It was risky and stupid. It's within everyones best interests to not take stupid risks at this level but De Gea and Maguire are both chronic bad decision makers and when you put them both together this happens more often than not.

Slightly different as Eriksen had a man at his back and therefore had to try and play it. Maguire can just let the ball run into open space and advance but tried to play square.

De Gea should be giving Maguire a shout to let him know he can turn into space but not sure if he did or not.

Nope, if 3 men are that close to one player there has to be space out wide, if David had decent passing range he’d have used an option. Like Maguire, he isn’t good enough, and it’s made worse when we try to play it out the back.
