    De Gea
    Rafael - Smalling - Rojo - Shaw
    Herrera - Blind
    Januzaj - Mata - Young
    Wilson
Time for some of these under performing 'names' to be dropped until their earn a place in the team again.

I realise that my team is make believe, be according to Van Gaal we were great against Swansea. We'll likely see something along the line of:

    De Gea
    Valencia - Smalling - Rojo - Young
Rooney - Blind - Di Maria
    Fellaini
    Van Persie - Falcao

We'll win this one, then go away and struggle against a Newcastle side that will be up for it.

As a Sunderland fan, just thought I'd add a different perspective to this thread. Think we'll go with something to try and hit you on the counter attack. Pantilimon, O'Shea, Brown, Cattermole, Johnson and Defoe pick themselves. We'll probably go back to Van Aanholt at left back and Revelliere reverting back to the right to help us going forward.

Wouldn't surprise me if we went with 5/3/2 with Johnson in the "10" role.

    Pantillimon
    Revelleire
    Vergini
    O'Shea
    Brown
    Van Aanholt
    Larsson
    Cattermole
    Johnson
    Wickham
    Defoe.

We'll probably look to defend compactly and hit you on the break with Van Aanholt, Larsson, Johnson, Wickham and Defoe the main threats.

Anyhow, I'm looking forward to it. Always a great day out in Manchester and I think we might nick a point as we always raise our game against the stronger sides. See you at OT. Keep The Faith!

Is Shaw not fit? Id have Young in for Januzaj and Shaw at LB

Been more impressed with Young playing there tbf. Shaw has better defensive capability but i'm hoping we'll be mostly on the front foot in this game.

Just don't get this Adnan the saviour bit. Young is far more effective this season and would be a better option. Seems to have the bit between his teeth.

Yeah I was really pondering whether to pick Adnan or Young. Ultimately I felt like it wouldn't matter too much as I think both will make an appearance, hopefully. Must say I favor Young considering their current form

    Would like see...

    DDG

    Rafael Smalling Rojo Shaw

    Herrera Blind

    Di Maria Mata Young

    Rooney
*Don't mind Jones instead of Smalling either but they are all support to Rojo now.

    What LVG will pick...

    DDG

    Valencia Jones Rojo Shaw

    Blind

    Herrera Di Maria

    Fellaaaani

    Rooney Falcao

Many were saying the same about Swansea.
The ones that did, I reckon haven't watched Swansea much. I've admiteddly only watched about 5 of their matches this season, but they play a nice, attractive brand of football. They're a good little team.

Newcastle on the other hand, have been dire this season. No sense of direction, no ideas, they are a bit shit.

I disagree. He is a creative player yes but he's disappeared in a lot of games. Creative players cannot afford to do that.

Can't think of any of our players who hasn't at times tbf, just stick him in behind Rooney with wingers either side and he'll create, and score plenty.

No win against Sunderland in the last 4 games*

*The League Cup semi-final 2nd leg was like a defeat

    Rodwell injured???

Yes, unfortunately he looks set to miss out again. He's getting niggling injuries where he ends up being 50-50 and Gus doesn't risk him. He's getting through the intense training sessions, it's when he tones it down the day or so before a match that the injuries flare up.

Young has been much better this season and because we have put ourselves in a position where it is neck and neck for 4th with a few teams it just doesn`t seem right to play Januzaj as he has struggled for form . I think it is difficult for Van Gaal to integrate someone like Januzaj into a struggling team whereas in the past we have seen Fergie bring kids into a team playing with confidence and swagger , just hope it doesn`t affect the boy and knock his developement .

    2 wingers, 2 full backs.
I wanna see McNair, Valencia, Shaw and Di Maria do the same wingplay duties that made Beckham,Neville,Evra,Ronaldo, Irwin,Giggs such big presences down the wings.
Play with speed and penetration, overlaps, 1-2's and movement. 1 touch passing and a pace that doesn't allow Sunderland to settle.
If Sunderland want to sit back, we moved the ball along quickly and shoot from outside the box, force errors by relentless 2-1 on situations.
The striker need to make runs, the midfielders need to thread balls along the ground to them, split defenses with a pass.

Either play 442; DDG - McNair Smalling Rojo Shaw - Valencia, Blind, Herrera, Di Maria - Rooney, Falcao
    or go 4-3-3 with:
DDG - McNair Smalling Rojo Shaw - Herrera Blind Mata - Valencia, Rooney, Di Maria.

Can't see anything different apart from:

    de Gea
    Valencia Jones Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Di Maria
    Fellaini
    Rooney RvP

Do you think after hauling him off the other day McNair will play? I wouldn't play him while Valencia and Rafael are available.

    I have a feeling.....

a feeling that has grown all week

I think this is the week we click....I'm not going to predict a team but I do think we will win 4-0 with Mata really stepping up

    put some money on

Yes, well that's how you percieve the situation. It's happened before and it's not been issue then.
I saw it as, McNair struggled to be the sole threat down the right side, so Valencia was brought and he too struggled to get in the due to the lack of service from the other midfielders to get wide and act as support or a decoy.
Both players struggled to get in the game and it wasn't a true representation of their contributions throughout the season in that role.

Rafael is available? I got the feeling he wasn't as he hasn't played 90 minutes in 4 months and hasn't started a game in 2 months.

Isn't RvP supposed to be injured? Physioroom have in as "injured without return date." I doubt he will be ready to play after seeing him on those crutches...

That would be a good thing if it meant playing Rooney as a lone striker and putting Mata in behind, but it will be Falcao.

I actually created a thread in the newbies two weeks ago presenting the notion that RvP injured could be a positive :smirk:

It seems as if Wilson is injured too. I hope Falcao will be benched (he really should be). Would love to see a 4-3-3/4-2-3-1 with Rooney as a lone striker.

    -----------De Gea

    --Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw

    ---------Herrera Blind

    -----Di Maria Mata Young

    ------------Rooney

My line up... but I never get it right.
I think being at home this team would have the pace and ability to win quite comfortably. I'm sure LvG has other ideas though.

Wilson only picked up a dead leg against us on Monday night. Surely that shouldn't rule him out?

    But what about us? :smirk:

    DDG
    Valencia Smalling Rojo Shaw
    Blind
    Herrera Di Maria Young
    Rooney
    Falcao

    --------Federer
    Rafael-Smalling-Rojo-Shaw
    ----Herrera----Blind
    Di Maria---Mata---Adnan
    ------ Rooney

I don't think anyone can be sure how we'll play no matter which names or formation we use... Something is wrong at the club and the players arent performing.

I remember when last match's starting 11 were announced it received near universal praise, but we all know how that worked out...
