Quality isn't great but it's good to see more dynamism about the performance, tempo of our play is decent.

Worst possible start but responded well and should get another if we continue like that. Mata and Bruno are linking up well and James is looking a lot more confident than he has in some time too.

Pleasantly surprised by that to be honest.

James was good imo, just has no end product. Mata, despite being ancient is still the only player in our team with real footballing IQ besides Bruno. Fred and McTomminay both very solid and did what a bloody CM is supposed to do.

Payed close attention to Maguire and he was immense all game. Watch closely now as i jinx him and he makes a howler in the 2nd

Classic poisonous match day thread, always wonder why I come back to look.

James is so desperate to succeed. His best game for a long time. A bit now composure required though.
4 shots, nothing to trouble the keeper. But he is finding space. It's a good sign.

If Ole wants to save his job, I believe in matches like this he has to look elsewhere at RB. AWB has so much space because we're so dangerous on the left, but teams might as well take a rest when the ball gets to him as the odds of anything happening are near nil. All it really does is create a counter opportunity because he tends to be so far up the pitch when he inevitably loses it.

Williams, Laird - heck do the Fergie thing and put an attacker there. But this experiment of playing without a football at RB is really not working out.

Decent half, looking much more solid. Mata, Rashford, Maguire and McT playing well.

Decent half? It's been better as the opposition aren't tearing us to shreds every 5 minutes. But come on, our football and 'system' still looks like amateur level stuff. We'll probably win but that's more indicative of how awful Newcastle look. They look totally disinterested in going forward which is classic Bruce. Mata had a very good half and was enjoyable to watch.

Mata and Bruno have been the best players in the side. Pogba or VdB for Fred please.

Leave Fred alone. If you are making that sub McTominay goes off.

Anywho we are a bit better but we are still crap.
Much better than as of late cuz Ole made the proper midfield adjustment. Matic and Pogba cant play together and Pogba shouldnt start anymore.

Sadly (is it?) I'm not watching cos of work. Just following online. So who does Pogba need to come in for to ensure we win the game second half? Or is it Greenwood/VDB? Or are we doing enough to ensure that already?
    Greenwood not on the bench.

A very low quality match. We have been decent, but can't say I'm impressed considering how poor Newcastle have been.

Newcastle have been atrocious. They don't even look remotely like they are setup to attack. Their passing and first touch has been really poor.

I think it emphasis the mid-table level of some of the players in our team. At least, it isn't as bad as the other three games.

James is desperate to make an impact on this game. He's trying hard as he knows he's under pressure to perform. Unfortunately he's ignoring players in better positions to go for goal instead.

James looks lively and happy for Harry scoring. That Mata/Bruno connection looks the best chance for a goal though.

After that start, I actually think we've been ok/goodish.

Happy for our captain. He seems eager!
yeah good goal for Maguire, it will help his confidence.

And we do have a midfield with Fred and McT. Thanks God.

Really agree, there's something extremely threatening about him when he runs with the ball, defenders look terrified. How he lost that for a calendar year is a mystery, but it's nice to see it back.

watching the Newcastle goal again the only fault was how easy they ran through our midfield

there is zero culpability on Shaw or DDG, for me

Greenwood isn’t on. Not even on the bench

Fred/McT or Mata are the obvious candidates but their work rate is higher than Pogbas

AWB is the worst player in the PL and Im not even exagerrating. He is shockingly bad as a footballer, he cant do anything well at this level except for tackling. His first touch is shocking. Doesnt have the football brain. He cant do anything well.

I think we've been pretty decent in that half. Totally in control, creating chances, most of our starters have been good. 100% agree that Mata has given us more impetus than we've had out of Pogba so far. Fred poor in possession but himself and Scott certainly give us a more solid base.

Just looking at the comments from the OG. Not sure how DDG is to blame at all? Literally nothing he can do

I mean compared to what's been served up so far this season? Yeah I'd say decent...

I mean the fact that we haven't looked like conceding about 12 goals is a big plus.

A comical bad start. I actually had to laugh at it. Felt resigned to a torrid night then. Its been better than I expected from that part and we weren't too bad. Not good, it we've seen worse.

Nice For Maguire to score with the time he's had. If course he's had criticism for others reasons but hopefully he gets a bit of confidence from it. Shame the Fernandes goal was ruled out but obviously the right decision. Need to push on and get the win desperately.

Newcastle are awful and aren't even pressing which has completely played into our hands. Anything less than a win will be hugely dissapointing IMO.

Starting to think the stories that Ole didn't want him are true which is bad in more ways than one.

If we are a club that are buying players without the manager's input we are totally screwed as a club
Even if he's not Ole's choice he is obviously a very good talent that should see more opportunities than what he's received so far.

Is it as simple as James prefers left hand side or has he actually improved something. Night and day difference to previous games for James.

I'd like to see us suffer through Fred's passing for a few games in hope he gets going like last year.

The fact that we need Scott and Fred to give us a solid base against Newcastle says everything about our current situation.

Bruno and Mata are the only ones with football brains. They link up well together while our brain dead players like James and Rashford just run and shoot when there are better options around them. AWB similarly has no idea what to do in possession. Very frustrating!
