Think that's the worst attack I've seen start for United in 20 years.

West Ham literally have a better attack.

    Gotta laugh.

Are.... Are you actually providing their youth team and reserve games as if they're legitimate statistics correlative with PL statistics? I... my sides...

    Apparently so.

I mean why not start the game with a rookie 17 year old, a rookie 18 year old and a rookie 19 year old coupled with two players that enjoy giving the ball away for fun in Pogba and Fred. What could possibly go wrong with that idea.

:lol: I lived in Thailand last year, working as a teacher. When the Champions League was on, I was up at 2am in the morning, knowing full-well I had to teach lessons in the morning. Addiction.

Been there. I remember staying up until 5.30 am to see us get kicked out of a cup by Middlesbrough after 0-0 in regular time, and losing on penalties.
This was during the LVG-era, good times.

Fred nowhere to be seen again.
This is worrying. Feels like perfect bench player if we need some energy and tempo if we're down in the second half.

Starting Greenwood means accepting having no striker on the bench, I expect him to hold off doing so for as long as he can as a result

Ah come on now don’t be talking sense on a match day thread, just moan that injured players aren’t playing and pull the team to pieces :nono:

I’ll eat my shoe if Juan Mata is still playing premier league football from January onwards. Absolutely had no place at this level anymore.

We once started a Premier League match with a front three of Januzaj, Lawrence and Wilson. True story.

West Ham have a pretty good attack to be fair. :wenger:

I would have thought James would be on the left and Pereira right. It's the best we can hope for i guess.

Everyone complaining that Gomes and Greenwood aren't starting need to remember they're both kids who have everything to prove and need to do it in the right conditions, throwing them in to an away PL game is not the way to do it.

Jog on it's fecking Southampton ffs. If you can't start youth here then when can you.

He's clearly going to give all the starts to James instead, If he performs fair enough but Greenwood will need enough minutes to develop. If we're leading Greenwood needs at least 30mins on the pitch.

This Fred situation is a little concerning.

How can he not make the bench considering how shockingly weak it looks?

Pogba's been on the right of the two not the left, hasn't he? Crikey, that team ain't great is it....

Good chance for Mata here, he has pace around him, willing runners to find with his passing. I still think Mata can do good things at 10 this season when he plays.
I am a massive fan of Mata. His defender amongst many detractors. But he has been anonymous in the games he has been involved in so far. Hopefully that will change. Quite how we are relying on Pereira as wide man in an attacking three is bamboozling. I would understand if Greenwood was blooded, but no. Do we think Pereira is a better option than Sanchez??

Wolves, Leicester and Everton will field stronger 11's than we will this weekend.

    That's not a top 4 team. I don't even think it's top 6.

Ole said Fred is behind Pogba, Matic and McTominay and that's why he hasn't been involved at the moment. Crazy that we paid £50m for a guy that can't even get in the squad

Mata isn't an impact sub, never was, never will become one. He requires time to settle into the game, get used to the tempo and all this is impossible to doin 5-10 minutes

Where is Fred? Can he really be that bad in training that he can't make the bench once in four games?

Still know Gomes is really disappointing, he should be getting this chance over Mata.

How the board can look at this team and think they're doing a good job is crazy

Such an average team, I completely forgot that Martial was injured. Can see Ole throwing Greenwood on late to try and save us, crazy pressure for a 17 yr old.

It is very hard to look at our lineup and not be amazed how average it is.
Especially as shaw and martial aside it's the best we can field.

Imagine it without the two big defensive signings!!

That team looks depressing tbh. Proper midtable.

This is going to be a long season for us..

But they are all young, hungry and commited and besides 2 out of 3 are British and from our academy and are all playing for the jersey. What are you talking about?

I also hope for Mata to come good and am giving him a chance because he's been stuck on the wing for several years when he could have been honing his 10 skills. I hope the skills return to him. He was a belter of a player when he signed.

I think Sanchez simply isn't the Sanchez we knew - I wouldn't expect him to last the match, let alone contribute something telling. Pereira got his assist against Chelsea, he HAS an engine on him... I think one of him and Lingard has a future as a squad player at the club. Today it's Pereira's turn, and I'm more excited about that than Lingard just because I know what Lingard does. Pereira has the right attitude, it is a season where he finally has his sink or swim chance.

Andreas starting is good. Fred not being around is weird.

I dont mind the team.. but the worrying bit is, this is close to us being full strength..

Need to add a top midfielder quickly.

Why do you think Pereira is wide?
Surely he's simply in a mid three?

Didn’t we learn anything from our pre season game against AC Milan?

Mata and Perreira together in the same line up doesn’t work. Both are to weak in defense and Perreira make to many fouls and often give away possession in dangerous areas.

Why do we start simultaneously Pereira and Mata? One of the two would be enough.

At least Ole seems to have realised Lingard should be dropped. Taking that as a big result.

For anyone to say we have a good squad is just laughable to be honest. That attack is quite possibly the worst I’ve ever seen us lineup with.

Can actually see us winning this by a couple of goals

Lingard deservedly dropped, rest speak for itself. Pogba first goalscorer

Re: Gomes it's been said umpteen times.. played last night went off injured.

Pereira has shown nothing to make me think he is United quality and certainly not a better option than Sanchez who we know can be quality. Why we are paying for him to play somewhere else with such a weak squad is senseless.

No issue with Greenwood being on the bench, people saying Ole has shown he only talks a good game, bigging our youngsters up and not playing them from the start need to chill out.

Do you see them train all week? Do you talk with them so you can gauge their mental readiness? Greenwood is 17, he’ll come on and get enough minutes.

What I like about today’s team is that he has dropped Lingard after a poor start to the season, he’s not going to keep playing players he ‘likes’ which was what I thought was a potential issue.

I do wonder how long some posters have been watching football and what their actual understanding of not only playing the game but the man management of being a manger.
