Equally, if we win today, it doesn't mean we're going to win the league.

Right, but imagine what it would mean to the team if they win the first three or four matches. Their self confidence would be over the moon. It would be like Sir Alex is back in regard of self confidence and nimbus.

I agree. But no-one's opinion on here is going to affect that, and the chances of this happening are slim. Even if we win the first 5 games handsomely, it doesn't mean we're going to win the league.

But it does mean we are in a better position to win the league.

I'm sure Romero was on the video that United tweeted yesterday to introduce players that had a new number. He was the first one.

Was i reference to Valdes. He's an under 21 player now & has no squad number.

Memphis would make a feast out of most fullbacks in the premier league with his strength alone. Come on van Gaal, play him where you know he will perform!

Don't know if that's good news or bad news. If it's true, I hope it wasn't forced by an injury to Carrick or Schneiderlin.

Do I change my team? hmmmmm.

Was going to edit my line up but for some reason I already put him in.

I could handle with Carrick if Herrera is there too.

But then that means no starter for Schneiderlin.
We all could, but he won't will he? I know, I'll play someone who I said is not properly fit yet, has no PL experience over Morgan and Herrera who have loads of energy and have the experience. Sigh!

Really looking forward for today's game anyway. I went with,

    Johnstone
    Darmain Smalling Blind Shaw
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Mata Menphis Young
    Rooney

What do the tweets say? At work so cant read them :( Will be home before kick off though!

Could just be mind games from LvG and Bastian is ready to rock and roll!

How would Smalling and Jones take that? Does it mean he is going to pack the bench with defenders in case it goes wrong? It's Spurs, we took 4 points off them last season.
He said he has to think about the RCB spot, so I'm just adding 1 and 1 to get 3! It's worth a sneaky bet but I don't want it to actually happen

@Tasberry the lineup predictions also reflect that we don't trust LVG much to show off all his cards to his opponents in pre-season. A lot of posters here still think Herrera is going to start and Depay will be on the wings (even though pre-season indicated otherwise). Or for that matter, Blind will not play CB.

Will be interesting to see what happens today. Finally all the talking about what we are going to do this season stops, and the season actually begins. I for one am expecting a title challenge, even though we have some unanswered questions in the squad.

LvG is a manager who wants to be tricky, and outsmart his opponent, by surprising us with players bought, and lineups.
But(!) i would be extremely surprised if Herrera starts, considering how little he played during pre season.

Don't you think he actually outsmarts himself sometimes?

    Johnson

Same team for me, it seems like the obvious choice going by pre season, but we know LVG doesn't like to do the obvious.

    Johnstone
    Darmian Smalling Blind Shaw
    Carrick Schneiderlin
    Mata Memphis Young
    Rooney

    Subs: Jones, Herrera, Pereira
