I think that is why it is applied inconsistently. When you bring 'unnatural positions' in to it, it becomes a real minefield.
For me, I don't think there is such a thing as a natural position for an arm to be in when you play football. Freeze frame any tussle for the ball, and there's arms all over the place. They're usually out somewhat for balance, and I don't think players should be expected to go in to challenges with arms behind their back.
The rule is deliberate, but you really don't see a lot of clear deliberate handballs, but you do see a lot of handballs being penalised. It's a massive grey area, like offside, and obstruction, and all the other rules...Ugh this is so frustrating. Every time we get into a decent position someone has a brain fart.It is mikhi this mikhi that but at this moment rashford is a player who needs slaping and kicking

I think your assessments of Lingard and Mkhi (as frustrating as he is) are also overly harsh.Weakest front four I can remember at United.
