Ah shit, the rotate brigade are back out in force. Thank feck ten Hag doesn't listen to the Caf.

Heaton/Butland, Lindelof, Maguire, Malacia, Sabitzer, McTominay, Sancho, Garnacho all start for me.

Mainoo getting some minutes would be decent.

We should rotate but not too much. Whit has to be won just as every other game.

Maybe Martial will be fit for this one.

    Just kidding.

Whilst I'm all for momentum, squad is there for a reason...

Tough for the same 11-13 to keep playing every 3 days and not see some sort of effect surely?

Perhaps not as drastic as I suggested...

What's wrong with rotation when it's obviously and visibly clear some of our main players looking absolutely knackered because of the insane amount of football they have played?

Time to take a gamble in the interest of the bigger picture and rest Bruno, Rashford, Shaw, Casemiro, Varane & Martinez for the Liverpool game. They’ve played a huge amount of football recently. Some of them can come off the bench if we’re struggling.

Lads, it's hard to get any consistent cohesion and flow in the team if you keep resting most of the team. We also know what happens when wholesale changes are made, we simply don't have the squad to be resting everyone.

If they want a rest, they can keep the ball. Manage the game effectively and you won't have to do that much high intensity running, just the forward line.

We just won a cup. We just tasted how good is to win something. We just saw how much it means to players and manager.
Few hours later; "feck FA cup. Play kids". Ffs

Liverpool at the weekend is 10x more important. Especially after winning in Europa and winning today.

Rashford was totally dead out there, zero chance he can start vs West Ham. Fred needs a rest. Varane probably does as well.

Sancho, Garnacho and Sabitzer could and should all start.

Are they actually looking knackered though, or do we just think they should be with the brutal fixture list? I’ve personally not really seen any signs of it, yet.

    Weghorst

That's a perfectly good team to beat WH at home.

Still have Elanga and Pellistri to switch it up if needed.

    I wouldn't rotate too much

    De Gea

    AWB Varane Martinez Malacia

    Casemiro Sabitzer

    Antony Bruno Garncho

    Wout
Bring on Rashford, Sancho, McTom, Fred as needed.

    Heaton
    AWB - Lindelof - Martinez - Malacia
    Casemiro
    Sabitzer - Bruno
    Sancho - Weghorst - Garnacho

    2-1 to the Reds.

A lack of rotation killed us two years ago.

I wouldn't go crazy but west ham at home in the cup is definitely the time to rest some of our more important players. Varane, casemiro, Bruno and rashford could all be rested and we would still have a strong team. This is exactly the sort of game where we should be looking to give players like lindelof, maguire and mctominay minutes. Not to mention malacia, sancho and garnacho who are all players who could start for us.

    De gea
    Awb
    Lindelof
    Martinez
    Malacia
    Mctominay
    Sabitzer
    Sancho
    Garnacho
    Antony
    Weghorst

Is still all first team players and rests a lot of key ones.

There is every chance west ham rotate as well considering they are in a relegation battle.

Everyone knows rotation is vital and yeah that's what squads are for. But rotation and fielding weakened teams are another story.

It's when people say, this game/cup is more important than that one so play the reserves or kids that really grinds my gears.

You just have to go game by game and put out the strongest possible team to win it, not simply rotate for the hell of it.

I'm sure the medical staff and ten Hag will be aware of the condition of players before each game and we do have some positions where rotation is less of an issue.

It's just the dumb line-ups that can just feck off.

We were incredibly sloppy in the second half against Newcastle and it seemed to me that towards the last 30 minutes Rashford and even Bruno didn't really have the energy to press

We need a total rest of the squad. The excitement of just winning a cup will send us through the next phase even if we change 10-11 players. We need them all fresh for Liverpool. Hopefully Martial is back.

I don't think West Ham, being in a relegation battle would have much interest in this tie either. A reserve side should still have enough to get us through.

    Butland
    Dalot Maguire Lindelöf Malacia
    McTominay Sabitzer
    Pellestri Sancho Garnacho
    Martial

Start out with a strong team, rest a few, get a early lead and then rest more in the second half:

    De Gea
    AwB - Lindelöf - Martinez - Shaw
    Fred - Casemiro
    Bruno - Sabitzer - Garnacho
    Rashford

DDG, Shaw, Maguire, Martinez, AWB, McTominay, Sabitzer, Bruno, Garnacho, Weghorst, Antony.

    What is the bigger picture?

Casemiro has just missed 3 games through suspension.

Other than possibly Rashford (performance has dropped off in last 2 games) I don’t really think anyone looks like they need a rest.

I think we started sluggish last night. We held on until Newcastle becoming more tired and the 2nd half we dominated like usual.

You obviously need new glasses or probably even new eyes.

How you're supposed to rotate, which means replacing your best players with squad players without weakening the team?

It's simply baffling to ask the players to keep playing full matches every 3 days non stop. If we do so there'd be injures and guess what, it'd probably be the very same people who'd criticize ETH for running his best players into the ground. Simply baffling.

We're not talking about whole sale changes here. That's not how football works. But to be against even the idea of rotation and ask the players to play full matches every 3 days for a whole season is simply madness.

Anyway this conversation would go no where I feel. So better agree to disagree then or it'd be simply a waste of time.

I'd like to see at least some of the first XI rested, maybe bring them on for the last 30mins if needed.

It isn't even a case of rotating versus trying to win the game. With this fixture pile-up our best chance of winning is with some rotation, as some of our players look very tired.

Also, West Ham are 16th in the PL for good reason. This isn't a game where we should need a full strength team and our next game is at Anfield a few days later.

A team with Garnacho, Sancho, Sabitzer, Lindelof and Malacia starting should still be fine.

Absolutely rest Varane/Martinez/Fred/Rashford/Bruno…it’s not like a few years back, the quality of our bench is great…Sancho, Garnacho and Antony are no joke…and what a chance for them to stake a claim to a staring spot against Liverpool. This is what it’s about - genuine competition.

Would go with something very similar. But maybe Casemiro doesn't need to sit this one out, as he did have a 3 match rest recently.
Possibly start with him instead of McTom, but otherwise, as per your line up.
Assuming he's planning on starting Wan Bissaka at Anfield.

It's another big game so we will play a strong team. It is a squad game though, so I expect some rotation.

    ------------------------------------------------------De Gea-----------------------------------------------
    Dalot-------------------------------Varane-------------------Maguire-----------------------Malacia
    ----------------------------------------Casemiro---------------Sabitzer----------------------------
    Sancho----------------------------------------------Bruno--------------------------------------Garnacho
    --------------------------------------------- ---------Weghorst------------------------------------------------

Expecting something like this to start the game. Bruno tends to play pretty much every game and doesn't seem to get too fatigued. Martinez may well play, but he took a nasty bang to the head in the final so I'd probably rest him.

Rashford / Anthony off the bench if we're struggling. Varane, Casemiro and Bruno to get an early rest if we're winning

Against Liverpool I'd expect it will be:

    ---------------------------------------------------------------De Gea----------------------------------------------------------
    AWB--------------------------------Varane--------------------------Martinez-----------------------------Shaw
    -------------------------------------------------Casemiro----------------Fred--------------------------------------
    Anthony--------------------------------------------------Bruno---------------------------------------------Rashford
    -------------------------------------------------------------Weghorst------------------------------------------------------

I'd prefer Sancho or Garnacho on the left with Rashford up top, but you can't argue with ETH at the moment.

We were incredibly sloppy in the second half against Newcastle and it seemed to me that towards the last 30 minutes Rashford and even Bruno didn't really have the energy to press

EtH is known for employing the rest defence process like Jose used to do. We don't press every game, and against teams like Newcastle who arent averse to pumping it long, a high press doesnt make a lot of sense. I know @Strelok has his own opinion that we were knackered, but for me EtH told them to defend and press deeper than normal and hit on the counter which is pretty much what we did. I didn't see any concerted attempt to employ our usual high press really at any stage yesterday, unlike Barca midweek. Some will say due to tiredness, personally I think EtH is managing the squad in his own way and employed different tactics to usual.

That all being said, i do feel a couple of the players could do with break which i said in my earlier post. Rashford is showing some signs of wear and tear, and Varane too, both of them seem prone to strain injuries which overplaying will cause, other who suffer the same like Sancho and Antony have had breaks recently and dont need one currently. Certain players like Bruno & Martinez want to play every game and are more than capable of it.

I think Varane, Casemiro, Rashford, Fred, AWB will be rested.
    I can see ETH picking

    De Gea
    Dalot Lindelof Martinez Malacia
    McT Sabitzer
    Bruno
    Sancho Elanga Garnacho
