    Know The Opposition

Newport County Association Football Club (Welsh: Clwb Pêl-droed Cymdeithas Sir Casnewydd) is a professional football club in the city of Newport, South Wales, and currently competes in League Two. Originally nicknamed The Ironsides due to Newport being home to Lysaght's Orb Works steel works, the club started out in the Southern League in 1912 at Somerton Park. The official name of the club was The Newport & Monmouthshire County Association Football Club, although the shorter Newport County was soon adopted. The club were reformed in 1919and were first elected to the Football League in 1920.

The 1980s heralded both the brightest and darkest moments in Newport County's history. Len Ashurst was manager from 1978 to 1982, the club's most successful period in its history and under the chairmanship of Richard Ford. In 1980 Newport won the Welsh Cup, entitling them to play in the 1980–81 European Cup Winners' Cup. That campaign turned out to be quite eventful – the first round against Crusaders of Northern Ireland was won 4–0 on aggregate. The second round against SK Haugar of Norway was even more convincing: after a 0–0 draw away, the home leg was won 6–0, taking the club into the quarter-finals against Carl Zeiss Jena F.C. of East Germany. The quarter-final away leg was drawn 2–2, including his equaliser in the 90th minute. However, despite dominating the home leg, Newport lost 1–0 in front of 18,000 fans at Somerton Park, denying them a high-profile semi-final with S.L. Benfica.

County fans consider their main rival to be South Wales rivals Cardiff City, however, the two sides have rarely met since the 1980s due to the league gap between them. Other rivals, to a lesser extent, include Welsh rivals Swansea City and Wrexham, as well as relatively local rivals Bristol Rovers, Cheltenham Town and Forest Green Rovers. They play their home games at Rodney Parade.

He played Amad up front in pre season a few times and I hope that doesn't happen as I don't think he can show his true qualities there so I expect Rashford/ Hojlund to start.

Not sure why people are putting Forson, Gore etc as he has shown time and time over he won't just play the kids even if it's a lower opposition, I expect something like:

    Bayindir
    AWB Varane Martinez Dalot
    Mainoo Eriksen
    Garnacho Bruno Rashford
    Hojlund

Thats true, but this has to be the weakest team we ever met under Ten Haag? We should beat them with whoever we play who has been training with the first team at least one time.

Then again its us, so might as well the first 11 and grind out a 1-0 victory.

I wouldn't play our full strength 11 but I suppose his line of thinking is we need a resounding victory here, chance to get a few goals and make some early subs - headlines if we play the kids and don't win several nil we are in trouble.

A good chance to regain some match fitness for those that have been out.

    Bayindir
    AWB Varane Martinez Shaw
    Mainoo Casemiro
    Amad Mount Garnacho
    Höjlund

Understand Maguire, Lindelöf, Malacia and Martial are still injured. If not, those should get minutes as well.

Full strength team please. They need the practice.

Just scrolled up and realised my team would be the same as @Njord's team.

Love games we can dominate, they are few and far apart these days.

I would do this also and then play Bruno, Rashford etc in the Wolves game 3 days later. But Then Haag is terrible at rotation so will play the same first XI 3 days later.

    What I hope to see:
    Bayindir
    AwB - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    Mainoo - Casemiro
    Amad - Mount - Garnacho
    Højlund
    What I expect to see:
    Bayindir
    Dalot - Varane - Martinez - Shaw
    Eriksen - Casemiro
    Garnacho - Bruno - Rashford
    Højlund

    Bayindir
    Dalot-Kambwala-Martinez-Shaw
    Mainoo-Eriksen
    Antony-Bruno-Rashford
    Højlund

This is most likely what we would see.
    - First Bayindir game
    - minutes to Kambwala (probably last time this season)
    - Martinez and Shaw to gain match fitness
    - Eriksen to support Mainoo in midfield
    - Antony, Højlund and Rashford to gain confidence against a lower league team

Can we put Antony on the left so he has to use his right leg if he cuts in for a shot

Amad first start of the season please and thank you!

Lets make it difficult for them lads!

Think it'll be similar to the Wigan game - we'll largely dominate without being too great. Won't be as wasteful though I don't think.

3-1... Think they might get a goal so they have something to celebrate.

Newport have had some decent results in the last few years. ETH will go strong as he will be scared we blow it.

    Whats wrong?
Probably the fact that one of the players won’t be at the club, the zero chance of him playing Gore alongside Mainoo and the chances of Forson even been in the squad .
We have players returning from injury who need minutes .

It's a tough one for Ten Hag. Does he play Martinez, Casemiro or Shaw in this to return, or does he rest them for the game against Wolves where they have to get up to speed instantly.

See how he plays it. I'd rather he kept them recovering and building until the Wolves game.

    Altay
    AWB Varane Kambwala Dalot
    Eriksen Mainoo
    Garnacho Amad Rashford
    Hojlund

If and when we go ahead in the game, make as many subs as possible to rest players starting Vs Wolves.

Well, its what i hope for anyway. I know its not likely.
Casemiro can sub for Mainoo at HT, same as Mount for someone.

Hoping to see a slightly different team but no doubt he will just go with he same old.

    I'd play:

    ----------------------------Bayindir-------------------------
    Dalot----------Kambwala---------Martinez----------Shaw
    -------------------Mainoo--------Casemiro
    Amad---------------------Bruno------------------Anthony
    -----------------------------Hojlund-----------------------

I think that's a good mix of youth, experience, players needing game time and quality. I'd also love to see Anthony on the left to see if he can get past his man and cross a ball.

    What i'd expect:

    --------------------------Bayindir--------------------------
    Dalot----------Varane-------Lindelof--------Shaw
    -------------------Mainoo---------Mctom-----------
    Garnacho----------------Bruno--------------Rashford
    -------------------------------Hojlund----------------------

    I'd be rotating heavily here.

We have Wolves & West Ham in quick succession after it. If our bench can't beat Newport they shouldn't be here.

Some minutes for returning players with a view to get them subbed early (also side is dependant on no more departures).

    Bayinder
    Kambwala - Evans - Martinez - Dalot
    Casemiro - Eriksen
    Amad - Mount - Pellistri
    McSauce

First team won't have played for two weeks. Why on earth would you rest anyone for this?

Start Kambwala and Amad maybe but the rest should be near full strength.

Good opportunity to hopefully get Martinez and maybe Mount 60-90 minutes.

Some of the teams selected on here are bat crazy .

Play with pretty much best team or maximum 2-3 changes. We need players to get going and these kind of games should be good to start with.
