis by Simeone, but either of the wide roles in the midfield 4 risk chaining Oliver's talent I think.

Reports are Isco could be off this summer as he isn't happy with the current situation. I would be extremely gutted if this were true. If I could tie down any player for the next 5 years, it would be him. Including all the world record transfers we've made in recent years. That's how much I rate him.

He would have had a much better career at Barca I think, his style fits them much better.

He would have been the ideal heir to Iniesta for Barca I think. I saw an article last night saying Isco might be off but thought it was just bullshit, the two clubs linked were City and Arsenal.

I actually heard some linking Isco to us. He's supposedly a Barca fan anyway but going directly from Madrid to us is near impossible.

As for Oliver Torres, he'll spend at least 2 years at Atletico. I'd like to see him there under Simeone and alongside Koke. Oliver again is supposedly a fan of us, with all those tweets about us, but it will be hard to see him wearing Blaugrana anytime soon. He's the most hyped youngster in Spain and Atleti will not let him go until they get at least a taste of him.

if Isco is available we need to be all over that!

literally nothing in here to warrant a transfer discussion, not to mention the thread is two years old. Create a thread in the FF if you want to talk about him.
