So much pessimism. Newcastle are terrible right now and Benitez is openly saying they will likely be relegated. We should be winning handsomely.

If Alexis is back in I think he replaces Rashford, since he went off as a precaution in the last game. Probably a good moment to ensure he recovers for the Reading and Spurs games.

Really hope Sanchez starts today. There's probably a bit of fatigue in our squad considering how many games we've played recently. It would be good to see him attack down a flank

hope the sanchez starting rumours are true, really want to see how he performs in a more attacking team

Nah not really, they’ve been in free fall for weeks. Newcastle away is a much trickier game.
Newcastle are absolutely fecking dreadful and bereft of confidence. It’s a nice fixture as the home crowd will be on their back if they start slow.

    Confirmed squad news

No pictures of the squad leaving for Newcastle yesterday but Ander Herrera posted this on his Instagram story which appears to confirm five squad members.

None of which are a surprise.

    Bournemouth and Newcastle are tests?

The Spurs game and our first loss are our first tests. Which may come at at the same time.

The reason the previous manager got sacked was because he made these standard wins look like hard fought games which made our standards drop. We should always handily beat relegation candidates home and away.

This. Anything can happen when two clubs meet but we really should batter Newcastle today.

Only a guess, but my guess Sanchez comes on in the second half.

I hope the news is true of Sanchez starting. He must be chomping at the bit to get going.

Who is the guy on the left?

People are worried about Newcastle? We are going to wipe the floor with them. Calma calma.

First test for Ole. Interested to see how we get on. Another must win game
Every game is test for Ole, I guess people will say same crap before every game.
Why can't people just be happy for the changes, looking forward to a game, and optimistic for the future.
oh, btw, happy New Year, Jose.

Do you remember what happened when signing Sanchez resulted in Martial playing out on the left last year?

Do you remember what happened when Rashford bummed half the Bournemouth team inside the first 5 minutes the day before yesterday?

Don't remember seeing that from him on the right last year either...

Sanchez's issue is that he needs people around him, who:
1, press (Sanchez presses, but if nobody else helps him, there is not point in pressing)
2, is prepared to receive and make quick passes, to/from him

Under Jose, we saw that both of the above were not occurring.
Under Solkjaer (in the 3 games in charge), we have seen both of the above.

Sanchez does not have any excuses for not performing, under Solkjaer, so I really do hope that he delivers the goods and orchestrates our attacks, while guiding the youngsters around him, because as yet, we have not seen any of this at MUFC.

    Same here.
True that. If not straight away he should gradually be getting into his comfort zone. He could become a catalyst for the team.

Just seen that we’re on 10 points off second with a win tonight

(Potentially up to 12 depending on City but very reachable)

Why are people so negative all of a sudden? Yeah, Newcastle away has always been a tricky fixture for United but with all the positivity and confidence in the squad at the moment I can't help but feel really excited for the game! Hope we trash them!

Fair enough, if we have to give the ex-arsenal mercenary another few games to finally prove that his best (overpaid) days are long since behind him. then so be it.

Get an early goal and we'll tonk them 4-1.

    No early goal, 2-1 win.
