    Must win.

Win this and we're under the radar in the mix for the title. With Tottenham vs L'pool this coming days, one of them or both would drop points.

I was hoping this was our game in hand but there’s a full midweek schedule. Annoying being 1 game behind teams.

Not annoying, just everyone using that to say we are in a bad shape in the league but it’s better to be behind and track then the other way around.

Villa at home on the 2nd.

Edit. I don't know if that's actually the game that was rescheduled since we'd normally play on Jan 2nd anyway. If not, the reverse fixture is not until May 8th which seems odd to go the entire season a game behind.

Not really. In long term, it only puts pressure playing catch up when direct rivals doing well. You have lot of time to let their result to get into your head. Then it be ones must win games.

The game in hand is against Burnley away. Date for that match is still not scheduled but some journalists reckon March before its played?

    Henderson
    Williams - Tuanzebe - Maguire - Telles
    Matic - McTominay
    Mata - VdB - James
    Martial

Subs: Bruno - Rashford - Greenwood - all at 60 minutes, goalfest to ensue

    Sheffield United 0 - 4 MUFC

Honestly, though, Sheffield United can neither score goals nor stop them. I do expect a 0-4 scoreline.

Hm. If I’m looking at this from a betting perspective, I’d put more weight on The Blades games at home and Man United’s away. Given that Man Utd have played two tough games in a week, four in two, I’d probably put money on 0-1, 1-1 and 1-2.

Not annoying at all, seems like the the general consensus here is that the extra game is an extra 3 points for us. So having the game in hand might be more favourable than the actual outcome. Apologies for being a negative nancy, just managing my expectations. :D

It's always been the case in the league to have some teams with a game in hand unfortunately. I don't think it should affect us. The cool part is that it's only 5 pts, and they play each others next week. We can close the gap to 3 pts with a big of luck, i.e. they draw as Jose doesn't want to lose and doesn't need to win.

It happens, but not a situation where you want to be in yourself.

Playing in same match day, you may block yourself out of your rival positive result for the time being and focus in the game. Playing catching up however there is no avoiding hearing the news. Just a bit of extra pressure/distraction can be fatal.

Saying all that. As long as our game in hand can be used to overtake the league leader rather than catching up to them, it's golden, putting pressure instead on them. Hopefully we can achieve that with them dropping points.

Agreed, I had the feeling the game in hand was usually played rather "quickly" but this year, the schedule is going to be problematic.

It's an interesting MD that is coming:
    Wolves vs Chelsea
    City vs WBA
    Arsenal vs Southampton
    Liverpool vs Spurs
    Leicester vs Everton

I genuinely think that winning the game in this MD should push City and us higher up in the ranking and closer to the top since everyone is more or less playing each others. I hope for draws everywhere except us of course.

Special mention to Chelsea: I hope, but do not know, if Wolves can beat them or not. Mendy did his first GK mistake so maybe it can keep happening.

There's literally no room in the calendar at all - I guess we need to wait and see if we make it through the next round of Europe before they can do anything.

If we end up getting to the final of the Europa league we might have to play 2 games in 3 days or something daft.

If Ole and the team haven’t learnt from their experiences this season, this game has the potential to be another tough one similar to West Brom or Istanbul away if we start sluggishly and without motivation (borne out of complacency).

For Sheffield United, this has the potential to transform their season. They’ll be coming into the game with nothing to lose.

I’d take 1-0, with no injuries. 3 points here is vital.

Or to say we're in a good shape in the EPL. Can we change the rules and be january to january EPL champions? More and more like Liverpool years ago.

19-20 January is the available slot they'll most likely use. If we lose to Everton next week then 5-6 Jan is also open.

Since when having played a game in hand is changing the rule? It has always been the case that all games have to be played, so if you have played one game less, you have a chance to win 3 pts. What does that have anything to do with Liverpool? And why should that consider your league position as "bad" when you can basically earn 3 pts more?

I am definitely not following that one.

My theory is we can use this to our advantage. Pretend all games are equal and have that as a bonus.
Itll really feck our rivals up if we overtake them, go 5 odd points clear by March and play this game that they cant reply to.

I fear these games the most because if we can lose against that Istanbul team, anything can happen but I really really hope Bruno gets a rest for this game because he needs it badly. I also hope Maguire and Rashford get to sit out for this game too. This is the team I hope Ole plays,

    Dean Henderson
    Fosu-Mensah Tuanxebe Lindelof Telles
    Matic
    VDB Pogba
    Greenwood Cavani/Martial James

We must be able to win this comfortably by fielding in this team but I'm sure Ole will bring in Mata, Fred, Rashford, Maguire, AWB and give none of them a rest which will screw it all up for the sunday game.

We are most likely going to play it between GW17 and GW19 I think.

Listen, pals. I may not have 27k posts or a very big cock, but I reckon we are going to win this game! By my calculations we have 19 more points than them and have played a game less. Therefore, we are significantly better than them and will win.

Why Thursday? Just seems weird. I thought it was tonight was looking forward to it! Kinda gutted now.

I want to see a positive team selection. We really don’t need to set up with 2 DMs for this one.

    DDG

    AWB
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Telles/Shaw (both good)

    Fred
    Pogba
    Bruno

    Greenwood
    Martial
    Rashford

    4-0, Martial x2, Bruno, Greenwood

Unfortunately “My Scotty shall always play” so it’ll be him in for Fred or Pogba

That would be in Jan, but would be have time? I am sceptical.

If we exit the Carabao cup against Everton, then Jan 5 is the obvious one. But if we advance, then it will most likely be Jan 12 with our Fulham fixture moved to Jan 19.

They could also let us play Fulham Jan 12 with Burnley Jan 19, otherwise they'd have to wait till March 2 or till we exit the FA Cup or Europa League.

Listen, pal. Having 27k posts on an internet forum doesn't make you better than anyone else. People have different opinions to yours. Deal with it you internet gangster. There are several long established members who have said similar.

The fact that some long term members of this forum generally think they're elite is quite sad. In the big bad world away from your keyboard or smart phone, your'e just another peasant like the rest of us.

So keep your 27k posts, I probably have a bigger c*ck than you anyway.

Hopefully they warn you for being smug feck.

I don´t think this is the match to rotate much. It will be 5 days since last match, so use this match to build momentum. The loss to Leipzig is still fresh in mind. McTominay has been playing a lot though, and can sit this one out.

    .................... De Gea

    Bissaka - Lindelöf - Maguire - Shaw

    .............Pogba ....... Fred

    .................. Fernandes

    Greenwood - Martial - Rashford
Or give Rashford a rest and field DVB. Push Bruno further forward

I'd go pretty strong for this one. We have slipped up a lot in this sort of game and Sheff Utd will get their act together at some point. Can rest a few player though.

    I'd go with:

    --------------------------Henderson-------------------------------
    Williams------ Axel------Maguire-------Telles
    ------------------------McTom-----------------------------
    ------------------Fernandes---------Pogba-----------
    Mata----------------Cavani----------------Martial

Take off Fernandes at around 50 minutes if we are winning for DVB and Matic for McTom around the hour mark.

I think De Gea will start as he clearly has pictures of Ole doing something with animals.

Strange league this year, we have been so poor but if we win the next couple of games we really are right in the mix.

Not nice thing to say in sports (and should be avoided) but this will be walk in the park

Sheff Utd are still obdurate and have only lost by more than one goal once at home. This isn’t a match we should take lightly and I’d be very happy with a 0-2 win. 4-0 feels heavily optimistic and probably a stick to beat Ole with if we scrape a narrow win.

Team wise I would go for:

    Henderson

    AWB
    Lindelof
    Maguire
    Shaw

    Fred
    DVB

    Rashford
    Bruno
    Pogba

    Martial

    Hendo
    AWB Tuanzebe Maguire Telles
    Fred Pogba
    VDB
    Greenwood Cavani Martial
Come on Ole have some balls, we just have to go for it in these games. Perfect opportunity to rest Bruno and possibly Rashford.

I expect this will be a tough game for 65 odd minutes.

Then we'll inject a metaphorical steroid into the testes and bulldoze them.

I often find anyone bragging about the size of their member probably has a micro penis... ;)

Anyone wanting us to lose to the likes of these, or more so fecking Leeds (if anyone needs a clue up on United and Leeds 'relationships that is...) is pathetic. They're a twat.

This is one of them games I've an odd feeling about...you feel like it's a chance to turn a poor week around...or just as likely find our week getting worse!

I just hope we start with the confidence you point to. Otherwise questions rightly get asked again about what we are doing on the training pitch.

I'd happily take whatever win moves us on.

Though a performance at the moment would be a tonic!
