Really hoping we see a few youngsters given some minutes. I know the FA cup is our most likely source of silverware this season and as such should be taken seriously, but it's a League Two side we're playing, the kids really should be good enough playing alongside senior players. I mean we rarely even loan our youngsters to clubs of that level.

Plus the first team players might find it difficult to feel motivated for this game whereas the U23 players will be hungry to show what they can do. That being said I think Jose will be pragmatic and the starting XI will consist of senior players that haven't played much recently (Lindelöf, Herrera, Rashford etc. will probably start).

    Sanchez in the squad
Asked whether Alexis Sanchez is in the squad for Yeovil, Mourinho says: “Yeah.”

    Where will Alexis play?
Having previously worked in Italy, Spain and England at the same time as Alexis, Mourinho knows his new capture “very, very well”. “I saw him play on the right, on the left, as a striker and behind the striker, he said. “I saw him play in different tactical systems, I saw him successful in every country in every position. He becomes more than a player because of that multi-functionality. I say he can play in four different positions."

    Boss responds to Ronaldo rumour
Cristiano Ronaldo has again been linked with a return to United in some sections of the media. Jose said: "Real Madrid is a club I care about, so I am the last one to add [to the] fire. To put some water on the fire, I would say Cristiano is the kind of player that everyone wants, but only one manager can have and only one club can have – Zidane and Real Madrid. That's my feeling."

Sanchez will be important for us
Asked what Alexis will bring to his squad, the boss said: “He showed already the quality he has so we've got one of the best attacking players in the world. I think he'll be very important for us because we want to have the best possible players."

    Mourinho on Yeovil
    The manager says:

“We want to win, we know what cups are. United played I think a couple of years ago at Yeovil and they know the difficulties they felt, so we have to go with a very strong team.

“We are going to rest a couple of players, we have also a couple with little problems. We want to try to resolve to have them without problems for the next matches coming in Febuary, Premier League and also Champions League, but apart from that we go with a very strong team.”

Micki will be even better at Arsenal
On Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s move to Arsenal, Mourinho said: "I lost a fantastic player, Mr Wenger lost a fantastic player. I got a fantastic player, Mr Wenger got a fantastic player, so I think it was a great deal for everybody. I believe Micki is going to be even better [at Arsenal] than for us. Why? Because one-and-a-half years in the Premier League, adapted. Because of the way they play. That's why I'm also happy for him.”

    No Henrikh regrets
The boss continued: “Could he have performed better for us? Could I take more from his talent? Maybe. Could he also have given more to also try to adapt to us? Maybe. But I don't think regrets. In our history, he did important things for us, so a good feeling for everybody and a very specific transfer between two rivals in the same country is something that I want to say should happen more times."

    On Mkhitaryan
“I think was a fantastic deal and a fantastic deal is only fantastic if it is good for everybody. United and Arsenal made a fantastic deal, I lost a fantastic player, Mr Wenger lost a fantastic player, Alexis changed from a fantastic club to a giant club and Mkhi changed for a fantastic club, so was a great deal for everybody.

“I believe Mkhi is going to be even better than he was with us. With one and a half years in England, adapted, knows, Arsenal play the way they think, I think is a good move for everybody, that’s why I’m also happy for Mkhi.

“Could he perform better with us, could I take more from his talent, maybe, could he give a little more also to adapt to us, maybe but I don’t think regrets, he’s in our history, so good feeling for everybody and a very specific transfer between rivals in a big country which I have to say must happen more times.”

    Alexis increases competition
"This is life in big clubs,” the boss continued. “In big clubs, you have big players, competition and responsibilities – you have to try to go to every competition in a serious way. You cannot do that with 11 players, so the players at big clubs know that the squad is made of 20-something players where everybody wants to play and where there is space for everybody. Alexis is a very important addition for us. If the players are on the bench one day and they don't like it, I'm happy with that."

Could players leave now Sanchez has arrived?
On the subject of exits, Mourinho adds:

“This is life in big clubs. In big clubs you have big players, you have competition, you have responsibilities, you have to perform always, you have to try to go to every competition in a serious way, you cannot do that with 11 players, is impossible.

“So the players in big clubs know the squad is 20 something where everybody wants to play, what we cannot do is play 12 at the same time, start with 12 a certain match, but space for everybody and needed for everybody I think is absolutely fundamental and we want to improve all the time, do better and better and better.

“We want to achieve big things and will not stop until we do that. The evolution of the players is important, I’m really happy and have to say with some pride the evolution of Lingard, Martial, Scott McTominay, these kind of young guys but you also need a combination with Matic, Alexis, people with more experience, with more know how.

“That was before in positions where we want to be fighting for titles and so is very very important addition for us, now we have five attacking players of high quality, Mata, Rashford, Lukaku, Martial, Alexis and is fantastic for me and for the team. If the players one day are on the bench and don’t like it, I’m happy with that.”

We want to achieve big things
In a stirring declaration, Jose said: "We want to improve all the time, we want to be better and better. We want to achieve big things. We are not going to stop until we do that and the evolution of players is very important."

Guessing he counts lingard as a midfielder and not attacker by that^
    Think we'll play:
    Romero
    Darmian Lindelof Smalling Shaw
    Herrera Pogba
    Mata Sanchez Rashford
    Lukaku
Jones, Valencia, De Gea, matic, lingard and martial all rested.

When does the travelling squad generally come out?

You know that if Herrera starts we won’t dominate the midfield as he lacks the intelligence to impose himself and us, on a significantly weaker side.

    De Gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Shaw
    Matic Pogba
    Sanchez Mata Martial
    Lukaku

That’s the team I’d play. Full strength.

The bolded comment plus the PlayStation football (?) comment earlier in the season, shows (and I observed in some games) that the players can be pretty laidback (not professional enough) in their performances. Hope with the arrival of Sanchez, he would instill the positive (attacking) style of his game, if not his off field/training habits.

This is what we should go for because of players who need minutes, with Alexis interchanging with Mata and Lingard.
    Romero
    Young Lindelöf Rojo Shaw
    Herrera McTominay
    Alexis Mata Lingard
    Rashford
But Mourinho might opt for giving Alexis an understanding with Martial and Lukaku before Tottenham, and it's not like they don't have enough rest at the moment..

    Romero
    Young Lindelof Rojo Shaw
    Fellaini Herrera McTominay
    Lingard Rashford Sanchez

Subs: Pereira, Darmian, Smalling, Jones, Pogba, Martial, Lukaku

I'd like to see a few young names on the bench but I'm not hopeful. Guess we might see Smalling given his aerial prowess but it's a good chance for Lindelof and Rojo to get minutes, could be Lindelof at RB and Smalling and Rojo in the middle perhaps. McTominay's the only question mark in the front six given we haven't seen much of him recently. Wouldn't risk Pogba myself but I think Jose might.

Sanchez has to start for me. As someone said earlier in the thread he's not started a game for 16 days, he needs time to get up to speed if we want to start him against Spurs.

I'm thinking Mata won't be playing due to being in Davos recently.

I don't think he'll start but I think he'll replace Sanchez after 45-60 minutes. I don't see how a short trip to Davos will preclude him from participation in this game.

Really looking forward to Sanchez in a United jersey tonight. Watched a compilation of his goals last night and I still can't quite believe we pulled this off.

I believes Matic, Jones, Valencia and De Gea aren't travelling, per the MEN.

Actually, MEN has changed its tune now and all four are in the squad. What do I know

    Cheers.

Valencia, Jones, and Matic are the three I think are probably most important to rest. Hopefully we get a more whittled down squad list later.
