    Personally I'd start Greenwood but I don't think Ole will. I think rashford will be on the right to accommodate pogba on the left, I don't agree with it but think that's what we'll see

    Harsh on Mason who's been in excellent form and links well with cavani but rashford along with Bruno and maguire starts every game for Ole if he's fit

    A brave man drops one of McFred and plays Pogba in the middle but that won't happen either imo
     
    Seems like the whole gang is following Ole to Poland. Rooney, Rio, SAF, Gil etc. Going to be some mad party if United win. Kinda makes me happy seeing that.

    Where were the stats from? Whoscored has his rating slightly lower and his goal contributions are slightly lower as well when he's on the right.

    I've been saying this for a while though. He doesn't look as dangerous or as comfortable and can't go by a player as easily when he's on the right but his output doesn't drop that much. He still scores and assists quite regularly.

    Scroll down a little bit. Don't know how accurate those stats are, because like yourself I've always felt like his game drops significantly when he's on the right.
     
    Really looking forward to this. Booked the afternoon off work and going to do feck all other than doss around in front of the tv for a few hours in preparation.
     
    I'm feeling 4-1 now...

    Really hope (beyond hope, but still) that Ole puts Pogba on the left, Greenwood on the right, and Rashford subs at the half.

    They're going to keep it tight and try to nick one, then defend until the end. We have to make sure we keep control and not get caught out.
     
    Everyone in here is way too confident given our recent form. The team that plays tonight got spanked by Liverpool and failed to beat a relegated Fulham at Old Trafford with fans. We're not in particularly good form going into this.

    I had the same reaction when I saw those stats because they are counter-intuitive at first glance.

    Transfermarkt have Rashford's contributions from RW as 6 goals and 2 assists in 9 games which is a better rate than his G/A ratios at LW or CF. It’s also the exact same stat @UNITED ACADEMY used in a different thread to tell me ‘there’s no difference’ between Rashford on the right or the left.

    But the main thing I took from those numbers were that it just illustrates the issue with exclusively using stats as the basis for a footballing viewpoint, rather than looking at what’s happening on the pitch.

    I think it’s abundantly clear at this point that Rashford, and the team, are much more comfortable and cohesive in terms of performance with him on the left. We look far better at present with Greenwood on the right IMO and the fact that Rashford has a higher G/A per 90 on the right doesn’t change that fact, it just clouds it.

    (Not saying any of that to criticise you, rather just making a point about the issue with looking at stats in isolation)

    Are we thinking OGS is playing mind games with Maguire ? He seems to be on and off crutches and training..

    No I completely agree.

    If it was my decision, Rashford would never play on the right again. Not only does his overall game suffer (despite what the stats say) by moving over to the right, we've also a better option there in Greenwood - who's build up play is massively under-rated.

    This issue all stems from having to shoe-horn Pogba into the team and find a place for him. Personally, I'm of the opinion that you either find a system in midfield that he can play in, or you don't play him at all. Shunting him out to the left which then has a knock-on affect with other players having to play out of position, to accommodate the one - isn't doing us any favours.
     
    For me Cavani must start so I guess it's a choice of Greenwood or Rashord up there with him. I don't think Rashford has been anywhere close to fit for months so it's an easy one for me (not that I think that is what will happen). Part o me wants rashford not to be fit for the euros so he can have surgery and be that much further down the rehab road come pres-season training.

    I'd prefer to see Henderson in goal (I think the defence looks calmer with him there) but again I'm pretty sure that won't happen. As for the CB pairing, I'd go with Axel simply because then we don't need two "changes" and Lindelof can play on his favoured side

    Two of them were basically from a CF position while one was a run through the middle of the defence starting in the right-hand channel. That would be the closest goal you could attribute to a RW position but even that would be pushing it.

    Bottom line is stats are a useful tool when used correctly but can be wildly misleading when framed without the proper context imo.

    With that in mind, this is the team I’d hope to see tonight;

    De Gea
    AWB Lindelof Tuanzebe Shaw
    McTominay Fred
    Greenwood Bruno Pogba
    Cavani​

    with Rashford off the bench into the LW slot and Pogba taking one of the CM spots if we need a goal. Hopefully we won’t!

    It's going to be a nervy evening, that I can assure you. Squeaky bum, edge of seat, heart in mouth, fingers and legs crossed and then crossed again. This lot are going to play with passion and abandon. Keep it tidy for the first 20 minutes; attack them. Critical to avoid daft mistakes. Come on, United.

    And thank god for that. Don't know how I'd cope otherwise, with not much else to look forward to in this still travel-free summer. It's just the right year for a good, long Euro tournament.

    This proves the agenda trying to twist everything to suit the argument. Rashford on the left also runs through the middle starting in the left channel. If he can do it the same way on the right then it shouldn’t be an issue. If only people understand how he operates on wide, you will understand there is not much difference in how Rashford scored those two goals from CF vs RB Leipzig with his other goals when he scored from right or left. Drift inside from wide running behind defenders.

    No. But it‘s an agenda to think of it as an issue. Let’s not changing it the fact you were against it because you think it’s an issue. If you can score goals or make assist and win a game then it shouldn’t be an issue right?
     
    Hoping United can do me a huge favour tonight. Dad succumbed to cancer on Sunday morning, and dad would have been elated for Ole to get some silverware this season!
