That will be a good strikeforce.Wonder if this accelerates Costa's exit. We also may be bringing in another Spanish striker in Llorente.

Can anyone remember what our offered price was? I think it was something like 70m + 10m in add-ons Euros?

Our was 75 m euros total including addones
So something like 65+10? Bah, Real were just dicking around with us. Nonsense from Perez as per usual. Still had some hope that we might pull off the deal ourselves, especially since EVERYONE on the market is massively overpriced.
I can agree with this from our perspective as well. I feel Belotti is/was the best choice for Chelsea ahead of Lukaku or Morata.Inevitable ending once we signed Lukaku. I would have preferred Morata, but neither were a really outstanding choice in my opinion, both came with concerns - so not regretting massively.
I almost feel that we couldn't get Morata without losing DDG. In isolation, I would've picked Morata over Lukaku. However the choice of: Morata + cash in the back or DDG and Lukaku, second option every time.
Let's hope he turns out like Di Maria did for us.Aye, I imagine this thread will be bumped at a rate the Danny Welbeck thread can only dream of.
Anyway... I hope the weather in London is proper shit for the next year

They may have wanted more from us than they did from Chelsea. Once we passed on Morata, Chelsea were pretty much the only realistic option and Madrid would've forfeited making any money at all if they didn't lower the price.

It's a strange situation tbh, Morata is a more of traditional United forward imo while Lukaku is more of a traditional Chelsea forward but both players ended in the opposite directions.
But then I remember we have Jose so anything who was traditional to Chelsea before is now applicable to us.
Any chance Jose rings up Ed to tell him to match the Chelsea offer? Would be hilarious. Can't believe Ed will let the no.7 shirt go empty for another season, especially with the marketing potential behind it.
We will need a player who'll build up now from the middle and it will be griezmann
Didn't we pull out of the Morata deal and used it as a smokescreen to get Lukaku on the quiet leaving Chelsea unawares.
If that is the case then why is everyone peeved off with Real, also we have IMO a better and proven PL goalscorer and more importantly it will bring out the best out of Pogba.
Yep given the similar prices being quoted I think we made a call and went with Lukaku. Both strikers will be good but Mourinho wants Lukaku for his system.Didn't we pull out of the Morata deal and used it as a smokescreen to get Lukaku on the quiet leaving Chelsea unawares.

Because Mourinho said that we were after him. The smokescreens are in people's heads.

Lukaku said he knew he was coming to us ages ago, so we definitely wanted Morata as well. Although at the back of my mind they could have been a fallback option for each other, because we supposedly wanted Griezmann as well. I was actually hoping for all three to blow teams out of the water. Bugger defending.

Throw in a years supply of red hair dye as well. The Morata rumours really only started up after Griezmann decided to stay though, so it seemed more to me that Morata was our back-up "no.7" so to speak. Come on Ed, throw in a matching bid, we have the Griezmann money stashed away anyway.

Of course Jose is going to say that when asked a question about him. He can't very well say, "Well, we were really just fecking with Alvaro's head all along in order to needle Madrid and secretly undermine Chelsea's chase for Lukaku."Because Mourinho said that we were after him. The smokescreens are in people's heads.
