Did Valencia pick up an injury?

Think the article says that he hasn't traveled to away legs recently.
You guys should get the MUFC app. ;) Valencia is rested because of his knee injury and the artificial turf.

Mourinho also said Dalot might make his debut, but I'm guessing he'll come on at the end for Young if we're strolling. Could be Dalot's first step towards dethroning Valencia, just need a MOTM performance against Derby and exciting times are ahead!

    Expecting this now :

    DDG
    Dalot - Smalling - Lindelof - Shaw
    Fred - Matic - Pogba
    Lingard - Lukaku - Rashford

Should be good enough to grab a win.

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Lindelof Shaw
    Matic Fred
    Rashford Pogba Sanchez
    Lukaku

They will obviously sit back and defend so we need Fred's creativity in midfield more than the physical presence of Fellaini.
You never know. They might decide to turn up and play the game of their lives.

    On the plane

The following players were seen at Manchester Airport:

Goalkeepers (3): David de Gea, Sergio Romero, Lee Grant
Defenders (7): Ashley Young, Chris Smalling, Luke Shaw, Eric Bailly, Diogo Dalot, Matteo Darmian, Victor Lindelof
Midfielders (7): Paul Pogba, Marouane Fellaini, Ander Herrera, Andreas Pereira, Fred, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic
Forwards (5): Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Alexis Sanchez

Mourinho has said in the press conference that Rashford will be starting:

"He's selected for the game. But I just want to remind you, in advance, that we can only start with XI. So when tomorrow you see the team you could try to speak about the ones that are going to play and don't critique the ones that are not going to play.

"So we have Lukaku, Rashford, Mata, Alexis, Martial and they can not play all together. So try to be a little bit happy with the ones that are playing and not to be greedy with the ones that are not playing."

    Is Herrera fit?
    Yep.

I think the starting XI will be:

    De Gea

    Young Lindelof Smalling Shaw
    Matic
    Fred Pogba
    Rashford Lukaku Sanchez

Bench: Romero, Dalot, Bailly, Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Martial

Dalot might get a few minutes off the bench but I'd be surprised if he started this one.

It's on a 3g pitch, get l the ball players out: Mata, Fred, Andreas, Alexis, Poggy, Martial. Rest Lukaku

We know the fullbacks will be changed but I think he might keep the CB partnership in tact. Matic and Rashford will play because neither can play at the weekend and I think Fred will get a game. I'm totally guessing on Martial, I think weaker opposition offers Mourinho the chance to play a popularity card and select him, resting his two workhorse wide forwards for the weekend, of course Mata could start but he seems on the periphery right now.

Im assuming Fred has come across artificial pitches during his time in Ukraine?

For me, Jose's biggest sin last season was the approach in the Sevilla tie. Redemption on that front starts here. A good, decisive win would go a long way in instilling confidence in the players and the fans, just what we need to kick on and go on a run.

Jose never rotates much. Expect to see Matic start this one especially as he can't play the next league game.

Agree - I;'d expect Jose to start Matic.

I'd also expect to see Smalling/Lindelof stay at CB - we desperately need consistency there.

Valencia wont play, and I don't think Dalot is ready so Young at RB for me.

Logically Rashford should feature due to suspension, but this is Jose. probably play Mata

    Very informative post, thank you.

They do pose a threat it seems and I agree with others on here that we should not treat it like it like an easy league cup game. Best we go for as strong a team as possible and only rotate those with injury niggles.

    My preferred line-up would be:

    De Gea

    Valencia, Smalling, Lindelof, Young

    Fred, Matic, Pogba

    Rashford, Lukaku, Sanchez

I'd have Shaw and Fellani and the bench due to the injury niggles from the international break, while Rashford gets the nod due to his domestic suspension after a good brace of games for England.

Part of me is also tempted to try another Def Mid instead of Matic, in prep for the weekend. Under that scenario, I'd move Matic to CB instead of Lindelof and bring Perreira or Mctom into midfield

Valencia wont be played - confirmed by Jose due to the pitch.

We have an abundance of CB's without playing midfielders there.

Jose will go solid throughout - I'd expect Matic to start, Fellaini also. Smalling/Lindelof to remain.

Due to Valencia not playing and Dalot not quite being fit for a start, that leaves Young as our RB which means for me Shaw will play.

I'd like us to mix it up, get Periera/McTom involved but Jose is Jose, he wont tinker too much. Herrera/Mata likely to come off the bench

I generally do predictions based on my thoughts of the game and tactics.

Due to the pitch, I would play with more technical players.

    Rashford Sanchez Mata

    Fred Pogba Matic

    Shaw Lindelof Bailly Young

    De Gea

We have an abundence of CBs, but not many that are fit or in a level of form that Jose can trust. Of our 5 CBs, only Smalling is reliable, with two others being sick notes and the other two shakey

Personally, I'd like to see Bailley back in the team, but I'm unsure of his partnership with Smalling. Is there enough passing ability there, or would be hindered when trying to start attacks from the back?

Mourinho saying that Valencia will not play to due to the artificial pitch and Shaw will play, so I'm guessing Young at RB. Matic and Rashford maybe to start as they are both suspended in the PL. Lindelof and Smalling to start again unless Mourinho wants to give Bailly a start. Probably go with a strong side I think as opposed to resting some bigger names as the chance to start off with a win here is high if United turn up, expecting Pogba and Lukaku to start.

Im assuming Fred has come across artificial pitches during his time in Ukraine?
Yeah, there are both artificial and hybrid pitches here in the Ukraine. As I understand the one in Bern is artificial; seems a ltb weird, one would think that a Swiss team could afford a hybrid pitch:

Last loss at home was November 2017. Players like Pogba need to turn up and focus.

Since November 2017, they have not faced anyone anywhere near the calibre of Manchester United (not basel, only beat United and city in meaningless games, got thrashed otherwise).

That fecking name... Put "YB vs Man Utd" in my Google calendar as I didn't want "young boys" in my history. :nervous:

Hoping to see Dalot play, preferably from the start! I was a lot more excited about his signing than about Fred during the summer. God willing, we will soon be spared from any more Valencia/Darmian performances!

Shocked Valencia and Lingard are left at home. This is a tricky fixture and the one we’ll need maximum points from. I was expecting us to take the CL very seriously given our start in the league – Not sure fatigue has been the issue with us so much as match fitness and cohesion. I like Fred and Periera but I don’t think it’s a coincidence we’ve looked better when the more familiar players came in. I’d be intrigued, excited and worried about Dalot starting all at once.

Sir, we have been looking at your browsing history and a red flag was raised for us investigate.
Apparently you like to watch Young Boys, in Wank dorf?

Almost guaranteed Young will start at RB and Dalot will be a sub.

Would be the right thing to do. Dalot may be an exciting talent, but this is a must win game as our group is pretty tight. Can't take many risks. Best send out Young first to get a feel of things and see how tough YB are. Then bring on Dalot after HT or so. He will anyway be getting plenty of sub appearances in the league as well from now on to stake a claim for a starting spot.

So do the fans of young boys find it strange? Do they realise how odd their club name sounds?.

Can you imagine 30,000 fans all singing "we love you young boys, we do"

This is an interesting way to look at the game/results. You are right - once the familiar names started appearing on our team sheet, the results have got better.

I really hope that United play with the right attitude and pace because the locals have been restless since the draw and are up for this one.

If Dalot has just got over a knee injury I doubt he would play on an artificial pitch in case he aggravates it again, so expecting Young at RB, Darmian seems to be right out of things just now.
