Would prefer Januzaj for Fellaini, 433, di Maria in midfield.

    DeGea
    Valencia Smalling Evans Rojo
    Blind
    Herrera diMaria
    Januzaj Rooney Young

With Shaw coming in and Rojo for Evans I'd say that's our best team. If you unleash di Maria.

I looked back on our 4-0 win against Newcastle away under Moyes last season, it was our 4th away win in a row. Imagine that, 4 away wins!

If we could combine Moyes' away form with Van Gaal's home form we'd be champions.

I havent yet worked out how he is going to use Fellaini to beat the pressure. I always thought the best way to handle pressure and pressing was high ball speed 1 and 2 touch passing. Is he thinking of going over the top instead of playing out from the back.?
Even Guardiola used Martinez as a target man for high balls to beat Dortmund's pressure and skip the midfield. This idea that top teams always play a passing game on thr ground for 90mins every game is very strange indeed,

Agreed in defence, but when in possession it might be more like:

    de Gea
    Smalling - Blind - Evans
    Valencia---------Herrera ------- Rojo
Di Maria ---- Fellaini ---- Young
    Rooney
I don't know, Blind was quite adventurous in this formation against Sunderland so it's fair to say he's allowed to join the attack more than in 3-5-2 or in the diamond before.

Hell, if we're going to spam crosses from the wings I'd rather have Fellaini there instead of Falcao.

We're not going to do that. We will do the same as we have done every game, and hoof the ball long to him. If we did it to Falcao rather than waiting to play him into space, we could have maybe seen more of the skill he produced last week and maybe more goals.

I like the lineup on paper and there finally seems to be some consistency. I hope afro plays in midfield and Young and Di Maria are flanking Rooney but I doubt that's the case

From the order of this team sheet it looks like 4-2-3-1 to me with Fellaini the centre of the 3. Good to see falcao on the bench, Di Maria is lucky to be starting after the Sunderland game. But the only way to get back in good form is to play I suppose. If he doesn't play well in the first half he'll be off at half time again

I think Januzaj's exclusion is purely so that if things aren't going well he can come on and turn the game around again.

Evans again....the fact he was ok last game was just a pure fluke and long overdue. But he is garbage. Lol that Jones is on the bench behind this guy.

really like Fellaini working with Rooney. Expect both to score tonight. COME ON UTD!!!

It's better he's starts these sort of away games rather than coming on as sub if we need a goal. Mata plays better in home games for some reason anyway. The problem with Fellaini though is the fact that he's not good with the ball at his feet so every time we pass to him he struggles, dragging the team's attacking play down with him.

With the lack of a FIFA game simulation from newbie Pentame this week, I've taken the liberty of simulating tonight's match to undesirable results...

Had a quick peek on some newcastle forums and they seem to be putting money on Rooney scoring

The simulation above would be great to see Gutierrez to make his return scoring a last minute winner against us. Wouldn't be great for LVG's job though

To be fair, while Evans has largely been shite, it's not as if Jones has been brilliant either.

Great to see him return, not to score a winning goal against us, that's ridiculous.

Norwegian tv is showing that we are playing a proper 4-3-3. Is that correct?

And Fellaini is 100% upfront. I think its gonna work.

I'm not a fan of it in that I hope it's not LVG's long-term plan for the next few years, but I'll happily take it for the moment if it can work well.
