Attacking midfielder...11/11...good stuff
Our defense feels less robust without Shaw, but the midfield and attack looks solid. I'd be dreading it if I were Southampton. Only a matter of time until we see some individual efforts result in goals too.

I always think Young's a bit shit on the right wing whenever he plays there... which is weird, 'cos in theory he should be fine there.
A #10 is not an attacking midfielder unless you consider Cantona, Yorke and Sheringham midfielders.

I don't think it's surprising/weird. His strength is to cut in, the occasional time he goes out wide actually catches the defender be surprise. Then comes his usual cross. Put him on the right and he looks poor as is to be expected.
The sheet makes it look like Rojo is at CB. Not sure I like that really.
Riquelme and Zidane are #10 and they are midfielders, depending on the player and the system the player playing in the hole can be an attacker or a midfielder.
"#10" shouldn't be used to describe the position but only the role, and Rooney isn't a #10.

It depends on the player playing the role. A Herrera plays it as a 3rd midfielder. A Rooney plays it as a supporting striker.

I am sure I had Ashley in and that Rooney would weedle his way back in at No. 9. 10/11 isn't bad though.I'm not complaining because I think it's the best we can do with our squad unless we give Valencia or Lingard a chance on the right which doesn't make sense as we know Mata can be productive.
I just feel we are imbalanced towards the left, even Martial's game is to drift to the left flank as he likes to pick the ball up there, Blind will put in good crosses, we have a strong attack down the left yet Rooney's preference as a 10 might be to look to the right flank where Darmian will just pass it back.
I'm sure the manager will be aware of this and we've been working in training for Martial to try and drift to the right more often and Rooney to look towards the left flank with his passes, I'd also like Mata to drift less, stay wider but then make runs as space opens between the full back and centre back, when he receives the ball in the box, in dangerous areas, a little to the right, his first touch is excellent and he sets himself up well for the finish, he also has the composure and execution to put the ball in the net but since he can't get himself in those positions he should look to receive the ball in the box to his feet in a little space.Probably our best attack out there today. Wouldn't expect to see it too often because I don't expect Martial to start all that often tbh. I assume it's Blind at left back with Rojo at centre back. Hope we get back on track today after the game midweek.
