It's not wrong tactics - he needed Lingard in the middle to press the Southampton defence & prevent them from building from the back.

The only thing Jose got wrong so far was playing Rojo at LB. Rojo is a better player as a CB. I am sure Ashley Young would have done a better job in the LB position than Rojo.
