This. People tend to overrate the ability of a manager to get good results with average or below average players.
In their defence we offer no consistent supply. If they are in space on the edge of the area, we flash it across the face of goal. If they attack the goal we cut it back to the penalty spot. Most of the time we just turn around and pass it back to Onono or for lolz we let Dalot blast it over the bar from 30 yards out. We have a team that has somehow managed to master the art of looking like they just met each other 10 minutes ago every time they play.Maguire didn't even jump on that. Amorim was clear from day 1 he wasn't going to focus on quick results by playing against his type that'll have no effect long term, he's implementing his style regardless... by May, he'll know exactly who won't be up for it, which he wouldn't he if he just tailored the players instead until May.
Mainoo is the most overrated player to come through the academy that I can remember. He's a decent player but the way he was hyped up was never applicable to his ability. Further evidence of how far standards at the club have dropped that he was built up so much.
