Defenders and De Gea keeping us in the game

Midfield and attack has been 1/10, no movement, no fight, lose every 50/50, lose every second ball, cant make a simple 5 yard pass. Credit to Sheffield, they show why they are so hard to beat and why they concede to few goals, but this is simply embarrassing

Half time is big for Ole. If we come out 2nd half and is equally shite the pressure will be on.

One of the worst in living memory.

The players have no idea how to play this system. I've never seen anything like it.
My son, who quite happily watched ‘Boro vs Hull City earlier, is refusing to watch the second half

The problem is the back 3. We're being pushed back easily (especially on the left), and that means our only out-ball is in central midfield rather than fullback. Added to that, central midfield isn't good enough.

I'd swap Garner for Jones and Young for Williams. Then move to a 4-3-3.

Maybe Lingard for Pereira at some point, but ideally we'll keep that last sub open for the Greenwood option.
    100%

the wingbacks need to be higher and the back 3 need to bring the ball forwards. Their high pressure is forcing us back and we can’t pass it fast enough.

anybody else think that’s a foul on jones? You see that given so many other times for other teams.

Ole has to go, breaks my heart the dream of him guiding us to success but reality bites, just because you played under SAF and know the "United Way" doesn't make you a competent coach.

    Poch in.

Ole needs to have a word at Half Time. And get Tuanzebe on for Jones so we have a bit more composure on the ball.

The tactics and formation is there, but the players are a bit shellshocked. Pissing about on the ball too much. I said it before, we need to bypass the midfield - basically Fred and Pereira should not be taking more than two touches on the ball - they should be there to stop Sheffield's midfield completely walking through the middle unchallenged, nothing more.

The penetration should be coming purely from the ball-playing CBs and the wing-backs. But we keep pissing about with the ball and there is no movement from the front three.

You could see Ole on the sidelines at one point telling them to get the fecking ball up the pitch quickly, get in behind.

And I don't know why we're even bothering pressing their backline because they're obviously well-drilled in breaking the press. Just no point engaging with them physically.

The bottom line though, to this post and the game, is Sheffield are just more up for it than our players.

If Ole doesn't change things at half time like players and formation then I'm lost for words. It is pretty clear he's out of his depth and it is horrible to see, but a 4 year old can see these tactics aren't working and need changing immediately.

I’d suggest. Tactical change when in possession of either asking one of the FB to tuck into CM spot occasionally or ask Maguire to step into CM during possession

I dont think that solves the problem. The problem is the lack of movement up front.
Our defenders or midfielders are need to look up and find spaces to pass into when there isnt any created upfront. Tucking into CM will only create more sideways passing.

    What a load of rubbish.

Whenever I start to think I'm seeing the green shoots of recovery with this team they produce something like that.

I'd say that was quite possibly the worst 45 minutes yet under Ole.

And think of the ground that covers.

We'll have lost away to Newcastle West Ham Bournemouth and Sheff Utd. Still got to go away to City, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Leicester and Spurs.

    Brutal season.
We seem to play better against the top teams for some reason. But still yes, i would be surprised if we reached top ten this season

    Really hard half to watch.

In effect playing a 5 man defence v a promoted team and to be honest being played off the pitch.

Our one hope seems to be punting it to a sprinter and hoping they can produce some magic.

Most ineffectual lightweight midfield two you can imagine too.

How Jonesy managed to be ahead of their man and get bundled off it by someone half his size I do not know. You could play that situation 99 more times and he couldn't end up in a worse position.

We'll do exceptionally well to get a goal here, we've had one shot!

Terrible 1st half, nobody seems to even have an idea as to what they should be doing.

Pretty clear foul on Jones for the goal though, how that gets past the officials and VAR is beyond me.:wenger:

Up there with one of our worst halves to date, we’ve been really poor and Sheffield United are looking like prime Barcelona.

Dreadful performance. We can’t even put 2 passes together.

This is a poor performance thus far, irrespective of midfield injuries the team should be more adequate in moving the ball in possession.

I'm worried for everything about the club, it's a shambles.

De Gea was good first half, Wan-Bissaka did okay; the rest were truly dreadful.

This Ole love must die and the fans should do something creative to to put pressure on the board for a managerial change. Ole is out of his depth and with him, we are only going backwards.

    Ole 0

I’m not one to call for sacking the manager in midsession, but if Ole keeps Jones on in the second I’ll have no choice but to call for his sacking.

I’d expect a lot better than this from the manager after 11 months in the job.

That was woeful. Surely the second half cannot be worse.

Fred and Andreas look like drunk pub players.

I wouldn't be against it. He's not an ideal option but at least he's a good player unlike some of the other options. I'd almost rather play a good player out of position than put the likes of a Matic, Mata etc in there.

It's pretty scary times to be honest. Fred and Pereira have been better and looked more confident and focused recently but I really worry about them without a proper leader in there beside them. They've both been so bloody flakey throughout their United careers so far. To be basing a midfield around them in a tough away fixture in late November worries me. I'm curious to what Ole will do with so few options.

    Yep.

Lack any sort of composure on the ball! The problem being the only player who can bring that in - Mata, won't be able to handle the physical nature of their play

The two players Leicester bought, the Turkish cb and Tielemans cost only 64 million. 64 million two players are playing better than anyone we have now.
Teilemans has been a youth superstar on FM for years. Even I knew he had a great chance of making it. We bought Fred instead.

James is the only one in the front 3 that's looked of any use, and even then he has been poor when he's actually received the ball.

Our 'midfield' 2 are being completely nullified, both as an attacking threat and a defensive shield.

And due to our midfield shortage (who predicted that at the start of the season) we are forced to try to improve our defensive solidity by throwing an extra defender at the back. Judging from how uncomfortable everyone it seems like that decision was made as they were leaving the tunnel.

An awful performance. Sadly not a surprising one. This squad is a mess.

and looking at their goal again, I've got a complaint that I've had for a while: DDG used feet when others would use hands... aolthough he has been our best player by miles

Was willing to give him a chance but this is actually just embarrassing. We are well and truly a mid table team where one game we win the next we easily lose. High press my ass, Ole does not know the meaning of it. He keeps saying it needs time, in the one year he has been in charge he has taken us from possibly a top 6 to a top 10 team. Does he need time to take us to relegation? These players are clueless and if he made the decision to not sign anyone, he needs to go. It was clear in the summer how bad we needed players, he has taken the high road nad suggested the money was there. Ole out, Poch in and we can possibly save some dignity this season.

Poch would do no better with this shambles of a team. United need a midfield.

Must say I’d love to see Williams make it but he’s been absolutely awful out there I think. One of the worst on the pitch.
