Suddenly feel very confident about this. Seems David Gill joined him too.

Huge game for Ole. Feeling good. 2-1 win.

This is it. It will be wonderful for us to win but it's a win that won't really string rival fans, Arsenal aside.

And if we lose, we are getting bantered bareback.
Exactly my point, it's not like well be the envy of anyone because we won the EL, but if we lose I'm sure rival fans will be pretty vocal about it.

The Scousers won't be happy if we manage to win. Their lack of Silverware this season will make any cup win of ours sting a little.

They won't let it show though, and mock it as a Mickey Mouse trophy.

What's worse/better to win the EL because you failed to go past the group stage in UCL or to get eliminated in quarter finals of UCL?

Personally I would take the quarter finals, but I can understand some people preferring the EL title.

We haven't won anything since 2017 yet people are turning their nose up at the chance of silverware. Unbelievable really.

The boost it would give this squad and our manager would be fantastic.

Winning a trophy is always special even if it's not the one you want.

The Spanish football podcast had 2 interesting stats today at the end of la Liga season:
Gerard Moreno scored or assisted 50% of Villareal’s goals, the highest % of any player in the league.

Villareal have the fewest headed goals scored this season with 3.

I think this team needs a trophy

Trophy is a trophy even if it's the emirates trophy.

Maguire will start I guess and will play for about 60 mins. Hope we have enough goals by then to win it.

I find the negativity genuinely baffling.

It used to bother me but I'm beginning to find it funny because it's becoming absurd.
It's borderline snobbery with some of these so called supporters who was clearly spoiled by the ferguson era of success. They have forgotten what supporting means and worrying about what opposition supporters will think is nonsense.

Never mind the Scousers. We will have factions within the forum who won't be happy either if we win the EL. It only means that Ole will stay another season in their eyes.

It's the traveling squad of 26. Matchday will be 23 since we are allowed 12 subs on the bench this covid year. So we'll probably take out 2 keepers and 1 other for the final squad. Or maybe 2 keepers on the bench if the other squad players are not feeling fit.

I'm sure he has 4 keepers with him to use for training etc before the final. Lots of people to practice shooting. Plus worst case scenario if one or two keepers get injured/sick.

And he already has 3 youngsters with him to a European Final. Bringing Hannibal that has barely played some minutes would not make too much sense at this point. I'm sure he'll get chances in our pre-season.

Edit: As for having been forced to it earlier. Yeah due to covid restrictions our young players couldn't swap corona-bubbles on short notice if a spot opened up on the bench due to injuries. So it was better to bring extra keepers than nobody. Hannibal was supposed to have joined the first team bubble when the other youngsters did, but he got injuried so went back to the lower teams.
What other manager has had 4 keepers in their european squad this year? 3 is more than enough. He might have been forced into it a few times but then you say he does it to practice shooting. You say Hannibal hasn't played minutes but how many minutes have our 3rd n 4th choice keeper played? What if a keeper gets injured or sick ? That's why we take 3. What if 2 keepers get injured or sick ? That never happens so to plan for a one in million probability is ridiculous.

I think context is very important. It depends on how the rest of the season goes. For instance, if you're in a tight title race youd much rather a late-stage CL exit than an EL triumph. But if it's your best chance for silverware that season, it's pretty churlish to turn up your nose at the EL.

Just like in the good old days. Fergie, Ole, Gill, all traveling together to a cup final. Night and day to the miserable Mourinho era from just a few years ago.

Really feeling that wonderful mix of nervousness and excitement that comes with a cup final. Such an important trophy for the development of our team. Seeing SAF there gives me an irrational boost of belief. Hope it's the same for the players too.

I think Ole will go with Pogba left and Rashford right. Greenwood will miss out and be the super sub. IMO Greenwood is better on the right but Rashford's pace is a nightmare for any defender. Tuanzebe should be ahead of Bailly after the last game.

As long as we match Villareal's desire on the night we should win. But it won't be easy. Predicting a 3-1 win with Cavani and Rashford on the scoresheet.

It is a minor trophy. Deal with it. Of course every united fan wants to win but lets not act like it's something bigger than it is . Our need to win is magnified because of our recent lack of trophies.

It's not the Charity Shield or Carling Cup FFS. It's a European competition with history behind it. It may not be as glamorous or massive as the ECL Trophy, but it's a European trophy all the same.

    Give it a rest.

Like it or not we are in the Europa and I’m excited for Ole to potentially win his first bit of silverware. A trophy is a trophy.

I couldn’t care less what credit any other fans want to give.

I never said it's not a European trophy or it doesn't have history behind it. It's below the fa cup and above the league cup in terms of importance for me put it that way.

It's hilarious how the rating of trophy change based on who the manager is

Yes and the Fa cup doesn't compare to the Europa league. Who beat along the way means about as much as how you win the game. Arsenal beat us in an FA cup final without having a shot on goal, How did you lot play in your final against Bayern? Football is a results business and with Mourinho and Man utd business is booming.
Then you need new friends buddy. Europa league/ UEFA cup > Fa cup/Coppa Italia/Copa del rey etc If PSG beats Angers in the french cup final will they have had a more impressive season than us? A european trophy is always better than a domestic one apart from the league of course. Just like a CL is better than winning the league.

Jesus wept, some people have gone full Arsenal in here....
Winning the Europa League would be massive. A catalyst for hopefully better things.

Winning trophies, no matter what they are, is imperative to United.

    Yes yes yes!
Cavani is like Ibra now. A talisman.
VdB gives added attacking options. (Fred on if we get 2-0 up)

I tell you what. If Rash and Bruno perform to their top level, we’ll cruise.

If not, it will be a slog of a game. They (Villarreal) are excellent at soaking up pressure and wearing down opponents.
