Standard game against West Brom really. Enjoyed the first half though think we are doing well enough created a few chances.

Little more pace second half and should get a goal or two. Looks like Herrera will come on for Bastian which should help.

I knew this game was going to be boring. And it is. Not entirely our fault but we clearly lack the ability to break them down purely through LVG tactical insight. We're going to have to risk a counter punch and put more forward if we want the points.

I still think we should have figured out in one of the hundreds of times this happens how to deal with it.

We haven't played poorly but when we play quick and press high they panic, yet we do that very rarely

There's not really any magic secret to breaking down parked defences. It often comes down to a bit of inspiration from a player or just brute forcing it and waiting for something to eventually get through. If you have Messi, Aguero, Lewandowski or the likes then you're going to be able to do it better. We just lack a bit of quality up there.

Darmian/Shaw and a couple of electric wingers and we'd have a great side. Unfortunately, that's not going to happen today.

Would be funny if we just started letting west brom have the ball. They'd have no idea what to do with it.

Pulis is such a dire manager, feel bad for west brom fans. Who cares if you stay in the prem playing this crap, I'd rather have fun in the championship.

That could just as easily be said about us.

Not sure about this inverted wingers in games like this. But if needed, put Young on left (or Memphis). Push Lingard onto right where he plays better. Add Herrera for Basti (or carrick). Simple things

It's very obvious that the only 'real' threat that we have is Martial.

See, this isn't true. Schweinsteiger in particular has played much of the game on the 18 yard box. He's moved forward plenty. Carrick then mops up behind him.

It's an easy criticism to make given the age of our midfield but I'm not sure they're doing anything wrong.

Schweini has been pressing up, but he isn't making those runs into the box. We've seen a few times when the ball is put in, that there is no one apart from from Rooney to attack it, Schweini is a few yards outside the box. Someone like Herrera would cover those vital yards and take his shots.

Hope Memphis/Pereira come on at some point in the second half. Players who actually take on their fullbacks and can put in a good cross.

I know we are playing with "makeshift" fullbacks but hopefully LVG allows them to take more risks and get some overlaps going. Its the only way we are going to break them down. Or at least cause problems.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but it's time to buy Lukaku. Most improved striker in the world since last year. 45 million pounds bargain. He'd be handy in this match.

I personally don't think we played too badly first half. West Brom have come to snatch a point and we controlled the game. We are just lacking a bit of movement and luck in the final third. Martial and Mata had clear chances and should have done better. Score the first goal and West Broms plan A is up in smoke.

Really? Bullied by Martial and completely at fault for the Mata chance.
Fair point, but he had some great decisive moments as well. Cracking tackle against Lingard and some good headers at both ends on the pitch

I miss SAF, also I hope we actually get an actual World class manager fit to be managing a club of our size, first Moyes, now LVG( who to be honest when SAF retired was nowhere close to anyones list as a successor)

I'd like to see more urgency in our play in this half.

He's only played there when we had already moved up there and were passing it about horizontally. That's not going to create any openings. There were plenty of times when we only had a single player between those two West Brom defensive lines, usually Martial or Rooney.

But Lewandowski often still requires service, he won't skin players constantly like the other 2. I think we do better in these games when we pass quicker and run at them, we do that rarely and it allows West Brom to get in shape a lot easier. Also if it is a case of lack of quality then after all the money he has spent/had over a year to assess things, then there is only one person to blame.

Rooney... should have done better to put that ball ahead for Mata when that WBA player messed it up.

This Evans guy seems quite good, maybe we should try to buy him in january?
