There's no point in trying to stretch them out of shape if you can't be quick on the attack.
Who could criticise West Ham for playing like this?
It's been proven demonstrably and without doubt that teams that sit behind the ball, regardless of quality, have a better chance of beating us than if they set up to attack us.
Moyes has to set his side out to win. The best way to beat us is to sit deep and counter............because it's more effective than any other method versus us.
I’m not giving Bissaka any criticism. He is what he is. But right now, with us totally controling game a change to Diallo could put more pressure. James is very good defending so I don’t think We would Lose anything by making that sub.I'd effectively be playing two the back. Shaw and James high and wide. Rash amad close to Greenwood. Bruno in the hole.
Fred and mct have to be awake to the counter.
Even Williams who is better attacking that awb.
really wondered what would be the general opinion in here after this half. i am not surprised but what the hell do people think how football works? west ham with 10 men behind the ball is not easy to play against. we had all of the ball and 2-3 good chances with smooth interplay and could and maybe should have scored already (rashys header should have been at least on goal, greenwoods shot was superbly saved).
Totally agree. Confident WH won’t keep this defensive concentration as they tire.I think we’ve been pretty good. Completely locking them in their half, something the likes of City, Leicester and Spurs haven’t been able to do this season. Passing is crisp and there are some visible patterns of play, aside from when it gets to AWB. Chance conversion has been an issue as usual though. Rashford missed a sitter and Mason was extremely unlucky. Keeper pulled off a genuinely amazing save to deny him. West Ham have come for a 0-0, no doubt about that. 5 defenders and 3 holding midfielders
Need to take a chance in the 2nd half and get the opening goal. We should be fine for the rest of the game if we do so. Mason looking sharp, definitely MOTM so far, hope he (or anyone in red today!) scores.
Cause hail our great manager
It's amazing what a through ball can doHe really doesn't. Neither him or McTominay are good enough with the ball. So often look panicked and choose the easy way out.
Level above that. Wolves don't play all bar 1 forward in defence for a full half and make an effort to create they own chances.West Ham have been Wolves levels of negative.
Switch out haaland for greenwood and I promise we are still 0-0 at halftime. The negative effect of James and AWB playing on the same wing is too strong. James being rightfooted also doesn't help with AWBs regular overlaps when greenwood is there.Ole has done his job in getting the team proactively pressing but the quality isn't there. I feel we are more than just a Haaland away from having a full fearful attack.
And headingHe'd never, his positioning and awareness isn't good enough.
You have to start wide then play it into the box. Going straight from the centre to his feet and he’ll just get mown over like last time.We need to get the ball to Greenwood in and around the box.
We are looking for shaw a lot, Maguire and Lindelof are trying to draw the play out to the right hand side, shifting there defence and then passing it to shaw in more space.
We need to do this more often.
I've been saying this for at least three years! United DNA - the one Ole is supposed to understand - has wingers at its very heart (if DNA has a heart!)And this half showed everyone where our problem lies:
We don't have wingers who take on full backs and get to the defensive line and cross from there.
We bring on Amad and Westham start attacking.Would put Amad on for James at some point. Loads of possession, a set defence... suits him more than James.
But it's still our main problemWho would they be crossing to? When we have it wide, and we've had it wide a lot, there's rarely a target in the box. Greenwood's not going to be winning it against those central defenders, nor is Dan James. It's Marcus or bust.
Bruno Fernandes: 89% pass accuracy, 3 Key Passes, 2 Big Chances created, 100% dribbles completed, 1 tackle, 1 interception, 8 ball recoveries.
Rashford and Greenwood (who has been very good otherwise) have combined for 0 tackles, 0 interceptions. Shockingly, Rashford has 0 (ZERO) pressures and 0 ball recoveries on top of that - which is almost hard to do.
Our 'press' is so disorganised. It's literally Bruno doing it by himself, with flashes of Dan James. In matches like this, high pressing is exactly how City put drop-back teams to the sword.
there were times we attacked and we had one player in the box. it's painful and embarrassing. but, heh, give Ole the new contract...You have to start wide then play it into the box. Going straight from the centre to his feet and he’ll just get mown over like last time.
Bruno and mctominay need to be getting into the box more often too.
And heading
Significantly less than when he innocuously misplace a pass, that's for certain. It didn't go unnoticed. He was complimented here.
He doesn't play pass through the lines often enough though
Yup. We need a right wing, and the midfield duo behind Fred are never balanced with what we have. I keep saying striker might sort itself out with Greenwood, but the right wing and the midfield duo lacking creativity and control will always be an issue (particularly if we sell Pogba). If we keep Pogba, then we need a DM to balance out the creativity in there now. Either way, any manager would look at us and focus on the right wing and midfield.Ole has done his job in getting the team proactively pressing but the quality isn't there. I feel we are more than just a Haaland away from having a full fearful attack.
This is a recurring problem with our press. It’s extremely inconsistent, in my opinion.Bruno Fernandes: 89% pass accuracy, 3 Key Passes, 2 Big Chances created, 100% dribbles completed, 1 tackle, 1 interception, 8 ball recoveries.
Rashford and Greenwood (who has been very good otherwise) have combined for 0 tackles, 0 interceptions. Shockingly, Rashford has 0 (ZERO) pressures and 0 ball recoveries on top of that - which is almost hard to do.

no we were whole bad!I thought we weren’t half bad in the first half.
He's the only player on our front line that constantly puts a shift in and doesn't take minutes off. It will be interesting to see how much ground he covers by the end of the season.Bruno Fernandes: 89% pass accuracy, 3 Key Passes, 2 Big Chances created, 100% dribbles completed, 1 tackle, 1 interception, 8 ball recoveries.

Yup. They were always going to be difficult to break. We should have scored 1 or 2 that half. Hardly horrendous.Wait where’s the moaning coming from today? We’ve been pretty good! We just need to score first.
Does make you wander how fit Rashford is, had a really poor first halfBruno Fernandes: 89% pass accuracy, 3 Key Passes, 2 Big Chances created, 100% dribbles completed, 1 tackle, 1 interception, 8 ball recoveries.
