Happy to be out of the league cup tbh. We need to focus on the important stuff.
We have a different 11 that focus on the important stuff. Now we only have the FA Cup for this lot to get games and if they go out early we just have players on huge money that train with the starting side every week.

Then Bayern were the better team in THAT Champions League final. They weren't. The game is about goals

I thought it was pretty widely accepted that Bayern were better, much better.

To say automatically that the team who wins is the better team is far too simplistic, it's quite possible to be the better team and not score.

As for tonight, I'd say it was pretty even, with us being the more progressive team by a mile but lacking cutting edge. Put Ronaldo or Cavani up front and I think we'd have had a comfortable win.

It'll be infuriating if top 4 is enough for him to survive. I'd sack him for not making it out the CL group, clearly I'm ruthless....

I remain of the opinion he's taken us as far as he can.

He's got nowhere to hide this season, bar the lack of DM (I'd like to know how much he pushed for one) given the players he's got, he's been backed this season
I’d love to see him as DOF. I think he’s a great team builder, but I’m with you, I just don’t think he’s ever going to take us over the hurdle when it comes to actually winning things. I’ve seen nothing in the 3 years he’s been here that tells me he’s going to challenge for the league right until the end or go deep into the champions league, and with the squad we have those should be minimum requirements.

If we crash out in the group stage again I think he’s gone. The uproar would be massive. Plus I don’t think Ronaldo & Varane would take kindly to playing Europa league football for the first time in their career.

It’s a tinpot cup. I didn’t give a toss when we won it under Mourinho.

You have a strange lack of knowledge about football history. Both Mourinho (Chelsea) and Guardiola (City) announced themselves to the English game by winning the League Cup as the first step prior to their spells of domination.

The better team in the rules of football is the team that scores the most goals. Not the one with the most chances. Nor the one with most possession. It is about goals. It is as simple and straightforward as that. History shows we won the Champions League. And you can only win it by being the better team. And WE WERE

Yep, they will surely convert all those gilt edged chances we created today
You would be surprised how much different things are when a proper CF is around and defences don't just need to keep a bunch of fancy wingy midfieldery twats taking hopeful shots from range.

Good to hear that VdB is playing well! Hoping it happens for him this season. Not surprised by Sancho as I still think he'll need a lot of time until he starts performing the way we hope he'll perform. I'm fully prepared for an underwhelming first half of the season, maybe even more than that, but it'll pay off, I hope.
Sancho was better second half, though, so overall, a decent performance.

No it’s your constant moaning and potshots at OGS in every single thread.
I give him credit & criticism wherever it’s due. I’ve said he’s a great team builder, I said his substitutions changed the game on Sunday. I give him plenty of praise when deserved.

How do you know so much about my post history anyway? You joined less than a month ago. Suspect that.

The rules don't state anything about a better team. The winner is decided by most goals. The winning team being automatically the better team is far too simplistic for me, so we'll have to agree to disagree.

Never get the mentality of that. It's not as if we are in a position to pick and choose which competitions we want to win

Exactly. If we were to win the league or CL this season, which I'm certain we won't, it would be 9 and 14 years respectively since winning either. We are not a trophy winning team anymore and this was the trophy I was actually confident about us potentially winning and getting a mentality change within the squad and first major title for Ole.

Ole’s taken this cup very lightly for someone with no silverware. It’s definitely one less safety mat for him in case the league or CL doesn’t go his way.

More importantly, it is one less competition for our kids to have a go with the first team. All of that because most of our non-Academy second-string players are absolute shite.

Martial’s not a fecking footballer full stop. Disgusting performance from him, get him out of the club.
It is his attitude that galls me. He was going thro the motions out there. And yet Ole hooks Lingard. If anyone thinks the Norwegian legend knows what he is doing ...explain this.

I'd offer Dortmund £100 for Haaland or £125 plus Martial. It's like playing with ten men. To think Greenwood has to play out on the right to have him at CF is diabolical.

They couldn’t get the win, so that’s that. It is really not important to be in this cup. If we progress, it becomes an distraction.

That is what i find incredible. Alongside the non subbing of the wretched Martial in favour of Lingard. Here is a chance to win silverware.....spurned, yet again

    Another nonsensical decision by Ole

I'm not going to diss the LC but it certainly isn't a trophy that makes any difference to keeping the job or not.

I thought it was good to rotate and have a feel for options he isn't willing to risk in PL/CL games. I'm not particularly keen on running the first XI into the ground.

    Agreed.

If we were City then we have the luxury of prioritising competitions.

OGS put out a weakened team and doesn't matter how he tries to spin it but he accepted the risk that we might lose. Let's be honest, we put out our full strength team against this lot a few days ago and we struggled

This would be correct if everything on the pitch happened with intention and there were no such thing as luck. Or wrong decisions by the ref. You cannot say the winner = the better. In the olympics, i.e. an Australian ice skater won gold after every skater in front of him ended up falling in a big clash right before the goal line. Since he was last by quite some distance, he avoided it and won gold. You would say he was the better skater?

Even SAF said Bayern were the better team that game.

The result only determines who scored the most goals, not who were the better team.

    Trophies are for the ego
Say that to Mourinho during his first spell at Chelsea or Guardiola at City. Their respective periods of dominance began with a League Cup; it's about breaking the ice. Ole has a problem if he thinks that some trophies don't matter.

Oh man. This 'doesnt matter' narrative is precisely why we are serial losers under Ole.

Well that’s one narrative. I have never been happy to progress in this cup. So that’s not about Ole.

That said, it wasn’t a shit match. We just didn’t show enough in the final third. Move on and be happy imo.

Don’t be daft. I am not bothered about you or your post history. Just tired of the negativity and have noticed it in multiple threads.

Done with this conversation now. Boring.

I am not that bothered at this stage. I am more bothered about how abysmal Martial in and that Ole thinks he can turn him round.
Ole is just a nice guy, he says things people want to hear. Martial will get nowhere near our team in games that matter, and rightfully so. Once Cavani is back he shouldn’t even make the bench.

VDB showed why he won't get first team football. Was simply out of his depth.
Bailly showed absolutely no initiative or idea with the football.
Sancho still has to show that he is better than Dan James.
Telles will never challenge for a first team place.
Martial - absolutely a waste of time and space.

Mata showed more skill and idea than any of them when he was on the pitch and he is probably old enough to be most of their fathers.
