Can't imagine RVP, Rooney and Falcao in the first XI .. we need a more "pace player" faster contribution with the ball, so we should start just with RVP in front, and bring Mata instead Falcao .. he can get 30 mins depends from the game and the result and after this game, put him in fire against Liverpool.

    Would like to see

    ----------------DDG-----------------
    Valencia----Smalling---Evans----Rojo
    --------Fellaini------Carrick---------
    Herrera------Rooney------Mata
    ------------RVP-------------------------

I get your sentiment but I really dont think playing Mata instead of Falcao with RvP up top speeds anything up.

Mata in behind Rooney and Falcao makes more sense.

I would be happy with Van Persie/Falcao, Rooney & Mata or Van Persie, Falcao & Rooney

Southampton were so tired against Arsenal in the last 20 minutes (Well it's hard to play against three top clubs in 7 days :) ) so Wilson from the bench in the last 10-20 minutes (if the match is a draw) against a tired Southampton team could be great option.

That a great point. Januzaj will probably be on to run at tired legs too.

Almost every single team we needed to drop points last night actually did (apart from City). We need to capitalise on this opportunity that's been handed to us. Dropping points would be EXTREMELY disappointed considering the hand that we've been given from Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal last night.

Its a "nice to win". Not a must-win.
If we lose or draw, I'd say that we are still favourites for 3rd place.
If we do win, then its a bonus and we take 3rd place on Monday.

If this were the final game of the season and were in 5th, playing the 4th place team who were 2 points ahead of us - this would be a must-win game.
This is not even close to a must-win game.
It depends on the target. After the last year's shambles and the slow start this year, combined with Chelsea's amazing start, most of us lowered our expectations where 4th place would be considered a success and 3rd would be considered great. So with that in mind you are right - win or lose on Monday we will still be in the mix for top 4, with a good chance for 3rd place.

However this season is shaping as one of the most unpredictable ones, where everyone is dropping points left right and centre. This gives us an unexpected chance to push and mount a title challenge. If we win we will be 8 behind Chelsea and 5 behind City with 23 games to go - that's nothing, just this week Chelsea dropped 5 points. It will be a huge win for us not only because of the points, but also because we will move to third place and capitalize on our rivals' slip - a huge psychological lift for us. So from this point of view it's a must win game.

Now don't get me wrong - I don't think we have a big chance of winning the title, but when we see even a small opening, we should go for it 100%. I always believed that the only way to play consistently in the CL is to be a title challenger, not to fight for top 4.

Falcao needs that goal that he's waiting for though.. And he can't keep coming on when we are leading in a match. Agree with Wilson. If we're tieing and need a goal young James wouldn't be bad to bring on against their tired defence. I'm not so worried About their attack tbh.. They've looked quite dire against arsenal and city.. And I believe we have a superior midfield to them.. We should really win this

Even if we are ahead having Wilson up front can be a huge advantage as it makes them play a much deeper line and eases the chance of them pressing us.

After the results last night anything but a win will be disappointing. Huge chance for us to consolidate our position in the top 4.

Don't think we'll let it slip. 2 or 3 nil win for us.

Playing all 3 RVP, Rooney, Falcao is a bad idea, since it will make Rooney dropping way too deep in the midfield. I would like to see a Rooney-Falcao combo with this one:

    Valencia-----Smalling------Rojo-------Young
    ------------------Carrick----------------------
    ------Fellaini------Mata------Herrera--------
    --------Rooney-------------------------------
    -------------------------Falcao----------------

So much went right for us yesterday:
    • Chelsea lost
    • Aguero injured
    • Arsenal lost
    • Liverpool drew
Before this I would have have taken a draw but we must capitalize now.

We need to keep an eye on 3 teams, Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool.
Finish ahead of that lot and we'll get 3rd.
S'ton & W Ham will naturally drop back over 38 games, so a point tomorrow isn't a bad result, more important to beat Pool on Sunday.

If Fellaini is out and Rafael is back in, I wouldnt be too surprised to see Valencia pushed into a midfield role.

However, if Fellani is fit to play, this is one of the times where I would think he would play as a #10 rather than a box to box. Simply due to the fact that Southampton will be pressing our defenders and midfielders, so Rooney needs to get more involved in midfield, and push Fellaini higher up as an outlet if we fail to play ourself out of defense / midfield. It would be the obvious choice I reckon.

    [got this Somewhere from internet]

Van Gaal knows everything about koeman and his formation,it is well known here that Van Gaal secretly noticed Feyenoord's success with 5-3-2 in the last half of the season, where Koeman found a way to deal with the young defensive errors by playing this formation and went from midtable to top team. Once Strootman was injured and Holland took a chanceless beating against France, Van Gaal had studied this and thought it be the best way to tackle the WC, even though he wanted to play 4-3-3 initially. Pelle was the main man of that Feyenoord team, where he would keep the ball to himself and the defenders were able to come up. Van Gaal will destroy that, and Tadic, known from Twente, will probably get two controllers around him. Koeman (re-)invented it for us, but VG knows all the ins and outs, so, there is no way Southampton will get a point. United 'is andere koek' (is a different biscuit).

Believe me games like these can define our season.

would also love to see falcao from the start, but i think his fitness only reaches for at least an hour.

hope for a clear united win. 2-0 (rooney and falcao to score one each)

Absolute rubbish, what a load of shite.

    We'll be wearing blue.

Like the look of that team. If Fellainis out i want Blind in if he's fit.

    Happy birthday Emdad.

Beat Southampton tomorrow and we are back in contention.
