Can you explain why you think this, just interested.
Saints have a good goal scoring record this season. Also although our defense has been decent the last few games it is still make shift.
I think we'll play on the break.

We've got no reason to fear Southampton in any way. Barring the Leicester brainf"ck we haven't conceded any more than any of the teams around us. I predict we'll win by 2 goals or more.

Arsenal beat them. Then we should beat them handsomely.
Given that the fixture is on Monday when all other teams are done playing, we will be under good pressure to secure a win and not a draw.

Yes but I think they've dried up a bit. Only one in the last three matches and four in the last five:
    ARS 0-1
    CITY 0-3
    VILLA 1-1
    LEI 2-0
    HULL 1-0

I have a feeling we should see this off even though their home record is good. A win would lift us to third place past the Saints.
Also Cork, Tadic and Alderweireld suffered injuries last night so their squad might be running a bit thin.

So they're missing key players in the position we're dominating (midfield. Never thought I'd say that!). Get Rooney and Rafael back and we'll give them another lesson. Fellaini to run riot in midfield.

We really need to win this, get some momentum before we destroy Liverpool.

    It gets better.

Do we know if Di Maria will be fit for this one too?

Possible but why risk it? They look toothless upfront and are missing their midfield, we should see the game off with the players we have fit already including Rooney.

Winning, going forth, getting players back from injury all ahead of the Liverpool game at HOME. Two wins would put our confidence to a new level.

If Di Maria's hammy is 100% we should play him into form for the scousers.

Gonna be a tough one but this with Rooney back and with some of our other players seeming to get into form again reckon we've got a good chance, and I think their steam is starting to run out. I like Southampton and actually hope they get into top 4, but hope we're gonna be taking that 3rd place from them now.

I think we can get the 3 points here, i'm much more confident now that Rooney's fit.
Two wins in the next two would be fantastic.

Either way, i'm just glad to be enjoying football again after last year. Feels great to be looking forward to the more difficult games again.

Wow, Southampton have had a really tough run of games.

I expect the same starting 11 as of the stoke match with rafael replacing valencia and either rooney or falcao for wilsons spot.

After being so excited about a midweek game on Tuesday I'm now being punished by having no United game at the weekend.

    feck sake.

    Agree 100%

    Fixed it for you.

We play on monday..what a downer.
Anyway, think we will beat them with Rooney back.
    Hopefully,Falcao will start that game.

I think everyone is overlooking the difficulties United face when we go away to Southampton.

    - In 2012/13- We won 3-2 in tightly contested match thanks to RVP
    - in 2013/14- It was a bore draw in which United struggled struggled to have shots at their goal.
    - Also factoring in Koeman is a massive rival of Van Gaal and knows him inside-out, neither of the two like each other.
    - LVG has an awful away record so far.

I reckon Koeman and his makeshift side will be pumped for this, more than we know. Di Maria is a massive absence and realistically with a small tear will be back after Christmas at the very earliest, thus missing liverpool + Saints etc.

I'd take a 1-0 win but I think it could be a draw if United struggle to create chances, RVP is hardly clinical these days so we'll need around 7-8 chances before we eventually score. if we can't achieve those numbers, dropped points seem very likelly.

i fear Koemans knowledge of LVG more thans Saints potential to be a bannana skin for us.

    Valencia Smalling Rojo Young
    .............Carrick
    .......Fellaini......Herrera
    ..............Mata
    ........Rooney...Falcao

I would pick this team, if Rooney is announced he is fully fit ill put him in the whole with RVP & Falcao up front. Herrera against stoke wasnt that impressive, his touches & ball control were terrible at times and he struggle to move the ball quick enough and put a pass in.

Whereas Mata, who even played more of a deeper role played brilliant. Ball control and first touch was top notch, kept the ball very well even when under pressure, put in some vital passes in the final third when moving forward and of course got the winning goal (even though it is up in debate that it was his goal). The rest however i think picks for itself, Felliani for his physicality and form and the back four same as last game but with Rafael back from injury.

we should start with wilson and rvp with rooney playing the no 10 role. falcao can come on later... plus drop mata and play the trio of fellaini--carrick--herrera.

Spot on! But I would have Herrera over Mata in central midfield.

To have any chance to challenge the title, We need to get a win streak from this Away Southampton game to next Home game to Southampton ,7 games- 3 home(pool, New castle, soton), 4 away(soton, villa, spurs, stoke). C'mon lads you can do it.

I would prefer too just for defensive purposes but Herrera didnt look that impressive in that last game. I can see Herrera coming off the bench during the game when united are in the lead but i think Mata in the left central midfield where he and Rooney can interchange would be the ideal start, Mata played really well as central midfielder so i dont see why not. Southampton could be without some key players like Tadic and Chad so need to get at them, dont let them settle and keep the ball in their own half.

    - Arsenal hadn't lost at home since the beginning of last season
    - We hadn't won an away game all season

    We beat them

Managed to get tickets for this but will have to hide any joy if we score as I'll have a sea of Southampton fans around me. Can't wait though, not seen United since Fergie left, never seen them lose either so far and I was there at the United Spurs game when we were 2 nil down at half time and came back to score 5 in the second half.so hope that trend continues. Am slightly worried though the way Southampton have been this season it will be very tough. Really hope Falcao gets to start, he needs to play and get scoring as soon as he's fit enough so hopefully that will come on Monday night.

Tbh , all this "poor away form" stuff is bollocks.First 2 away games were before the transfer window ended, we had Cleverly and Fletcher in midfield.Blew it against Leicester (Vardy you c**t ).
Then it was West Brom after an International break where we dominated but a couple of defensive mistakes cost us plus LVG playing an injured Herrera for the first half.
City was another f**k up thanks to Smalling but there were positives there also.
Our away and home performances haven't been as differing in quality as the narrative would have you believe.Wins against Stoke,Everton,West Ham have all been narrow.Even the draw against Chelsea was close.

On-topic: Lets hammer these over-rated feckers

There was me feeling hard done by at having to watch an 8pm game on a Monday, and people are talking about staying up til 1am to watch...
