This has FA Cup-tie 'banana skin' written all over it. Norwich's last hurrah, their swan-song before leaving the big-time; live on the BBC on a Saturday against Manchester United, and with some players rested - you can guarantee the whole team will be playing their collective hearts out.

In my opinion it would be wise for us to play a strong team from the start; if it's going to be as easy as some people are suggesting, we can substitute players early, once the game is wrapped up.

Make no mistake, any silverware, including the FA cup would be great for squad development regarding confidence in future 'big games' for this young squad and the manager at this stage of our return to the top in the major competitions.

Any chance we get to pick 5 subs per game? Not that I'll guess them correctly but one has to try.

Yes agree. Hopefully Fred and McT will have something to say about that.

Fred showed his disappointment when he was subbed off before McT in the Spurs game and I personally think he will be hurting/motivated to show that he should be the 3rd midfielder in the Pogba/Bruno.

Ultimately, no matter the team, it will be on Ole to set the tone. He needs to get the team fired up before the game starts and count on our energy to dictate the game.

Norwich played quite naively against us so they may be more determined and shrewd this this,

I was hoping Lingard hadn't been in the first two squads because the plan was to sell him, but from Ole's comments it seems pretty likely he'll play in this game.

I think the GK, back 4 and midfield double pivot are easy calls, and I am pretty sure Igalho will start, but the 3 in behind him could go any way, hopefully Gomes gets some game time.

    Lingard is confirmed to play.
Likely to start because he doesn't play at all so far the two games.

That's the thing isn't it, injury to Bruno and we're back to a mess.. well unless Pogba is given greater license to focus more on freely attacking.

Ole just said he would be involved and that was in reply to a specific question about him. Could mean he's on the bench or carrying the drink bottles.

My guess is that Fred, McTominay, Greenwood, Igalho and James will all start this one. That would make it a toss up between Mata, Jesse and Pereira for the number 10.

Lingard was in the match squad for Spurs so you're not actually paying attention.

    Need to rotate.
    --------------Romero-------
    Dalot--Bailly--Maguire--Williams
    --------Fred---------McTom
    ---------Not Lingard
    Mata-------Ighalo--------James

It's times like this you realize that we still need another option for AM.
Imo Pereira is even worse ...

Not this season so far. He was terrible when played in central midfield, but he was decent (at least compared to the other options at the time) on the right or #10.
Yeah he is better at AM than CM, but that doesn't mean he's any good at AM. He's too slow, both his feets and brain. When he should pass he shoot, vice versa etc. His first touch, anti pressing and keeping the ball are all shocking. Imo he's probably the worst midfielder has ever played for us. Or at least he's up there about.

For Lingard, well at least only his brain is slow imo.

"Jesse has always been a very fit boy and he’s working hard," Solskjaer added. "He is an athletic boy. So now it is time to give him a chance again.

"We know how he has worked. He has had his challenges. Jesse knows what it takes to be a Man United player and he has scored important goals for us. FA Cup final, obviously we remember that.

"Hopefully Jesse can take his chance and we see the best of him again. We know there is a top player there."

It seems very likely he's starting, but then this is Ole who is almost always positive and often lavishly praise anything in interviews.

Yeah that's a man planning to play Lingard but who is very much aware of how he's viewed by the fanbase, and who doesn't necessarily disagree. That's not the sound of a man who's about to offer a new contract.

Romero has kept 11 clean sheets in 14 this season and while his stats are skewed by the fodder of the League Cup and Europa League, he is mainly responsible for keeping United in the FA Cup with that world-class save from Matt Doherty at Wolves in the third round. (MEN)

Back to business today folks. I haven't turned on the TV or radio since Thursday night (I can well imagine what Sky Sports News will be like) and the silence has been lovely. Today's game is a great opportunity for us to progress against a poor Norwich side. We can give some squad players a game, but I wouldn't be making wholesale changes; the cup is our chance to get a trophy. Romero to play; I'd like to see Dan James and big Ighalo play. Is Bailly fit to play? If so, give him a game.

2-0 United. We should be comfortable against Norwich.

I expect nothing less than a 2+ goal win. I imagine the deadwood will be getting minutes and we will rest the starters, I think we'll see Pereira from the start, and Lingard as a sub.

    Romero
    Dalot Maguire Bailly Williams
    Fred Pereira McTominay
    Mata Ighalo James
Mason Deadwood? Bit harsh, the lad’s good

I'm not really bothered about this game. Under normal circumstances, it's a great chance to progress but there's bigger priorities and there's too many good teams still left in it for it to be easily winnable.

If Norwich are full strength, then i don't think this will be as straight forward as people think.

Rest everyone we need for Tuesday:

    Romero

    Dalot
    Lindelof
    Bailly
    Williams

    Fred
    McTominay

    Mata
    Lingard
    James

    Ighalo

    Romero

    Wan Bissaka Maguire Bailly Williams

    Matic. Fred

    Pogba

    James Martial Rashford

Play our best team, get a couple of goals and make the 5 subs accordingly seems the best strategy. Alternatively we can start with the squad players and look to bring in first teamers if necessary, but for me that's riskier.

First of all, Ole, the lads looked in great form on Wednesday. I suppose you've now got a lovely selection dilemma for the weekend?
“Well, first of all, I don't think that performance is making it more difficult. It's the situation we're in, and circumstances. Of course, we're playing so many games in a short space of time, and it's great seeing the players being in form. I know that we've got so many others wanting to play as well, so there will have to be a few changes, because there's a game again on Tuesday and then Saturday. But we're solely focused on this one now. The FA Cup is a great tournament, and we've started the preparations.”

Few you say Ole, how many is few, two, three, five?

Norwich are in a similar situation that they play wednesday and saturday again - so I suspect they might also make changes.

Then again they might just give up on the league and try to get to wembley and give it a shot. Tricky decision for Ole but lets be honest if we can't rely on Lingard/Pereira/Mata then they shouldn't be here any longer. I think it's only fair/right we give them an opportunity to keep their places here, but they MUST grab it. They've all lost their places to better places now so they need to show they have what it takes.

We know Lingard is better than what he's been showing the last 18 months or so, not sure Pereira has that extra level.

You may be right that he will start but I think Jesse is on the way out to be honest. That he's being discussed in the same breath as Smalling and Sanchez is indicative of where his future may lie.

If he could go on one of those crazy runs of form he had previously to the end of the season, it can only be a good thing. It might prompt someone to come in for him with a decent offer.

His fall from grace over the last 12-18 months has been amazing.

I think everyone who has worked with Jesse over the years has indicated that he is a good allround player technically and physicallly, who has pulled himself up to England and United level by a fantastic combo of attitude and confidence. The latter part of his carreer has seen his confidence take a downturn (primarily half way under Mourinho, which has also affected his attitude (A part from a few bumps in the form of focus, social media and that episode, it’s probably a question of dragging an exceptional attitude down to normal, making him a sub-United-level-player). Jesse never was a candidate for a key role at United, but at his best has been a fantastic squad player, when you think about what you could possibly need from a squaddie.

Agree. I fully expected Jesse to be a really useful rotation player at United and to spend the majority of his career at the club. But his form has been so unbelievably poor, it looks like his time at the club is up.

Hiring Raiola as his agent seems to just confirm he's on the way out.

We want to make sure there are no slip ups as a cup double is attandable given our form.

    Romero
    AWB
    Williams
    Maguire
    Bailly
    Mctominey
    Fred
    Pogba
    Mata
    Rashford
    Ighalo

If the team is anything like the one that was on the field at 80 minutes against Sheffield United then it's probably going to be an underwhelming watch.

Perhaps but you can understand the need for it. Wolves have no cup game so they will be fresh. We can't underestimate them in this race either. And we have a gap to close to 3rd and 4th.

I would be annoyed if we can't get the job done today with making 7 or 8 changes. Even if it's not quite as pretty it's about getting the job done and also giving us a good chance on Tues at Brighton.

Personally I would start Pogba and Bruno again, give them more game time, increase the link-up and team confidence, then take them off between 45 and 60mins.
