It's hilarious how the rating of trophy change based on who the manager is
Fair enough my arguments make a lot of sense. Europa > fa cup. I will add that we needed the europa at the time to complete our trophy set and I like having the most fa cups record. Distance makes the heart fonder I guess and by what I wrote I believe I was arguing with an opposition fan.

Pogba is a midfielder, he's not a liability in the middle of the park. Bruno is also a midfielder, albeit the most advanced of the 3. You have a ball winner, a box to box and a 10 in that trio.

Your right, he is a midfielder but one that is more affective further up-field like Fernandez. From what I've read, nobody seems to be able to work out Pogba's best position though, personally, I think he should be allowed freedom of the pitch to find his own rythmn of the game. It's the reason Ole usually plays McFred two and Pogba higher up.

Sometimes you just have to take the loss.

Yes huge loss. I once said the europa is more important than the fa cup. Now I said the opposite. Upon further reflection my earlier position was the correct one. I'm glad a bunch of randoms find it hilarious. Doesn't change anything else I said.

I'm expecting the usual, play average against an average team, grab a goal at some point, easy win in the end. They won't threaten, they'll look like they're playing for a draw from the first whistle even though it's a final.

Watched them park the bus against Arsenal and they could have conceded a few still and didn't threaten on the counter enough to worry me. They're certainly not as good as the likes of Sevilla or Inter from recent years in the Europa League.

    -------------------------- Henderson--------------------------
    AWB--------Lindelof---------- Maguire --------Shaw
    --------------------------------VDB-------------------------------
    Greenwood-----Bruno-------Pogba-----Rashford
    ------------------------------Cavani----------------------------

I am going to stick my neck out here and say....Im not sure VDB will start this one

You've completely swivelled on your opinion on something purely because of the manager in charge. That's an agenda. It's clearly not a sudden organic appreciation for the FA Cup ffs.

I haven't completely swiveled. I just said my earlier position was the correct one. I offered a couple explanations if you don't buy it it's up to you. It's actually an interesting topic fa cup vs europa and I think some people might say the former. Anyways I appreciate roonster quoting me. Gave me a chance to go back and read what was an interesting discussion on how we judged mourinhos second year.

People really saying this is not a big competition? Wow! All the trophies are big and great to win!!

Football must be very dull for these people as apparently the only two trophies worth winning are the League and Champions League.

Huge game on Wednesday. Ole needs a trophy and it really could kick start the team and give them a taste of success. Predicting Cavani will be the game winner.

    This!

We aren't talking about winning the Emirates Cup here, this is a decent trophy.

I am buzzing for tomorrow. I have taken Thursday and Friday off work - let's hope I'm celebrating all week.

    Give it a rest.

Like it or not we are in the Europa and I’m excited for Ole to potentially win his first bit of silverware. A trophy is a trophy.

I couldn’t care less what credit any other fans want to give.

I won't celebrate winning until I know what Liverpool fans, Chelsea fans, and Manchester City's fan thinks.

You can't enjoy your teams improvements or positive stats if you didn't win the league or CL either.

I do wonder how anyone supports any team other than City with that line of thinking.

The UEFA Cup was always a desirable trophy with a lot of history behind it. It's been devalued by the structure of the European competitions these days, and the prominence of the Champions League, but it's still one of the biggest prizes we can win in club football.

Winning the EL is second only to the CL in terms of prestige. The fact that winning the competition awards a place in the next CL, regardless of where you finished in your domestic league, speaks volumes in itself.

Besides, claiming the EL could be just the boost Ole and his side need going into next season. We want to win this desperately, and I think we will.

I'd put it below winning the Premier League, but it's still a major trophy and I agree with everything else you say. Let's do this!

I never said it's not a European trophy or it doesn't have history behind it. It's below the fa cup and above the league cup in terms of importance for me put it that way.
For you, and that’s where it ends.

It’s a European trophy that all the English and Scottish clubs desperately wanted to do well in. A Europa League trophy trumps the FA or League Cup; it has far more global clout.

Who cares about how good a trophy it is, we have a chance to win it and that's all that matters. This club should aim to win every competition that we're in.

Start of the season I was pissed that we were in it, but we got ourselves into it and Ole has taken it seriously, so we have to win it.

I rate it higher than FA cup but I think FA cup is harder to get. You have to beat the best PL teams. In EL we only met some second tier Spanish and Italian clubs. But I would be happier with EL trophy.

Just watched MUTV's interview with Terry Gibson. He said they are a good technical side, very technical players who can keep the ball well -- and in fact were beating RM until the last few mins in their last match of the season.

Not a team to be under-estimated. If they get the 1st goal then we are in trouble. They will defend well, keep the ball well and its up to us to break them down.

I watched their game against Real Madrid.

They were well organised to a point, they did concede two late goals in the end. They defended deep and I thought they were quite weak dealing with crosses. Definitely not an easy game but one we should be winning. We should go wide when we can, they will pack the centre of the pitch.

Damn.. Ole would think a 2nd half FC tactic now.

I think since they started to give the winners of it a CL place and top seeding, it has grown in importance. The quality of the teams competing for it have improved too, with the English clubs taking it much more seriously once they get past the group stages. With the Conference League, we should see a much more competitive group stage now as well.

Fair play to UEFA, I thought the Conference League was a horrible idea, but developing this third tier of competition ensures that there's a level playing field across every level of European competition and overall, a stronger EL.

Yes I agree it trumps the fa cup. My earlier post was a mistake as I've admitted.

I'd actually disagree with that. The Cup Winner's Cup was more important than the UEFA Cup traditionally, but once they started letting non-champions enter the CL, the CWC was pretty much DOA.

A part of me still wants the old system of a Champions-only CL, a UEFA Cup comprised of 2nd-4th placed teams + League Cup winners, and a CWC. But I think this new three-tier system with the CL, EL, and the Conference League is probably going to be as good as it gets, realistically, with a much more focused EL feeding off of the CL.

What other manager has had 4 keepers in their european squad this year? 3 is more than enough. He might have been forced into it a few times but then you say he does it to practice shooting. You say Hannibal hasn't played minutes but how many minutes have our 3rd n 4th choice keeper played? What if a keeper gets injured or sick ? That's why we take 3. What if 2 keepers get injured or sick ? That never happens so to plan for a one in million probability is ridiculous.

Is this really a stick to beat Ole with? Bringing along keepers in the travelling squad? I wouldn't care if he brought along 10 keepers if he thought that would be somehow beneficial. Yes it looked funny earlier this year when we had 3 keepers on the bench or so, but we didn't have other options that were fit.

Most other teams don't have 2 outright top keepers, so their 3 is our 4. If we have room on the plane and another hotelroom won't kill our budget, then what does it matter how many keepers we bring. If they help prepare the team for their match?
An extra keeper that doesn't play can still help in preparations if 1 or 2 players want to practice setpieces or whatever while the rest of the team does other exercises.
An extra outfield player that doesn't play (like Hannibal), can still be somewhat beneficial, but would be there mostly to learn and kinda gets in the way. He'll have lots of chances to be in the squad and learn later (our youngest keeper travelling is 21 (Mejbri 18), so he needs to get experience now before a decision on his future is made).

Either way you have two days to get hammered if we win, and even more hammered if we lose, it's a win-win.
