Ole has to be playing James for the same reason Matuidi did with Pogba in CM, because Pogba cannot be trusted in CM on defensive transition when he gets forward.

accorging to BBC its 4231 with Pogba-Fred axis and Sancho left
Nobody really knows what is happening until we kick off and even then it can’t be easily represented by a static formation considering it will change depending on if we have the ball or if Wolves have it and how Wolves setup.

Writing down formations and then moaning about them is pretty daft if we are honest. They actually mean very little.

Sky showed the formation as Fred the lone holding player with Bruno and Pogba as a two ahead of him.

Can see that being the formation when we have the ball

VdB is not a holding midfielder, he's too similar to Fernandez, and Pogba arguably. We'd be much better off getting a proper defensive midfielder or a deep lying playmaker rather than play someone out of position.

Should have bought De Jong instead as a deep laying playmaker next to Fred
He's CM, not a CAM like Bruno. He's supposed to be playing in midfield.

Neither Donny nor Dan can match Traore's physicality, that's what we have AWB, Varane and Maguire for. Point is - by pulling Pogba back and moving Sancho to the left, Ole has undermined our goal-scoring. We need to score our goals, not obsess about Wolves as if we were the underdogs in this game

Let the game commence first before making these big statements.

I don't worry about James, he's no good offensively but always solid with his defensive duties. If plan A doesn't work, we need a goal then Cavani on for James, Mason back to the right wing.

Wow, the bitch8ng about James on here is mental

Not really. Wolves are a heavily defensive counter attacking team. What exactly will James offer?

And just to make the point....what could James do better than Dalot and Dalot can't get a start at all.

    Happy with that team.

Obviously it's a shame to move Pogba from wide left but, with no McTominay, that's the move I'd have preferred instead of Matic or the (unlikely) VdB options.

Attacking wise, I'd prefer Martial in for James. However, with Pogba CM instead of McFred or Matic, then I can see why we'd go for the more hard working, defensive minded James for balance.

What on earth are you blathering on about?

Why move Pogba from where he got 5 assists? How badly does Fred have to play to get dropped? Does Ole have neither the courage to play Van de Beek or the conviction to let him go?

Vin: Donny Van De Beek has a little over 24 hours to move on and save his career. Ole's treatment of him is absolutely brutal.

42 shots with no goals for wolves in 2 games.. these are the kind of stats that worry me when teams play against us. Ours are the games where oppositions turn their luck

    How is it poor?

Doesn't have the right mentality and always seems to lose his nerve when faced with few options. Runs his way into losing the ball etc. James would do very well in a team shooting for mid table or be kept as a squad player. It's pretty clear

The obsession this place has with DVB is absolutely bizarre. You'd think he'd been turning in 8,9 or 10 out of 10 performances when we've seen him instead of the 5s he's actually turned in.

I get people don't like Matic, Fred, McT, James etc etc but DVB has done no better than any of them.

DVB has never had a chance to get into this team. Matic, Fred and James have shown that they do not match the quality needed to fight with teams like City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Let's hope our now insane attack can carry us this season, because we will not see many CS.

Google showed James on the right wing and imo it makes senses. James has an incredible pace that would help a lot against Traore.

Well, it is clear why we didn't sell James. Ole just loves having him in squad. Every manager has one odd choice. James is his

If the wall is Adama Traore then yes.
That is some fecking wall, you savage. I really hope we don't see this today.

Can’t wait for the meltdown if James is on the right and Sancho on the left !

It's a good sign that OGS has put Pogba in the pivot now Varane is playing. I think it suggests he may be willing to play a bit more expansive football.

My only slight disappointment is James starting. Hope I'm wrong but I think he will have a poor or average game.

Yeah i agree. I keep saying it but imo Ole worries too much about the opposition, especially away from home, as opose to putting out a strong team and letting our opposition worry about us. We are Man Utd ffs.
But he's unbeaten away from home for 27 games or whatever it is, so what do i know.

You wrote that without being able to answer your own question?

Yeah. 2 or 3 - 0 down at half time wondering what the hell went wrong. A 2nd half come back with too little too late or just about scrap a draw out with their centre back giving a MOTM performance.

I can just see it now!

Once upon a time people on here moaned about Nani on our right wing. Now there's fans justifying Ole starting a winger that can barely play football.

The midfield is different but the main difference from last week are Varane at the back and James playing instead of Martial. Martial jogged around in the last game and you can be sure Greenwood & James will be working hard in this one. Now let's see the result.

Journalist for Dagbladet. Interviewed Ole quite a few times, likes to pretend he has more access than he actually has. He's a slightly more annoying version of Fjørtoft

Ah right... probably seen some of his "work", but not paid much attention to the name, never do that with journos :P

I like that team- apart from James, Christ only knows what Ole sees in him- but it's great to see Varane and Sancho starting a game before the international break.

There's nothing bizarre about it: we signed him for 40m so we'd rather like to see what he can do. All the others you mention got far more chances than he did.

People saying our CM is more open and exposed with Pogba.

While I get the point/hypothesis, did you watch last week? It really can't be more open than that. It can't have less control than that
