That Wolfsburg defensive line is there for the taking though. Look how easily Martial could run away from them. One through ball is enough.

"You only sing when we're winning, sing when we're winnniiinnnnngggg"

It's hard to understand what your criticism is. I should celebrate when we lose? And when we win these days it's usually with completely garbage football. The fact is I am consistent in my criticism of our manager. I wanted him to be successful, but he hasn't and shows no signs of building the sort of squad the money he's spending warrants. I want him out for the benefit of my club.

We can't even play to our 'strengths' today lol. Wolfsburg have been more comfortable in possession than us by far and

to be fair, i think we are trying to play that way. Counterattack football. We seemed to be defending deeper even the likes of depay and lingard defending

Wolfsburg are a bit shit at defending the through ball, we should be trying them even more than we have been. I'd much rather see us overhit a through ball and try something than pass it out to the wing only to see it recycled back again.

Don't fancy our chances but in honesty I don't really give a shit, pretty clear as a team we are still 2-3 years away from actually impacting this competition. Europa league run might be fun.

Maybe, it just feels to me that if the question is over whether he interfered the lino should be able to see that.

But meh, whatever, ultimately its the right call.

I agree he should have took a decision like a grown man and the referee took the right decision at the end. It was a weird moment.

To be honest, if we lose it isn't LVG's fault. He's clearly told the players they must win, and has put out an attacking lineup. The players have been at fault thus far, they haven't shown enough intelligence and haven't shown enough heart.

If we're out it's clearly his fault, for the shite we have served up consistently throughout the group stages especially PSV at home.

Hopefully Carrick comes on at half time. Fellaini either needs to be taken off or at least moved into that more attacking left side position like he was playing in during our good run last season. He's been atrocious in the middle during the first half.

Fellaini won't go off because he's our plan B. Not happy about that but expect someone else to make way if Carrick is to be subbed on.

I agree that we aren't doing great with the pressure but it also looks like we are more attacking and less possession oriented than usual. We are definitely more open and risky than normal today imo.
We seem to be pressing higher as a group more often than I remember of late.

Yep, when we actually try to make a few incisive passes we actually have a chance of creating something dangerous.

Nothing to do with this particular match though. I understand your frustration but we are kinda bad so nothing should be used to excuse our own failures.

OK. I did not in any way imply that this match is an example of their corruption. And yes we are bad, but at least we are trying something. I did not expect even that.

Just sack philosophy and bring SAF back for the rest of the season.

    There I said it

It isn't surprise. Leave the bias aside, and it suddenly becomes a very easy decision (especially with the new rules).

People should stop moaning. It was a clear offside.
Under the new rules, old skool rules says it's a goal which I think is where some of the confusion is coming from.

Can't remember seeing such nativity in a top class team before.

For a few moments, I felt that strange feeling of Germany running through Brazil at will during the last World Cup.

Our big problem now is I can't see how we will stop Wolfsburg scoring at least one more goal unless we deploy a park the bus plan.

Lastly, it was clearly off side for me. Of course Mata was interfering with play! Don't see why it's even vaguely controversial.

A massive 45 mins ahead. I can't see how we come out on top.

We could certainly do with 2 or 3 wise men...

Right is your opinion. If you watched the replay you would see he didn't interfere with play at all. And simple technology like a stop-clock would mean we properly had 5 minutes added on rather than the 2 minutes despite play being stopped for far longer.

He's clearly interfering with Benaglio, who stays central, because he has to react to a possible touch from Mata.
Therefore it's offside? Didn't Webb confirm as much on English TV?

If you seriously think the linesman would've called it offside anyway without player pressure, why the hell did the entire Wolfsburg team surround him? Disgrace.

Watch the gif, right after the ball crosses the line he looks straight at the ref and starts gesturing, long before any Wolfsburg player is close to him.

Not sure what the big deal about the linesman's decision was. Seemed like he just wanted to confer with the referee about whether Mata was interfering with play or not. Makes sense given the ref was in a better position to make that particular call. He was obviously calling the ref over before the players started complaining.

You're right and because LVG had to tbh. Our usual shit football wouldn't have helped at all. Wolsburg would still have been dangerous and we would have created less chances.

Schweinsteiger has been the worst player on the pitch. Shocking that he of all players is so poor.
Both him and fellaini have been pretty useless. Not controlling the game at all for us today. We need Carrick in there.

Good discussion @kouroux I'm glad we could have it in a civil manner despite disagreeing. I'm going to watch the second half more intently so won't be responding until the game is over. Enjoy the rest of it (hopefully we get a good comeback to enjoy!).

comeon son, no one thought that lucky cross was going in.
there was much more chance it'd be there for Mata to put in.
He couldn't just stop moving, as we'd all have been cursing no one being in there

in conclusion all in though, this is horrible, and it turns out our defence isn't that great when we have to score!

What the heck was Smalling doing at 2-1 down when they had that breakaway, went way too far one way, meaning their man had a very very obvious ball in. Very lucky not to be 3-1 down.

Ultra reliant on CSKA doing us a humongous favour here!

There's no way this bunch of kids is scoring two more here
Any good player must feel when he is offside, sure if it's some inches you can't feel it, but Mata was miles offside, so it does not matter whether you believe it's going in or not, if you move towards the ball it's a offside, simple as that.

So does every single United player.

He allowed things to tick and consistently provided cover for the back four. We look so disorganized without him.
Yeah effectively we are playing with no defensive midfielder which is why we look so exposed to those late runs.

 Been brutal defensively, genuinely doesn't look like a CB tonight.

He's saved us on 3 occasions and he's made a couple of really good, incisive passes, including one in the build up to our goal.

Smalling is the centre back having a nightmare today, not Blind.

Schweinsteiger has been the worst player on the pitch. Shocking that he of all players is so poor.

Not easy to have to be one in the midfield.... Fellaini has been so shit that he is never on the midfield!!

I take it you have the rules handy that say exactly that? It seems unlikely. To be standing a few inches in front of the keeper for example and not be flagged because you're stood fairly still would be absurd.
Google it. You have to make an obvious movement towards the ball. I don't see how Mata did that. His position played no part in the ball going in.
