Wilson, I believe, played as a winger against Tottenham in the U21's yesterday which prompted this.

I don't want to see Valencia play in that position and with Di Maria and Young likely out, we're short in that position.

Remember not so long ago when we approached Spurs at home or really almost all games this time of year with at least quiet confidence. LVG needs to make it clear that players are just playing for a top 4 spot but also their United futures

Im hearing rumours Young is out injured for the game? Can anyone confirm this?.

In that case we probably wont play with 2 wingers against Spurs. Back to 3-5-2 ? cant see Valencia/Januzaj getting the nod as wingers. If 3-5-2 means Mata and Herrera in there then Im all for it

    We're going to win 4-0

    ---------- DDG ----------

    Raf - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw

    ---- Herrera --- Fellaini ----

    Janujaz -- Mata -- Rooney

    ---------- Falcao ----------

Falcao would only start games from now to the end of the year If Rooney got injured.

    rafeal smalling rojo shaw
    Herrera carrick
    Junauzj Mata young
    Rooney

    Blind is looking tired.

    DDG
    Valencia Jones Smalling Rojo
    Carrick Blind
    Januzaj Mata Young
    Rooney
My line-up prediction, looks terribly slow but that's what I'm expecting to see.

What's this talk about Young being injured?

Talk Sport has been a nightmare since the defeat to Arsenal, United have been battered by everyone and many ex United players who have been guests this week.

The one constant throughout has been that everyone is puzzled by Mata's omission in recent games. As pointed out by many, Chelsea have Hazard, City have Silva, Liverpool have Coutinho, Arsenal have Cazorla............... All small players that control the game and usually in the number 10 position. Surely when lacking creativity and struggling to get the ball from midfield to the forwards, it is madness to leave one of your most creative players on the bench?

and play Fellaini in his place.....not sure about madness

more stupidity and lacking in imagination

I've thought, and I know others have mentioned, that he actually seems to be more of a scorer than an assist sort of player.

For me Herrera is the only guy whose been able to link attack and midfield successfully for us this season. Unfortunately he's too 'wild' for Van Gaal.

Yeah, says he has a knock. No return date in physioroom.com ... A big loss, in my book.

Yeah, I can see that. I love Mata and think United played some of their best football when Mata and Herrera were both on the pitch together. They linked up well with Rooney and Di Maria. I also think they bring the best out of Rvp too, and would do the same for Falcao. I'd like to see Herrera in the centre of midfield with Young and Di Maria on the wings and with Mata at 10 and Rooney up front and Blind or Carrick just ahead of the back 4.

I do think Herrera and Mata work well, I think Herrera's passing forces his teammates to attack because he's always playing them forward into space, and Mata is happy to oblige.

I think the main issue for many is his lack of pressing on defense, or defensive quality, which is especially problematic when pressing because one weak link breaks the chain. This was mentioned as a reason Mourinho let him go, his lack of defensive presence.

Look at what Arsenal did to us, playing two very attacking midfielders together in Ozil and Casorla. I don't really know Coquelin but he didn't seem to be some sort of Makalele sweeping everything to make up for the other two constantly bursting forward. People will say that a midfield 3 of Mata, Herrera and Blind (or Carrick) is too attacking, but obviously it can work if we can actually put together a performance and follow a game plan.

I don't think it's too attacking if as you say they follow a clear plan, but also if they only play one up top. It would make more sense and is the way the game has gone. You very rarely see the top teams with two out and out strikers up front anymore. I love the 4-4-2 of old, but it get's exposed far too easily now and LvG stuck with 2 up front for months, then when he finally relents he replaces one of the strikers with Fellaini, which is unfair on him.

It's frustrating and very confusing and of course it's leading to a big backlash from everyone at the moment. Ultimately I still have faith in LvG, I think the Summer window is so important, but it is bloody hard to remain faithful when he just seems to be randomly sticking pieces of a jigsaw together hoping he will get them to fit.

I think he would argue that his style is not compatible with most of the squad. He would say he had limited time to evaluate during the summer and to bring in new players. He would probably argue he could get the players he wanted in the winter window where teams are more reluctant to do business.

I think he has been looking for a creative solution to getting this squad to play a kind of football he's comfortable with. If we wanted a manager to come in and alter tactics to suit the squad, we picked the wrong guy.

So I guess we have to live with it and hope he transforms the squad this summer and it starts to click.

    Exactly, 100% spot on.

I have no problem being patient, and he is under pretty immense pressure (some brought on by himself) I just hope to see some improvement soon, it doesn't have to be perfect by any means, but if we are going to lose then at least lose with a fight and some dignity. We have some very tough games coming up and losing playing so poorly and playing such dull football will only make it far harder to take.

The squad line up is easy to guess for this bad boy:
    DDG
    CS - PJ - MR
    AV - AY
    MC - DB - AH
    AJ
    WR
    Back to the old 352
2-2 all day. Kane seems on good from and Spurs have some momentum. I don't think we will play well after Mondays defeat.

If van Gaal is stupid enough to play Valencia at RB we deserve all we get, Im at the point of not caring any more.

Surely this is a must win game? Lose it and it's going to be pretty difficult to see us find the momentum to finish inside the top four.

If Young is fit, I think one Januzaj/Mata/Herrera will start ahead of one of Carrick/Blind/Fellaini in a 451 or 4231. Highly doubt 2 from the first group (and certainly not all 3) will start.

If Young is out, I could see the 352 coming back with DDG / Smalling, Jones, Rojo / Valencia, Carrick, Herrera, Blind, Shaw / Fellaini, Rooney

    DDG
    Rafael Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Valencia Herrera Carrick Young
    Rooney
    Falcao/Wilson

    Yup, good old 4-4-2.

The feeling you get from this is match is that we won't win this tbh.

Each and every match from now on is a must-win game. The next 2 games will most probably decide LvG's fate at United.

    ------------De Gea-----------
    Rafael--Smalling-Rojo-Shaw
    --------Carrick-Herrera-----
    Young-------Mata-----Januzaj
    ------------Rooney------------

Please. Valencia for Rafael is likely but i don't think this is too bad. Herrera and Mata starting might be a bit much too ask mind, you know Falcao will come in for one of them. Possibly Fellaini for the other. Ah feck.

I think there's a chance Rafael plays at RB and Valencia in Young's position, with Young on the left (or Januzaj if Young is out). Blind will probably come in for Herrera.

    Don't think Falcao will start.

If Young is injured then it will be interesting to see what happens. With Di Maria out too you would assume Januzaj fills one spot, but who knows what van Gaal will do with the other wing. Might even change formation.

Does the score-predictor thing show the average score from all predictions made? If so, what does it currently predict for this match?

(I don't know these things because, not being a United fan, I don't use it.)

I know and it sucks hard, I feel like a shite supporter but I had the same feeling about the Arsenal game.

I just cannot see us winning this.
