Tactic is pass to Lingard/Januzaj or Ping it to Rooney/Hernandez. Need to utilise Mata more.

Seriously, on that goal I can't understand how Mata and Herrera can't communicate better. They played together all preseason long, this is not something that should be happening this way.

The defence seems incapable of getting the ball to the midfield. And even when they do Fletcher seems determined to give it away.

This is the problem at the moment.

Which is why perhaps Fellaini coming on as a no. 10 might be the answer for a more direct option.

Has the Gaalfaazer actually seen a premier league game before?

Okay start, I would say. Lingard was looking really good, hope the lad will be available again soon. We were not impressive, but looked much better than under Moyes. Now we need to go out there again, switch up a gear or two and turn this around. I think we can do that. We need to win this game!

I hope to see something like this in the second half.
    De Gea
    Smalling - Jones - Blackett - James
    Herrera - Fletcher
    Mata
    Januzaj - Rooney - Nani
That would mean having no subs left. Given our record of injuries I'd hold off lad

We look lethargic and pretty clueless so far. And we haven't created a single clear cut chance so far.

Hernandez kills us in this system, we haven't looked the same since we lost Welbeck in that role pre-season.

Completely agree. Even Januzaj changed the game against Valencia when he came on.

    I think people are overreacting.

    Here are the facts:

    - We've completely dominated, their goal came against the run of play.
    - We've limited Swansea to two attacks, they scored from one of them.
    - Yes the defence is looking a bit sloppy, but that is to be expected.
    - We've had some pretty good attacks, but we've been let down at the final moments, whether it be a poor touch from Rooney or some Swansea player flying into a tackle.
    - We have a couple of options off the bench.

I'll start worrying when we reach the 80th minute and the score is still the same. Until then I have belief that we can easily take control of the game from the 46th minute. All we need is that final bit of class in the last third.

dominated without doing a fecking thing.

they scored from one of them, that's all they need to do you mug, we've had tons of the ball and not scored...ergo they have done way fecking better.

oh okay then, let's just live with a defense that concedes to shit like fecking Swansea City so easily shall we, what is your ambition for the club btw? relegation battle?

and done feck all with them.

oh yes, the unfit & off form Nani might come on, Swansea must be shitting themselves at that prospect eh?

    delusional.

New season, same old shit. How can people expect us to finish 4th with a squad that's even worse than the one we had last season?! LvG isn't a miracle worker.
How the feck is our suquad worse than last year?

Our defense went more shit yes, but we got Shaw & Herrera........

Some of the comments here... Wait till we win after full time - everybody will be praising 3-5-2.

To be honest, I think this formation really doesn't work with Chicha, too much creative burden on the front three that he just can't shoulder. It disrupts the whole equilibrium for me.

No choice with the injuries though really. Mata/Rooney have do way more - it's similar to last year so far, getting in each other's way.

Now hopefully it will be crystal clear for LVG that we lack quality no matter what he tweaks formation.

Is anyone surprised? this team lacks quality big time. LVG is a quality manager, no doubt, but he's no miracle man. This squad needs two quality centre backs, a winger and one or two quality centre midfielders in order to challenge for the title. Simple as that.
While that is true, the center backs have not been the problem today. The goal they gave up came from lack of coverage from midfielders tracking runners.
The lack of attacking is more due to too many players lining up in the box and not enough quick passing and movement by the midfielders. Rooney and chicharito both want to be in the box all the time. Lack of quality central midfielders is definitely a problem.

What did people expect? This squad needed massive investment - doesn't matter if you've the collective genius of fergie, mourinho, van gaal all in charge, if the squad of players are average, there is only so much you can do.

I'm not pleasured yet, but it's a nice task to see if and how LvG can turn it around.

Reece James for Hernadez and go 4-2-3-1

Jones is making the wrong pass almost every time. He is obsessed with going down the touchline even when there is a clear pass available through the middle to Fletcher, Herrera or Mata. Hernandez has got to come off for Kagawa or Nani.

Maybe a defeat here is necessary for the Glazers and Woodward to wake up and realise the level of investment required. I wouldn't be surprised if we see bids thrown in for Vidal and Di Maria within an hour of full time if we don't turn this around.

Would like to see hernandez off and put kagawa up top with rooney. Then we might see a bit more intelligent play.
If not switch to 433 and get januzaj on the wing, hes looked sharp since he came on.

Worried seeing nani warm up would much rather kagawa come on and play as a winger or up front than Nani as being honest Nani hasn't proved he deserves a chance over the likes of Kagawa. He was arguably the worst player on the tour.

Other than that we have pressed well and and times kept good possession but our goal threat is really non existent. Mata and Rooney really need to inject themselves more into the game.

They all look frightened again. No zip, everyone scared to make a mistake.

Barca play a slow passing system but they have players with ability, players who stay calm under pressure, players who can one and two touch pass. We don't have the players to play a slow passing system imo. We need some REAL quality brought into this team.

Very dissapointing that our 2 bright spots in pre season, namely Fletch and Young, haven't been able to get that form into the game. Exactly what I feared.

We need to switch to 4-4-2 and start getting some more crosses in.
No we don't. 442 was our problem last year. Just because something doesn't work straight away you don't give up on it. They have planned for this

Hernandez needs to come off right now. He's been utterly useless. Put Januzaj up front and Reece James/Rafael at wing back.

We've been so poor but obviously shouldn't be behind. The main concern is the fact that we've barely created a chance. Swansea look happy to defend and attack us on the counter, and they look a lot more dangerous than us when we do go forward.

I think we'll draw or win in the end, and I hate to mention this on the day I thought it wouldn't even cross my mind, but it's just so staggering that we haven't invested in the team more by now. I honestly just can't get my head around it.
