Is there any information on the travel logistics to get there? They are not in Moldova proper, are they? You have to cross into Transnistria, which is a pro-Russian independent state as far as I know. I wonder how long it takes to get there from Chisinau (I assume that's where the flight is going to).
Good to get this travel out of the way so early!

After the terrible start there can be no resting. Must win game.

They did beat Real Madrid away last year.

Lets not go into this like the clown show we did in Istanbul thinking this will be easy.

I forgot this. I’m going to change my score prediction:nervous::nervous:

They seem to be playing their European home games in Chisinau this season (because of the Ukraine conflict).

The audacity to think that we're back and we can afford to field our B team in the Europa League. Quit tinkering and put out our strongest lineup and wrap it up quick.

Are the players allowed to train or do they just respect the queen for a week? If so we might be in trouble.

After no league game Id expect a strong side.

    De Gea
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Malacia
    Casemiro - Eriksen
    Antony - Bruno - Rashford
    Ronaldo

We have to move on from Ronaldo. He doesn’t make our strongest side.

McT will probably take Casemiro spot

Ronaldo just needs a goal or two to get him going - even the greatest get the jips sometimes

Only Monday morning and the week looks like being a crap one... need United to win - and play a bit - to cheer me up

    There's bats in the belfry
    The windows are jammed
    The toilets ain't healthy
    They don't give a damn

First XI has to come back now that we had the weekend of and given we lost out first match.

    Rash
    Sancho - Bruno - Anthony
    McT - Erik/Cas
    Malacia - Martinez - Varane - Dalot

If we get up 2/3 near half then let's get some others som mins but we absolutely cannot lose this game.

I should care about Europa League. Its extremely arrogant not to. I just don't though.

Without a doubt, besides the Premier League, its the biggest and most important thing we could win this season. However, mentally, it just feels like such a slog. Next May's final seems SO far away I just can't get up for it.

The funnest club name and logo. Whoever thought of it is a marketing genius.

Strong line up, but save McTominay for Sunday. Put Casimir in.

According wiki, the company that owns Sheriff, also named Sheriff, is hardly a business entity that upholds the rule of law. According to wiki, that is.

Let's be honest, until the semi-final the competition isn't great from a Man Utd fan perspective. I couldn't tell you half of the teams we played when we actually won it and I could probably give you detailed analysis of every game in the Champions League run of '99 and '08. I want to win it, but it does feel like an unending competition playing teams that just are not an exciting prospect for Man Utd. But it is where we are at.

    You're right.

Plus, I actually think this could be a tricky game. Madrid underestimated Sheriff and lost to them after all.

The thing is, if we're feeling like this, how must the players be approaching it? Of course, they should be professional. Of course, they should treat every game like they treated Liverpool and Arsenal. However, you wouldn't be shocked to see them going through the motions on Thursday and ending up with a disappointing result would you? Frankly, I can't even blame them given how little investment I have in the competition.

I know its daft. I know in the grand scheme of things the Europa League dwarfs a League Cup or FA Cup in importance. However, you only have to go through half a dozen games to win one of those. The Europa League really does feel like a torturous league, rather than a knockout competition. I wonder if I'd be more bought in if we went back to the old UEFA Cup format of straight knockouts?

There were some good games in the Last 32 last year - (Dortmund vs Rangers / Barca vs. Napoli / Porto vs. Lazio) and it continued from there. The quarters were all decent matches.

Love that - if Erik can’t get De Jong for central midfield, why not play himself there?

If Maguire starts I will conclude that ETH is passing on the EL this season, something I think is wrong.

If Maguire isn't playing then I really want to see Casemiro in the starting 11.

A strong starting 11 and nothing less than a victory is what's needed.

Sounds like the Leeds game is off so play our strongest team here. Hopefully get the result sealed in an hour and then make some subs to try and keep players fresh.

Definitely a recurring thing on here people underestimating other teams. Would take a 1-0 scrappy win here.

It's hardly Real Madrid away though is it? I'd expect our fringe team to win the group, let alone our PL regulars.
I agree mate I just think it’s wishful thinking to have the game wrapped up after an hour.

Of course, but I don't think it would be much of a risk if we were in front to introduce the likes of Fred/Casemiro/Ronaldo/Maguire etc after an hour. We'll need a 2nd pre-season at this rate. It wouldn't surprise me if clubs were arranging behind closed doors friendlies.

Losing the first game leaves us no margin for error whatsoever here. We have to win the group to definitely qualify. Real are definitely going to beat Omonoia - they should've wrapped up warmer then it wouldn't have happened - so if we lose this we'd be six points off the top two after two games.

People talk about giving the youngsters a run out but that's not going to happen now realistically. Unless we're basically out of contention.
