    We’ve had plenty of chances to score, they have had a rather fortuitous goal so there is an element of bad luck involved. However, we can surely play much better than this, the tempo of our passing is far too slow and if we can speed up our passing then we can get a result. Sancho to come on at half time!
     
    Matic is so slow in his decision making that he keeps giving hospital passes to his teammates who then immediately lose the ball. He is contributing nothing and stinking up the place.
     
    Outside of set plays we've created nothing, the midfield was a concern before the game and they've been really poor. There's still enough quality in the team and on the bench to turn this but that half was a reminder that some of the old failings are still there.
     
    I swear I heard Alan Smith call that Southampton player Janemba. Like from Dragon Ball Z.
     
    Matic and Fred have been a bit shite in either end of the pitch in the first half.

    I think this half showed lack of our match fitness.
     
    This looks like last season. Away game. Concede and then come back in second half.... hopefully :nervous::nervous:
     
    It's just a fact that we won't consistently dominate and outplay opponents until we get more quality into the CM positions.

    It's painful watching Fred at times, he's the sort of scrappy, tireless midfielder you want at an upper mid-table team but lacks any kind of quality on the ball
     
    I don't know how people manage to blame specific players when no one has been good and the issue is clearly a collective one.

    Hey don’t try and and be reasonable. Many have already decided to scapegoat martial for having an average game similar to everyone else.
     
    Tell you what. Move Greenwood up front and put Sancho on the right and that would improve our attacks. Martial is like a ghost, can't even be arsed to press, put in half hearted effort in 50-50 situation, not making runs, not dropping deep. Just waiting like a statue up front.
     
    Soton haven't really been threatening at all, really not that worried. We should really put one of these chances away.
     
    Their goal shouldn't have stood due to a blatant foul on Bruno, but that's just the way it is.

    This team is used to making second half comebacks. We'll win this.

    I thought this malaise had been cured. It hasn't. What has happened to those surging Maguire runs? The back line are playing too deep and that is a tactical flaw.
     
    Started good. Played very static last 20. Martial is not offering anything. Shouldn’t be behind and should have scored atleast 2. Looking forward for more energy in second. Unlucky with goal. Fred deflection and referee not doing his job.

    Well at least it would make him look like he cares, maybe if he made a couple of runs his teammates would find him?

    It's not only about him being awfully off form but his attitude and laziness is clearly a problem, his body language screams that he doesn't give a single feck.

    Exactly this. Would forgive it if we hadn't seen it for years. It's like Ole doesn't know his own players. What has Donny done!?!?
     
    Has martial got photos of ole molesting a child or something?
    What the feck has he done to warrant a start ?. He should be hooked at half time and sold before the end of the game.
    Cannot stand him any more.
     
    Frustrating half of football. Should have been 1 or 2-0 ahead before Southampton scored. Most refs would have given a free to Bruno on the build up on that goal and then Southampton got double luck with the deflection.

    Could be one of those days/games..
     
    Not a good performance I take it? I'm on a train with shite service so not seen any of it.
     
    I don't understand how nobody is bollocking the players in the run up to that goal. The sloppiness had been there for all to see for about 10 minutes. Ole should be laying into them, otherwise it's just contagious.
     
    I mean how was it not a foul on Bruno for their goal. He doesn’t even get the ball, cleans him out from behind. That’s a foul 99/100 anywhere else on the pitch. Complete joke really.
     
    Get rid of Matic and Martial. Martial is useless. Put Sancho on in place of him, Mason upfront. Put Scott in place of Matic. Matic playing as a 3rd centre half is useless - there’s no transition from defence to attack because of it
     
    I actually think we are missing McTominay grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck and bringing it forward. Matic is way too slow, mostly a bystander. Fred a headless chicken, he needs MCT next to him to bail him out when he runs into trouble.

    Neves, Bissouma, anyone could walk into this midfield and improve it.
