Álvaro Morata | Performances

Its mental. Something happened to him about a third or so into the year where his performances dropped. Happened around the same time as Chelsea hit a rough patch with people questioning Conte's job etc.
A third? Try like 6 weeks.
His whole season, his entire goals per minutes revolves around 6 weeks of football. Its tragic how average he is.
Maybe if he toughened up he could become some kind of tatget man that is of some use. Instead he's an erratic "technical" footballer who isn't all that technical.

His goals per minute in the league however is identical to Lukaku - and that's with him having a poor season. Lukaku has had a better year because of his over all play and goals in the CL. I'd wait another year before triumphantly declaring one as better than the other.

This whole discussion from the beginning of this thread has been underpinned by you making wrong assumptions about my views and arguing against your own assumptions. I am not triumphantly declaring Lukaku the better player. I think Morata is probably better.

I'm just saying the thread was started because Morata has mental issues which make you wonder how he'll deal with being the main striker for the first time. The simple reality is he didn't do that very well. Lukaku did about as well as expected be because he doesn't have those same mentality issues, which is why mangers haven't been afraid to make him the main striker.

If Morata overcomes that then he could well be a top striker. But all the evidence until this point suggests that even once he gets to thar point, he's more likely to be peak Fernando Morientes rather than peak Fernando Torres.

He didn't set the world on fire there either.
He didn´t have incredible numbers but I would say that they appreciate him a lot, although being so cheap and playing those good Champions performances is normal. We'll see what they think now when they have to pay 70 or 80 million ...

Normally the players who leave Madrid are mentally prepared . Here he was required to score coming from the bench and still the press and fans were quite indifferent. Maybe affected him to be suddenly the protagonist

Dropped by the manager in the biggest match of Chelsea's season. Sums up his performance for them nicely.

Giroud is simply a better striker IMO. Its not a surprise.
At least his goals per minute ratio won't take a hit

All in all, he's been a terrible signing for them. Wonder who they go for in the summer?

He is a lot like di Maria was for us, sulky attitude with no fight. Chelsea should be smart in cashing on him just like we did for di Maria.

Thank feck we didn't get him.

Thank feck we did get Lukaku.

LOL at the excuses for him in this thread.

This is Morata as a player period, watch him regularly at his previous clubs and he always struggled with getting a hold of the game and needed someone alongside him to play at a good level.

If Hazard leaves Chelsea then Morata is done for at Chelsea, Giroud is better as a lone striker.

That Arsenal game last season was mental stuff. He missed 3 mega chances.

To think they gave up Costa for him

Not sure they had much choice though, didn't Costa want out anyway? Still, could've done a better job replacing him.

I don't see where he'll end from there. This movement pretty much fecked him up. He was hidden on Madrid bench but his level is exposed for everyone now.

Sadly he's turned out to be even worse than Lukaku

Sadly...how come?

I'm not convinced personally. I think Lukaku's probably able to play well under more difficult conditions, but in the right condition Morata might be a bit better. Neither ever looked like elite forwards IMO.

Well Lukaku has definitely turned out to be better but the sad part is that neither player has been close to adequate for their clubs given the amount of money they paid for them. All of this is obviously juxtaposed against the reality that a player Mourinho casually discarded at Chelsea just scored more than what Lukaku and Morata scored combined last year; and he did it on behalf of our biggest rival, while leading them to the CL final. Someone, somewhere is making bad decisions.

Salah scoring unbelievably high numbers doesn't suddenly make Lukaku not worth the fee. The value of Salah post last seasons hype would be double what we paid for Lukaku anyway.

Lukaku is definitely not worth what we paid for him. Not even close.
