    Isn't that quite simple? Who do you want to paly alongside Fred? Matic should be in the ambassador role already, he's absolutely attrocious. Half arsed Pogba there is better, and we can fill in the attacking positions easier. That's why, however in an ideal world I'd never move Pogba from LAM in a form like this. Things will have even different dynamics when Rashford and Ronaldo come to the team, they will just have to play because they are world class, so is Pogba and even in a deeper role he had some superb games and run it from midfield, just need a bit more discipline from Fred and all collective effort to defend better. Varane will make things much tighter at the back too.

    So let's hope it gives Pogba some extra energy to put in more effort and not overcomplicate things because he will inevitably play for us from deep this season again. When in possession with all those incredible players making runs for him I think his passing range and vision will be utilised even at the expense of a little bit open midfield.

    If Varane and Sancho aren't starting then what have we bought them for??? Surely James won't be ahead of Sancho...
     
    If James starts and we don’t win Ole will need to have a serious word with himself, James is not our future, zero point giving him game time, Sancho should be ready by now and playing his way into the team,
     
    If that rumoured team is true than I really don’t know what to say.

    Ole has spent money on players he doesn’t want to use.
     
    James starting would seemingly indicate that Sancho's fitness isn't up to snuff yet. Highly disappointing if that is the case - he must have been very ill when he came in.

    Edit: Ha! Just seen the team sheet. All of the moaners in here whinging about Ole's conservative nature are going to do an about face.

    Matic has played a lot of very good games for us last season. Just because he had a bad first game(he always starts the season slow), I dont think he is atrocious. He is a okay squad player. Playing Pogba deeper is not the answer. Maybe in case of an injury crisis, sure. I would rather play VdB. And ideally buy a new CM.

    We have been doing this bullshit for years, telling ourselves Pogba as a CM experiment will work out. Play an attacking midfielder deeper, and hope he magically becomes a deep lying playmaker just because his passing is good. Didnt work with Gerrard, didnt work with Rooney, wont work with Pogba.

    The problem with Pogba playing deeper is not his defensive contribution. He never looks comfortable as a CM, he plays like an AM being told to play CM, because that's exactly what's happening. He tries to force passes, careless passing, cannot control the tempo of the game, tries to shield the ball under press from multiple players and loses it, etc. Problems he doesnt have playing further up. Not everyone is a Scholes, who moves deeper and looks natural doing it. Some are like Sneijder, who always remain an attacking player.

    Even if you play Pogba with two DM/CMs around him to compsensate for his defensive ability, with Pogba as the DLP, like Pirlo used to play, Pogba would still struggle, because playing Pogba so deep inside our half is a mistake waiting to happen. Just playing Pogba next to a DM and hoping things will work out is idiotic.
