I'd probably take a draw if offered now but after slipping up badly v Palace at home a win is required to get back on track however i fear another defeat for United will likely happen as this group of players do not respond well to any type of setbacks.

This is going to be our son’s first Utd game to see. He is backpacking in Europe. Whilst he’s been looking forward to this for months - he messaged me yesterday that he doesn’t know why he continues to watch us. A bit sad but I know when he goes to Southampton, he will be super excited as I to see us win!

Not sure we will see many, if any changes aside from those put upon us by injury..

    Cool!

I reckon a game with our passionate away fans will rejuvenate his love regardless of the result.

Fred or Pereira have to come in for Lingard and we have to start playing Pogba further forward again. Greenwood for Martial if he's still injured.

    Fred/Pereira - McTominay
    James - Pogba - Rashford
    Martial/Greenwood
That or play Gomes. Hopefully he's on the bench at least.

A lot depends on who is fit. If both Martial and Shaw are out, I'd go:

    De Gea
    Wan Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Young
    Fred McTominay Pogba
    Greenwood Rashford James

Ideally I would like to see something like the below. I am basing this on Shaw and Martial being injured. Shaw to replace Young if fit. Tony up top and Rashford on the left if fit.

We could throw Matic or Fred in and push Pogba further up the pitch, but I'd prefer both Pogba and Gomes playing for reduce reliance on Pogba.

    Dave
    AWB Lindelof Maguire Young
    McT Pogba
    Greenwood Gomes James
    Rashford

The blueprint for "smaller" teams to beat us is pretty well established, sit deep and let us have the ball and try to hit us on the counter, because basically our biggest attacking weapon by far is the counter attack. Fortunately I think Southampton will try to play their game and we'll pick them off.

I imagine the starting 11 will be pretty much the same, perhaps Pereira in for Lingard, or worryingly it could be Mata. :nervous:

    Grim.

I honestly can't believe that so many people are confident we're going to win this and keep a clean sheet?! Feck me, what is making you think this apart from blind faith? Personally, I'd be dropping DDG and Lingard and Lindelöf would be on borrowed time (poor performance here and I'd drop him too). Won't happen though:

    -----------------------DDG------------------------------
    Wan-Bissaka----Lindelöf---Maguire-----------Young
    ----------------McTominay---Pogba--------------------
    ------------------------Mata----------------------------
    Lingard---------------Rashford-------------------James

SUBS - Pereira (Mata), Greenwood (Lingard), Matic (McTominay).

    Southampton 1 - 1 Man United
    Rashford

Play whatever team. The attacks will end up dying in Lingards and Rashfords feet anyway

Pereira and Matic will play instead McT and Lingard. Young if Shaw will not be ready. They will wait for counter and score some shit goal(s). 1-1 if we score first. If they score first, we are fecked

    DDG
    AWB-VNL-Maguire-Shaw
    -----Pogba-Matic-Fred-----
    James-----------------Rashford
    ---------------Martial-------------

0-3 Martial and Rashford to score.

Would like to see us shore up the midfield and get Lingard on the bench so here goes..

    -------------------De Gea-----------------
    AWB--Lindelöf--Maguire--Shaw
    -------------------Matic-------------------
    -------McSauce--------PP---------------
    James-------Martial-----Rashford

Honestly, think that's our best team right now.
Could argue that Gomes,Chong or Greenwood should start but PP and McSauce in midfield aren't solid enough defensively imo.
Chong, Gomes, Greenwood and Garner should be subbed on when/if we're in front, not when we need a goal..too much pressure for them.Let's do it the Fergie way since Ole is clearly going down that road anyway.
And just to be clear, I don't rate Matic very highly, it's just that he's the best we got in that position.
As for Pereira I don't mind him but I struggle to see he will ever be a solid starter for us.
Fred is a curious case of a what should be a good player, but will never be that for us imo.

Predict an impressive win with patched up line-up renewing faith and hope in club and manager … only to lose all momentum in the most pointless international break of the season!

Don’t forget all the injuries our players pick up on pointless duty......

Our weekend will be ruined a couple of hours earlier this time.

Unless these players actually earn their ridiculous wages for once and manage the art of actually passing the ball to a team mate and shooting between those white posts.

433: de Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelöf, Maguire, Young; McTominay, Matić, Pogba; Greenwood, Rashford, James.

Matić to help shield the defense. I'll go insane if Lingard gets another start and if Solskjær goes for the 4231.

I'm not even going to try and predict a result but I'm trying to be optimistic.

Get Matic in the team for some balance. Scott and Pogba is not a balanced midfield.

This will be another tough test for us. We will have to fight for full 90 minutes and more to get all 3 points.

    Oles early team sheet.

    LINGARD plus 10 others.

We should have used most of our bad luck portion by now. If we play well we should win this like. We should have won the past 2 games. It's time heaven smile back on us again

We've dominated pitch play the last 2 games, so I'm going to go with: We dominate the pitch again, and this time we avoid those enormous personal faults that reults in goals against. Comfortable 1-4 away victory here we go.

    Saints win for me.

They will use the same approach as Palace. Defend deep, leave the wings open for us to put some poor crosses when no one except Mata, James and Rashy (hate that surname) are on the box, meaning players that never headed a single ball.

We will probably concede on set pieces against them.

Don't think we will change much the team except the injured ones.

    De Gea

    Wan Bissaka
    Maguire
    Lindelof
    Young (cap)

    Pogba

If that's the team sheet than I don't see how we win by playing 10 men from the start

I hope so, luck does even itself out over a season but we really need to do more. No one can be more surprised by our lack of shots on target than Ole and his coaches. I refuse to believe we score many in training our produce a quality delivery from corners or free kicks because it never happens on the pitch.

Assuming there's no updates on Shaw and Martial. Both injuries looked bad enough that I will be surprised if they play again until after the international break, along with Dalot being missing too. I don't think Ole will drift too far from what he's been doing the last two games despite it not getting us the desired results.

While I will wholeheartedly say we simply were not good enough against Wolves or Palace in terms of overall play, we were still bang unlucky to not win both matches for various reasons. We can't be making excuses though, we failed to win and that's that.

Young has to come in for Shaw unfortunately and I'd like to see Ole look to Greenwood over Martial as I'm convinced he's out as well. However, being away to Saints I can see Ole going with Andreas or Mata, or even Matic...

    de Gea
    Wan-Bissaka Lindelof Maguire Young

    McTominay Pogba
    Greenwood Lingard James
    Rashford

    Andreas McTominay Pogba
    Lingard Rashford James

    McTominay Pogba
    Lingard Mata James
    Rashford

    McTominay Matic Pogba
    Lingard Rashford James

There are a few options, but unfortunately if Martial is injured I don't think any of them include dropping Lingard. They probably don't involve starting Gomes either so I refuse to dream on that front. We will probably be lucky to see Ole start Greenwood despite us only having one fit striker but that's the route in hope we take.

The bench will be interesting now that we have injuries. Tuanzebe seems the clear third choice CB and Young as captain the third choice fullback. Unfortunately for Dalot when his chance has come to be involved he's injured as well. I think it's going to be Darmian or Rojo on the bench this weekend, something I didn't think we'd see in the Premier League this season but we're already resorting to it less than a month in. The other question mark is who takes up the attacking spot on the bench? If Alexis isn't sold or loaned out, will he be trusted? Or, will Gomes be included now?

A bit premature but I think this is almost a must-win already. We've dropped points twice when we really should have come away with a bit more. We need to try and push on rather than being in a close battle with the other top six sides as I think we'll fall short in a close race.

Fail to win this one and we are entitled to go into full scale Private Frazer mode!

I think we might find this one tough. Southampton might sit deep and play on the counter given how successful it was for Palace. Getting a point off a visiting Man Utd is a good result for Southampton. Id like to see us change formation here. 442. McTominay and Pogba centrally. James and Lingard left and right. Martial and Rashford up top.

Assuming Martial & Shaw are injured....

Honestly the side looks so midtable. We lack quality in the first XI let alone depth.
