Why are we always dreadful after international breaks? Can’t believe so many were so confident for this game

As usual, away to better teams we are outplayed completely.

It's not news anymore but this is what will determine if Ten Hag has serious balls.

He needs to find a controlling midfield at all cost in the summer.

Today, by halftime we should be 3 nil down.

How people don't see Midfield is our biggest problem is a mystery to me.

You can't win football games when you don't control games.

I trust the manager will solve this glaring issue in the summer

Wout McT front 2 is absurd, what the hell is Ten Hag smoking?

Yea bit mental. Difficult not to have a go at ETH for this. The feck is he thinking? Might as well bring back Fellaini

The lineup is baffling. I have no idea what Weggy is offering in advanced areas that Fred couldn't and if Scottie is playing it needs to be as a massive downgrade on Casemiro as opposed to as an 8/10 hybrid.

Surely a half fit Antony Martial is a better option than a headless chicken Wout Weghorst. The guy just has no ability on the ball whatsoever. Thank feck it’s only a loan till the end of the season!

How, one of the worst players in the PL and Europe in WW, can play week in, week out without being threatened to be benched
Because he came in as a last resort fix for our up front position. He's literally the only healthy striker that we can put out there, if you can call him a striker that is.

Do we activate Martial's final 45 minutes of the season today or wait for a better occasion?

How, one of the worst players in the PL and Europe in WW, can play week in, week out without being threatened to be benched

If Martial stays fit WW will be benched. The problem is it isn't happening at the moment. I think ETH clearly feels Rashford is better from wide which is why he usually only moves him to CF in the second half is the usual tactics aren't working

The persistence with Wout really does make it difficult to get upset with performances like that one. EtH has a stubborn streak which is great when it works but this continuation with Wout is boneheaded.

Weghourst provides nothing, absolutely nothing. Cannot hold up the ball despite his size. Understand we were skint and needed bodies, but ETH definitely needs to change something so as to not have to play him so often. Maybe an impact sub last 15 mins, but that's it.

But Weghorst's goal celebrations and tears are just as good if not better than Lukaku's. Legend. What pashion.

That to a good number of fans seems to mean he's good enough to start for us every single game. Literally every single game since he joined.

Thanks to Newcastle atrocious finishing we are still level in this game but my word our passing has fallen off the cliff these last couple of months. I cannot see how any players on the pitch or bench can make any positive contribution if they simply cannot find their teammate with the ball.

I'd have settled for a draw before the game and it's fair to say nothing I've seen has changed my mind. It's been a pretty painful watch, and I'm still pretty terrified we could collapse just before the finish line and be left with nothing other than the league cup.

In this game I'd like Wout off for anyone with more legs and more of an eye for goal and Fred should come on in favour of Sabitzer. I obviously hope we pick it up but if we play the same half again and sneak off with a draw I'd honestly take it.

Really poor stuff by us. Think we're very lucky to be in at half time on 0-0. Disappointing.

Weghorst for Martial, Fred for Antony. Play with two forwards (Rashford and Tony) and make the rest drop back and slug it out in midfield. We are crap so we have to slug this out to have any chance. The nore we try to play the greater the chances of this being a massacre.

Not sure tactically what the plan was in midfield for this match but it’s not working. We seem to have vacated the DM position, Sabitzer popping up on the left at times, Bruno all over the place, McTominay playing high. We’ve had no control. Get Fred on for Weghorst or McTominay, drop Sabitzer in from of the back 4 and try and build from there

I am not "play the kids!" type of fan but seriously, we must have some decent striker in academy?

It's especially infuriating because Weghorst is on loan, so any experience he gets out of this is of no value to us. If we bring in a kid from the youth ranks, there's a chance it might be the spark that he needs to prove himself. Even if that didn't happen, it's plainly impossible for anybody to do any worse than Weghorst who is literally completely useless, we're effectively playing with ten men since he arrived.

A top striker takes the Weghorst chance and we go in 1-0 up.

Getting a top striker this summer is priority number one.
